: Homeland (Showtime's new series)

Ch28

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeland_(TV_series)

Centers on Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, who returns home eight years after going missing in Iraq, and Carrie Anderson, a driven (and possibly unstable) CIA officer who suspects he might be plotting an attack on America.

Started watching it tonight because the lead character is played by Capt. Winters from Band of Brothers and I really enjoyed it!

Second episode aired the other night so I suggest you guys check it out. It's got one of highest ratings among all the new shows and the highest rated debut show for Showtime

Delish

I don't really understand the whole timeline and colors thing.

Carrie and Saul just pieced together a timeline of Abu Nazir's activities post 9/11. The colors just helped them organize things by time period. The yellow section of the timeline had very little activity, which Carrie said represented a time period where something must have happened in Nazir's life where he mourned and went on the down low. A few episodes ago we learned his son Issa died years ago in that American military strike (Brody found him and carried his body away). When Carrie called up Brody to find out what he knew about this time period of Nazir's life, he called up Estes to bust Carrie because he knew she was getting closer to finding out the truth

Saw that this won some Emmy's so I decided to check it out and I watched the pilot.

This show is terrible. Aside from the DEADLY hot chick from Firefly, and Captain Winters who is cool...the writing is awful and predictable.

It's writing like this that pisses me off. Taking me for an idiot.

- The OBVIOUS discomfort between the wife and the best friend...the camera makes no mistake to show you this in full disclosure. Cmon, I'm not a fucking child. Let's try it more subtle.

-Who the fuck opens a medicine cabinet in a stranger's home and helps themselves to an aspirin without asking?

-How did this crazy woman ever get into the CIA without anyone knowing this?

-She comes on to her "friend" of 35 years, the bearded dude? Come on. How fucking strung out is she? Who behaves like that in real life?

-Hot young mom from Firefly, to daughter: "Look, I know things have been tough between us, but let's get through this ok?" WOW. I'm SO GLAD this awkward teen/mom relationship has so clearly been revealed for me. I get it now. The weird "not really caring that I just found my daughter with a boy and a bong" scene at the beginning didn't establish this at all...

- Claire Danes' character is one tone the whole time: Whiny angry bitch on the verge of tears. Except when she's whoring herself out in the bar, then she's "sexy and spontaneous" Her character is like a female House; crazy but really smart. Been done before.

Upside: It's on Showcase, so there's swearing, violence and boobies. But GODDAMMIT, it pains me that people can't write or direct this kind of thing better.

Don't get sucked into the idiocy of this show.

You're judging the entire series to be idiotic because you watched the pilot? Must make you a real expert. This show is worth watching, and obviously if they are getting some acclaim they are doing something right.

This series is far from idiotic.

That was some stupid shit Carrie pulled going back into the apartment. Yea, it got them that flash card, but come on, you almost got the entire team captured.

Reckless. I was hoping the men chasing her would either capture or kill her.

Brodie and his damn text. I wanted to see baboon nazir's brains splattered everywhere.

I'm not interested in seeing this series go 10 seasons. Every opportunity Brodie doesn't blow himself up or his dumb cover, or someone else finding out about him, or baboon's self-righteous ass getting killed, it disappoints me. Part of me can appreciate the series and its entertainment value, but the other part of me thinks "die terrorists" and "kill that bastard traitor".

It was idiotic of her to rush in there. But what's more curious is how shortsighted the agency was for not securing that house after the hit was done. Red1 should've been rerouted, for a secondary objective, (after the capture order was cancelled) to secure the house and obtain intel.

I think Red 1 was surrounded by the militia. I guess they couldn't safely escape undetected.

When Carrie was having her panic attack or whatever during Saul's call with HQ, I was basically thinking, "Not this shit again. What? WTF is wrong with you now, Carrie? Why can't you be normal?". I understand that they wrote her character as bi-polar for a reason, probably to make her extra interesting to the viewers, but some of that stuff she goes through is so tiring to watch.

