Since this discussion always ends in babies crying and mods never really settling this debate, I thought I'd take this time to share my thoughts on the matter.

It's nice to know that you're human and you can make mistakes and learn from them, isn't it?

ignorance is bliss, but arrogance is not an admirable trait. I'm not sure if anyone agrees with me, but we're not living in god damn North Korea, and everyone is entitled to their opinions, whether it be good or bad.

I'm overlooking 13 deparment heads looking over 400 staff at Diamond Bay Resort, and I promote fairness to everyone. If I go into a meeting late, I get penalized even harsher than the HODs, especially because I'm the one holding the meeting. If I'm just gonna make myself invincible out here, sure I'll have the staff fear me, but that's not what I want. I want whole-hearted respect.

But maybe you don't care about how people view you, which right now, is a tyrant that preys on anyone that doesn't agree with you.

So why not shift that attitude to a more positive note. It's a paradox, isn't it? How you seem to not care about us peasant RS'ers perspective of you being a dick, yet you care SOOOOO much about some measly fails.

I just think everyone will have so much more respect for you (our leader?) if you showed us that you're not perfect, that you can bleed when you make mistakes, like EVERYONE else.

If all else fails, just take away that god forsaken FAIL button altogether..

You're an informative and cool guy that contributes a lot to revscene, a helluva lot. I happen to agree with you most of the time, but not 100% of the time. Everyone has their differences, and that's the best part of life, all the differences. It'd be super fucking boring if everyone was the exact same.

I appreciate SkinnyPup for maintaining the site and making improvements so that it provides a better end-user experience for the rest of us - this I have no questions about and I see the value of having someone like him around. He obviously cares about keeping his duty and fulfilling the responsibilities on the technical side of things, and he does them well. However, I don't like him as a person, don't like his arrogance and I-know-better-than-you attitude, don't like how he can't admit it when he's wrong, and don't like how he puts himself on a pedestal all the time.

But, just like in real life with people I don't like, I choose to ignore him and don't participate in his conversations and pointless arguments, because at the end of the day, he's not in my life (in person), he doesn't affect my mood and he can be shut off as easily as walking away from his posts and threads.

My conclusion on this this - he's an ass and he will always be one, but who cares, he's not worth my time and energy to respond to anyway. At the end of the day he's just another guy on the internet that hides behind 1s and 0s. He's just a name, an avatar, and an interactive bot machine that responds with random rhetoric.

In the mean time... the more we react to his antics, the more he feels empowered. So gents, just ignore him - he's not worth the time and energy. There are better things in life to get worked up about and this ain't one of them.

Lol I've started countless threads on topic similar to his over the course of the past eight years. Lol. Mods dont change. They get replaced... eventually by, hopefully, less egotistical and more of a community serving mind set. And by that I mean they see themselves as equal to the user.

I believe mods should receive fails. I have no problem being held accountable for any poor choices that I make and to be called out on things I do. I encourage members to PM me if they feel I've said something out of line, and have received PMs in the past for my conduct.

Remember that moderators are real people too. We have good days, bad days, and we can make mistakes. We do this job without pay and we often have to make decisions that are unpopular.

Skinny does a great deal for this site and yes, he has made posts that have been unpopular in the past, but in all what does it really matter?
If you're walking off of the skytrain and you bump into a guy who doesn't say "Oh, I'm sorry" do you chase him to the office and make him apologize? If you see the guy the next day, and the day after that do you hold a grudge and let it brew? No. You just move on.

I don't think that we're immune to criticism.

I've had plenty of users message me on why I handed out points. I have answered each and every single one of the PMs until the other user stopped responding. I wanted to resolve any issues that the user has and I tried my utmost to do this.

It is my belief that the vast majority (if not all) of the mods do this as well. We're not here to be assholes and do the whole "well I own this site" thing but sometimes, users just have the fucking dumbest ideas.

That and some of you assholes take RS for granted and pull the whole "well without users, there wouldn't be an RS". I mean, honestly, how fucking dumb can someone get?

If you have an issue with a mod, why not bring it up to him/her? Send them a PM, I know most of the mods here IRL and they're good people. If that doesn't work, just bring it up to the mod in charge of them.

So this reaction is pretty much the reason I kept fails disabled for mods including myself. Because instead of a huge 8 page gong show popping up after a year, it would be like this for pretty much every controversial post made. It would probably render the forum unusable.

I guess I have to admit that I used to be extremely rude on this forum (and others). I think it all just came out because of the anonyminity of the internet. For the same reason people say they don't care if someone talks shit about them on the internet, and can let "trolls" roll off their back. Nobody cares, so what the fuck, right?

Except I have found, and this thread is the perfect example, that people DO care. People DO care that they get 'failed' and they are really happy when they get 'thanked'. I figured that out eventually.

So I have tried to act more like how I might if someone was right in front of me. However, that only really works if all 'sides' have the same attitude. So while I was trying to act 'normal' to people, it never went the other way because of how I used to act. Whenever I disagreed with someone about something, even in a polite manner, there would be a huge backlash and threads would become derailed. Whenever I shared an opinion that was contrary to others, people immediately got REALLY upset, and the thread would become derailed. Whenever I would make a single joking troll remark (like a :seriously: face when someone asked a dumb question) people would pile on and get all mad, and another thread would derail. So I found that acting 'normal' on the internet doesn't work either, unless it goes both ways.

