Yay... BC joins the ranks of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario for Family Day! My office has been observing that holiday since 2008. :)

In Ontario there is a stat for Family day.. However, there is no stat for remembrance day...
So does that mean BC has one more stat than Onterrible?

You know....this is cool and all. Everyone wants a long weekend (well, those it applies to). I dig it.

My problem isn't with the Family Day itself, it is with Christy Clark.

I feel that I am sitting in High School watch a school president debate. All these promises (both followed through and not) are just trying to butter us up. MTV during homeroom? YEAH!! Better food in the cafeteria? YEAH!!

All these silly little things, that in the grand scheme of things, don't mean shit. She said she would call an election after the HST referendum, but then when it doesn't go through we conveniently postpone it until next year when we have all forgotten about it. In the mean time, we get money thrown at families for a Family day to keep them happy, free quitting smoking items to keep the smokers happy, money towards special ed to keep teachers happy, etc...

Don't get me wrong...I dig it all. But what is fundamentally fucked in this province isn't addressed. Lowest paid population in Canada? B.C. Highest housing prices? B.C. We want to put another tax on gas to pay for more transit that most will never use and we are tolling almost every bridge to get into the city. What do WE get? Another day off...awesome.

Yeah, I get that she raised the min. wage....but to only $10? So now instead of no-name mac and cheese we can spring for Kraft? I feel like she is placating us with all this random shit, when at the end of the day another day off in 2013 means shit. She is under-minding us with silly little rewards like highschool presidents do.

Fail me if you want....give me the whole "you pay to live in the best province" bull shit, but it is true. I thought I was the only one that felt this way, but the 6pm news on Global has this "Generation How" thing on for the month, and it proves that I am not alone.

I want her to formulate a plan that actually works towards ratifying this dying province. But then again...how much work can really be done with your legislature only sits 24 times within 15 months.

Rant done.

you're talking about politicians. Politicians are all about themselves and their party supporters. All the average joes are just a bottomless ATM machines in their eyes.

Yeah i was watching that on Global as well. Ottawa went more than double the times we went (I think 87 times?), and we were 2nd last, only beating Prince Edward Island!

Don't this have to be offset by removing a stat day?

E.g. Quebec has Jean-Baptist on June 24 but no Quebec day on first monday of August. Maybe I am wrong...

And given some of the responses here, it looks like it worked. Yay...a day off. That will improve the province immensely.
