try taking battery out, then holding the power button for a minute while battery is out. put battery back in and try again.

Sounds like it could be a motherboard issue, or hopefully just a battery or charger problem.

dv6000 oh man its been awhile, NOTORIOUS for being full of problems

first try booting it without the battery, but most likely its the motherboard mine had the same issue and i had to send it in for a new motherboard, i think hp even issued a recall for it

there's another problem with them, i cant remember exactly what but users found its a ma ufacturing issue and HP refused to issue a recall; just like the motherboard issue it took a long while for HP to cave

HP Laptops

This is coming from an HP user as well (dv6700), mine likes to die/crash on me multiple times, but not to your extreme yet. How old is your laptop?

As others have said, your motherboard is probably fried, good luck though!

Just take it outside and leave it on the curb for the weekly garbage collection. I haven't met an HP laptop that I liked. My guess is the motherboard. Probably capacitor plague.

Those older HP laptops (dv2000, dv6000, dv9000) are notorious for those kinds of problems. Take it outside and shoot it ...

ah yeah HP did issue a recall for the dv6000 motherboard

but the recall has expired supposedly (it was a 24month recall)

so looks like u're sol you can try contacting HP to see if they'll fix it anyway but HP forums is filled with people who didnt get theirs fixed because it was out of the recall period

there was a recall for the battery pack as well, that got extended to 2011 but expired @ the end of May

and your lappy may be using an Nvidia chip that was part of some lawsuit settlement (faulty nvidia chip + hp using crappy thermal tape) http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/ unfortunately, as it would seem, the period for getting a repair/claim through this settlement has also ended earlier this year (march for claim and july to submit)

time for a new laptop :/

Buddy had a HP, if you move the cursor over the battery icon at the bottom, it says "Please buy new battery"

My gf and my sister's HP laptop both crapped out on them not too long ago. HP laptops seem to have overheating problems too. Don't buy HP laptops!

Your motherboard is dead.
Had this dv6000 as well, battery hasn't charged to 100%, max I think was 80%.
Sound stopped working before that from the external speakers.
Then one day I turned it on, removed battery etc. Turns on but no screen.

Called HP and they wanted me to pay $324 for motherboard and labour.

So since I have the same problem I am guessing that to replace the MB is not worth it?
Better to buy a new laptop?
I have the HP DV7 and love it

I've had a few HP Elitebooks through work and they've been amazing.. I would say on par with the Lenovo ThinkPads.

OP: Try replacing the tiny battery on board? The one that powers the clock? If not, buy a 2.5" usb 2.0 enclosure and backup all the data from the HDD and trash the bloody thing

The HP Elitebooks are in a different class than the DV series. I used several Elitebooks at work and they are awesome. Never had a problem with them. The HP DV series on the other hand are just full of problems.
