I was at Grandview + Rupert trying to enter superstore from the "Trail Appliances Company's side" and i was waiting patiently at the intersection of Grandview + Rupert. i waited until it turned yellow and has seen cars stopping and i had made my turn. But some senior sped down the hill really fast and he managed to make it to me before i made my turn, and i hit him about 20 -25km/h on the side of his door.
When i was turning it was already a REALLY REALLY late yellow light, and he was really far away from the stop line @ the opposite street of mine, and when i was in the middle turning, he poped right in front of me and i managed to hit him. Before he had reached me, it had already been a red light, about 3 seconds later, we both collided. please give some suggestions, and ICBC tips thank you !
Get a witness..only way you'll win the case is if witness can prove the old man was in the intersection when the light turned red.
Otherwise max you'll get is 50 50 cos ur turning left and old man will argue he was crossing on yellow and it wasnt safe to stop.

Pretty much that.
Unless you get a witness, you're pretty much going to be the one at fault.

^100% at fault most likely also, not 50/50%.
Technically he's at fault but ICBC will most likely put you at fault. Sucks a lot man.
That's why when I turn left at yellow/reds I make sure that no car will gun it through. I don't give a shit if the people behind me are honking, I don't wanna get into an accident.

what if the witness gave the other person their phone number and not me the phone number ? Do you think witnesses will lie about things that aren't true ?

+1
The extra seconds to make sure that cars are stopped or stopping is worth it.
Hope ya find a witness

Like my mom said, never turn left until you are 100% sure or you will be at fault. It will not be 50/50 but instead 100%

Sounds like he/she will be a witness for the other guy.. Sucks a lot man, happened to my friend some months ago.
Edit: I'm no crash investigator or anything but it looks like you were still pretty early on your turn since you hit him on the side.

You have no way of knowing, but an impartial witness has no incentive to commit insurance fraud, especially when the other driver is in a far superior position. No communication should occur between any of the parties involved ideally either, everyone involved should strictly be speaking to icbc, allow them to communicate with the other driver and witness.

is it possible to look back at the video footage from this ?
Grandview / Rupert (http://vancouver.ca/engsvcs/streets/roadwork/grandview4.htm)
^Only law enforcement has access to that or anyone else that's authorized to do so IIRC
Correct me if I'm wrong

i've just given ICBC a call about the RED LIGHT TRAFFIC CAMERA they have, and good thing is that hey do have a red light camera, but the bad thing is they might have not caught the incident. Also the camera i think is just a SNAP SHOT camera, not a video recording camera.
Please was anyone there today and saw the incident ? This is really unfair for me, i really need your help. When i was about to approach the witness, two firefighters approached me for my information, and the witness left without giving me no information.

If they did indeed run the red light, there will be a snap shot of them.
If they didn't run red and the camera wasn't triggered, you are SOL.

the photo camera will take a pic of him running a red WHICH SHOULD be enough proof to put the blame on him

There are red light cameras in place at that intersection but not all red light cameras are activated. However, there should be continuous footage at that intersection and I hope ICBC will review the footage for your case. You also hope that there is storage for that data.

i thought the red light cameras were only on at time intervals.
Ive seen red light runners at various instances and the cameras not flash.

I'm looking for the WORST result that could happen.
The car is not under my name NOR is the insurance.
What is the process after it if it's claimed to be @ my fault ? thank you !

The process, ICBC investigates and issues the decision, you have the opportunity to appeal.
Worst case scenario, if your not listed as the principle driver on the insurance and the icbc investigation reveals you are the insurance would be voided. Need more information here to give you an accurate answer..

If you're not driving it more than 50% of the time then ICBC will cover you but the premiums will go up for the registered owner if you are found at fault.
Happened to me earlier this year (I was at fault). Was driving my dads van at the time. ICBC didn't do a big investigation, just warned us in the end about penalties and fines.

thank you guys very much for explaining all this to me, actually has calmed me down. Now I'm just thinking of the best possible things that already happened to me besides the car accident. for example... i am not dead or heavily injured, neither was the other party. Also the car i was using wasn't that damaged as well and it too was a really old car that my family had owned for years. Thinking back this incident, it not only gave me some experience in driving, and just finally realizing what type of drivers there are on the road to beware of, even if they're old or young, or different race. People drive differently and you must be prepared for everything that you aren't prepared for.
Again, thank you to everyone in this forum who has helped and explain to me, and give me an idea on this type of situation !!

you need a good witness b/c the person turning left is usually at fault in an accident

i actually have a witness but i don't know if he could actually change anything because all the odds are on me, and even if he saw it, i don't get to choose the last decision.

whoever the insurance is under, their premium will go up if ICBC decides you are at fault. If you dont want that to happen, you can opt to pay for the damages in full, then the premium wont go up. I think thats how it goes..
but from that picture, it looks pretty expensive..
It looks like the Hyundai Elantra Touring