I would be a horrible social worker.

Listen, the pilot episode of a series can be full of flaws, trust me I understand, lower budget, shot months before the series etc. But the characters are all there, the story and the tone is set.

I've seen enough. Just because they are getting acclaim, that doesn't mean shit. Big Bang Theory gets plenty of acclaim and it's quite possibly the worst, least funny show I've ever seen in my life.

Homeland is still IDIOTIC.

Agreed, Carrie is so fucking annoying when she starts crying and feeling sorry for herself. Interesting to watch when she's working but elsewise, annoying.

I definitely wasn't expecting them to find the video clip of Brody this early and it will be really interesting to see where it goes from here.

I'm thinking there will still be a terrorist attack carried out in the finale that will setup season 3. It'll likely have to tie Brody in somehow with questions about him being suspected in taking part or if he knew anything, they'll need to keep Brody tied into the main plot for season 3 since Nazir is now dead. Also that suicide bomber tape of Brody is still floating around, I think we haven't seen the last of that yet as a focal point.

They're making FBI SWAT teams look like crap. Not living up to the 'T' in SWAT, when you go in alone to clear a dark, hidden room without alerting your team. That guy got taken down way too easily.

I'm so disappointed they couldn't take Nazir alive. I really wanted to see him get tortured. Maybe i'm spoiled by Jack Bauer's operating methods. Part of me just wants to see an asshole like that feel some pain.

Something that's been bothering me about Dana, besides her cunt attitude and her fondness for limp guys, is A) her mop hair, and B) those ugly shoes she wears. I knows it sounds crazy, I don't get it either, but seriously, those are some ugly ass shoes. Reminds me of Eeyore's ears. It's like the latest in hobo-style footwear.

LOL, I thought I might be the only one noticing her hideous shoes and getting pissed off about them everytime. It's weird cause it's just shoes but it's one of many thing about her character that irk me the wrong way.

And yeah, who never saw that coming with the SWAT member going in alone without radioing his team, made him look inept and incapable, they did him wrong.

+1, Just because we hate her doesn't mean she should be gone (although I'm always calling for her head) It just means her character is doing exactly what the writers want her to do, they are pulling those emotions from the audience.

not sure if it's just because i missed it or major plot holes from last few episodes

1. How did Nazir knew Walden had a pacemaker? Even if he had a mole that told him all this, how did he know where to find the serial number?

2. How did Saul knew Quinn was up to assassinate Brody? Sure he knew he had another agenda with David Estes but how was he able to pinpoint that it was an assassination and the target was Brody?

mb_
12-16-2012, 06:37 PM
Can't really answer your first question cause there's a lot of ways that he could have known.

But for your second question, when Virgil followed Quinn to meet up with Dar Adal, Saul confronted him and asked who he is and he said "he's one of mine". He then asked Estes what he's doing there and he told him "he's here to kill terrorists" and that he wasn't really an analyst.

this entire show's been very meh..except for the finales. Brody going into the bunker with the vest was great...and this ending was also pretty good.

last scene was pretty sad with all the body bags...maybe because of the recent school shooting tragedy just this past weekend. Hmm I thought it was out of place that Saul was chanting arabic prayers

not sure if it's just because i missed it or major plot holes from last few episodes

1. How did Nazir knew Walden had a pacemaker? Even if he had a mole that told him all this, how did he know where to find the serial number?

In the episode, Brody actually asks Nazir, "How the fuck do you know all this" and Nazir replies, "New York Times, believe it or not."

Hmm I thought it was out of place that Saul was chanting arabic prayers

It's not arabic, its hebrew.

I was actually hoping for something a little bit more dramatic.

It'd be great if you can see suicide bombers blowing themselves up in front of public places then David gets interrupted by an agent advising him of what happened, then the bomb goes off.

So who thinks Saul planned everything?

He's got a convenient alibi, gets the head CIA position, gets Carrie and Brodie separated, and let's not forget that maniacal smile at the end.

