..An Australian man sped around a lap at Camden Airport this week and raced straight into the record books.
Glen Sutton hit a record 163 kilometres per hour — in a souped-up sofa.
His remarkable couch speed beat British Marek Turowsk's previous land-speed record of 148 km/h.
Watch the successful world-record attempt below:
The Australian couch, designed and built by Evolution Motorsport, was a leather two-seater, complete with coffee table holding a cup of coffee and bowl of fruit. A Suzuki GSX motorcycle engine powered the moving furniture.
"It's the oddest vehicle we've ever built," project leader Paul McKinnon said of the aerodynamically challenged couch.
"With race cars, you can use the aerodynamic body kit . . . but with the couch, it was a matter of just doing what we could. We tried to break the airflow with the coffee table."
The Herald Sun reports the stunt was part of a promotion series called "Add a Motor to It."
who in their right mind would wanna sit on a couch (meant for relaxing) and move at speeds of over 300km/h?! are these people running out of ideas for car designs so instead they make furniture into race cars? what is this donkey kong racing?