And aren't we still looking for a mole that has intimate knowledge of Season 2's major operation?

Thinking into it too much? God damnit now the 8 month wait. GoT can't come soon enough! :okay:

The only thing that makes me not think that is how much Saul obviously cares for and loves (in a non-romantic way) Carrie. He knew she would be there and was clearly distraught she couldn't be found after the incident.

It DOES make sense because Saul has an alibi as said before, was desperately trying to keep Brody alive (to frame him?), etc. From Saul's character throughout the seasons though, this wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. What would be the motive behind it?

Nothing to watch now, any suggestions? :okay:

By that thinking, Saul did everything he could to get Carrie away from Brody, who theoretically can harm her by virtue of what he was deemed to be (a terrorist). That's most likely why he tried to spin her being station chief (playing her desire to be the best officer the CIA has had). Even if she had been there, it would've been easy to get her out with a phone call, or an escort, or some other means.

And I thought the same thing about Saul's character in the show (and his ability to pull something this bad off). He's done everything "right". But thinking back, he did everything with Carrie in mind. Perhaps a Saul "turn" is the real twist we were all waiting for this season.

As for new shows, I tried picking up Boardwalk Empire, and it's not my cup of tea. I think I'll just wait it out for TWD, and it's "only" 4 months until GoT :woot2:

LOL my thinking at the time really had no logic to it. It was just a gut feeling or perhaps a feeling of a twist I would like to see.

New shows, well this is usually the time of year where I start on shows that are older now but have yet to watch. I'll just fire some random ones off and if you haven't watched them it's a good time to start with so many shows having ended or going into xmas break.

Sons of Anarchy - Biker gangs, need I say more? 5 seasons so far I believe

Nikita - This show imo is actually surprisingly decent. With the main star being Maggie Q I know this can be a turn off for some or a turn on for some lol. I woldn't peg this show as EPIC but it's solid enough to watch. Currently on Season 3

Spartacus - Tits, violence, and a decent story line. What else can you ask for? 3 seasons so far with a 4th and final starting in a January I think.

OZ - Old HBO show and imo one of the best shows of all time. 6 seasons

Side note. Here's 6 things you need to know about the Season 2 finale. Also some potential spoilers for Season 3

Just finished season 2. Wow. I enjoyed season 2 MUCH More than season 1.

When I started season 1 I was afraid of them dragging on the whole "they get close to proving he's a terrorist but he finds a way out at the last second" type deal. Which would have been predictable and boring. So I'm glad they stopped all that early in season 2.

Season 1's only great scene was the finale. Season 2 was much more suspenseful.

I know they can't drag on the story about Brody for too long or it'll get stale but he was the main reason I started watching this show. The guy is a great actor and I enjoyed every tense scene with him in it. Season 3 will have a totally different look with him out of the picture.

In terms of shows to watch. Season 3 of Shameless is coming up soon!

I hate Dana so much. She is a constant disappointment.

One scene that comes to mind is, after she gets brought home by the FBI, she's walking to her room, and she turns to her mom and goes "I'm fine".

Bitch, fuck you. You scared the shit out of your mom running off like that you stupid bitch. Fuck if you're fine or not.

God she is such a stupid stupid bitch. Just a fucking stupid bitch.

Plus she just up and decides to leave home. Way to give your poor family a heads up. This part I blame partly on the writers, cause I don't believe any parent in their right mind who just got their kid back, would allow them to run off again without knowing who she's going with or where she's going. That aside, her mom asks her to "wait", and she can't even do that. Nope, she just walks out the door. She can't wait the 5 secs after dropping a bombshell on her own family and have the decency to consider anybody else's thoughts or feeling except her own.

Dana's character is portrayed very well. When you guys rage about her, it is what the writers wanted. Troubled teenager going through a tough time in life would run away from home to get away especially from what Brody had done to them.

JACKED
11-17-2013, 01:13 AM
I would have to disagree... I feel like Skylar (Breaking Bad) or Betty (Mad Men) rage is good and what the writers wanted. Dana rage seems like it has more to do with the fact that her plot line is just kind of pointless... Yeah it shows pain caused by Brody and teenage angst but to spend all that time on her plot line only to have it end by running away and getting picked up by the police? People were expecting it to connect to Brody or some bigger picture somehow with that much air time. It was just a dull ride... Could have shown her pain in a more relevant way or in half the time.

I vaguely remember the first and second season of 24 with Elisha Cuthbert. Difference being, a lot of stuff that happened was unrealistic, so I never got sucked in as much as Homeland. Plus Elisha Cuthbert is a thousand times more attractive than Dana.

I was a huge fan of Homeland up until this season. While Carrie has been beyond annoying with her face...those eyes...I have this incessant need to see the story through haha. I must know what happens!

The past few episodes have picked up the pace but even then, the wait time between seasons only ups the ante. I expect BETTER from the time of the previous finale to the new season's premier.

^ There's a SOA discussion thread. Lots of that type of question being asked there. It's been going downhill since s4/5.

Personally I thought this season was an improvement over S2. Pretty much until the last 2/3 episodes of S2, I was up and ready to drop the show from my rotation. As for Carrie this season, I thought it more funny than annoying seeing her full-blown manic again. You have to remember that she's bipolar who ISN'T on her meds because of her current family-planning situation. Dana is not officially diagnosed with anything (except maybe stupidity), so her character is right up there with Elisha Cuthbert on 24 in terms of the " "TV Characters that Drive You Nuts" hall of fame.

I haven't seen the finale yet (didn't know it was released early). I suppose I'll lower my expectations, which were quite high after last week's episode.

Season 4 tomorrow. season 3 is almost a complete blur for me... which is probably a good thing. let's hope season 4 can get things back on track but I just dont know where things can go from here.

I heard the show gets good again.. I think if anything they were weighed down by the Brody storyline. Should be worth checking out at least

She's the biggest reason I still watch the show now :toot:

Though the storyline is definitely getting better than the last season that's for sure.

Edit: based on her wiki, she's a smarty-pants and 34. I'm not sure how the latter is possible, but the fact that she's a smart woman just ups my want for her.

Good thing Carrie left Quinn at the embassy, because Quinn gets some screen time to fuck shit up. He can finally be the guy who kills bad guys, because the last season and a half he's been neutered as some baby wah wah lol

Is season 4 really worth powering through?

just finished season 3, and brody was the only thing keeping me entertained and not overly critical of the crying mess Carrie is every fucking episode.

Seriously, she annoys me every episode. is she still annoying as fuck in season 4? cause brody isnt around to take the attention off her

Season 3 sucked. Season 4 is way better with you know who out of the way.

The only complaint in season 4 is that they're making Quinn a total puss. That's about to change though. Seriously the last 3-4 episodes I've been on the edge of my sofa and when that stupid piano plays I feel like punching a pillow in anger that it's over.

The timing seems odd to put that sort of cliffhanger. With the season finale next week, it seems like it's just another thing added to "tie-up". While I can say "I didn't see that coming", it seems like it was almost a reach with respect to twists.

Makes me wonder what the finale will be like.

Anyone else up to date with this season? Last episode this Sunday.

I think this is the second best season of be show. Season 1 being the best. Last weeks episode was fantastic. In particular the last 15 minutes was gripping.
It really shows how when you build up a storyline, how that translates to that emotional connection with the story.

I have also found this season to be the most relevant to current events. It sadly mimics a lot about Paris, and the reality of Syria right now.

Sucks how they made Astrid such an important person in Quinn's life, only to see her die. I was so happy to see she didn't leave when Quinn came back to the house, but to see her run to the car, dry fire the gun, the look of surprise, and getting killed afterwards..rollercoaster of emotions.