Creating controversy is good n' all, but everyone has to be willing to accept differences, conflicts and most importantly, you cannot be 100% correct on every issue/topic. So this reaction is pretty much the reason I kept fails disabled for mods including myself. Because instead of a huge 8 page gong show popping up after a year, it would be like this for pretty much every controversial post made. It would probably render the forum unusable.

I guess I have to admit that I used to be extremely rude on this forum (and others). I think it all just came out because of the anonyminity of the internet. For the same reason people say they don't care if someone talks shit about them on the internet, and can let "trolls" roll off their back. Nobody cares, so what the fuck, right?

Except I have found, and this thread is the perfect example, that people DO care. People DO care that they get 'failed' and they are really happy when they get 'thanked'. I figured that out eventually.

So I have tried to act more like how I might if someone was right in front of me. However, that only really works if all 'sides' have the same attitude. So while I was trying to act 'normal' to people, it never went the other way because of how I used to act. Whenever I disagreed with someone about something, even in a polite manner, there would be a huge backlash and threads would become derailed. Whenever I shared an opinion that was contrary to others, people immediately got REALLY upset, and the thread would become derailed. Whenever I would make a single joking troll remark (like a :seriously: face when someone asked a dumb question) people would pile on and get all mad, and another thread would derail. So I found that acting 'normal' on the internet doesn't work either, unless it goes both ways.

In a good community, people are get and equal voice, even if that voice is devisive, useful or just plain trolling. Its think this whole "opening himself up to fails" is a good thing. IMHO, as meaningless as thanks and fails are, they are also a clutter free way of saying if the point made was insightful or inflammatory. Having a large avatar and the tendency to make multiple detailed posts using strong language does not equate to automatic domination of discussions.

To everybody who think people like SkinnyPupp, Ulic, The7even, or any one of the other mods/posters who like to use strong language or to take up half your screen in one single post are automatically actually dominating discussions, maybe you're either just too chicken shit to (why one would be on the internet is beyond me), or just plain and simple incapable of voicing your own arguments.

Advocating a "Thanks" system was a great idea. It helps people separate the good posts from the insignificant/regular/(or even) bad posts. It serves as a easy "go-to" rep system for posters who genuinely contribute to the forum. But it should only go as far as to separate the "good-posters" from the "non good-posters". There should be a bottom line where the "reputation system" cannot formally sink below.
But that's exactly what the FAIL system does: it weeds out good/regular posts from BAD ones. Why do we need to know what the bad contributions are if we already found the answers/things we were looking for in the "good posts"? Trolling/Fail-whoring aside, the only thing the FAIL system does is disenchant those who seek to contribute to the forum (but ultimately fail).

Things like offal (intestines, organs) are REALLY good for you, and other parts like tendon, sinew, all have beneficial nutrition as well that we typically don't get in a 'standard' diet.

Want to eat unhealthy? Order a 24 piece chicken mcnugget set with regular Coke, fries, and have a shake for dessert.

Want to eat healthy at a Greek restaurant? Have a huge oven baked lamb with a horiatiki salad.

Want to eat unhealthy at a Greek restaurant? Order a Pastitsio with a bunch of deep fried tiganitas and Loukoumi for dessert

TL;DR for the lazy fucks: FAILS should be removed altogether.
Most forums who advocate a "reputation" system much like RS's Thanks/Fails system do so to give people positive reputations for contributing. They DON'T (generally) give people negative reputations for not contributing/not being agreeable by the community.

To everybody who think people like SkinnyPupp, Ulic, The7even, or any one of the other mods/posters who like to use strong language or to take up half your screen in one single post are automatically actually dominating discussions, maybe you're either just too chicken shit to (why one would be on the internet is beyond me), or just plain and simple incapable of voicing your own arguments.


I believe one of the two reasons why we don't have as much discussion as many people would like on RS is because so many people assume strong language/being known to use strong language equates to a strong argument. "Shit man, Ulic-Qel-Droma always right, better just stay away from this thread!" Sure, there are posters who generally come out on top in discussions by using strong language on a repeated basis, but do you actually believe it is because of the language that they use, or because they actually know what they're talking about? I know for a fact that many people on these forums are well-versed enough to have the choice not resort to those types of linguistic engineering to get their points across loud and clear.
The other reason? The very reason this thread was made: the FAIL button. I've never been particularly fond of the FAIL system.
Advocating a "Thanks" system was a great idea. It helps people separate the good posts from the insignificant/regular/(or even) bad posts. It serves as a easy "go-to" rep system for posters who genuinely contribute to the forum. But it should only go as far as to separate the "good-posters" from the "non good-posters". There should be a bottom line where the "reputation system" cannot formally sink below.
But that's exactly what the FAIL system does: it weeds out good/regular posts from BAD ones. Why do we need to know what the bad contributions are if we already found the answers/things we were looking for in the "good posts"? Trolling/Fail-whoring aside, the only thing the FAIL system does is disenchant those who seek to contribute to the forum (but ultimately fail).


Take out the entire thanks/fail system. You can't thank/agree if there's no option to fail/disagree. And besides, this all roots to human flaws. If someone doesn't agree with you, you tend to think negatively of that person even if it's just a little bit. On the flipside, what about unworthy thanks? People thank posts for the most lamest and repulsive things. That's not exactly efficient either and not a good dose of forum contribution. And lol... if fails disenchant people from posting, they got other problems to consider. They really need to get out more, haha.

I don't quite think its a matter of using strong language. Ulic brought this up (coincidently) that its better to be a kind ruler than to rule with an iron fist. I think the pitfall of Skinnypup was not that he disagreed with everyone but the sheer delivery of his disagreement, plus there was little room for altering his opinion. He can sound so condescending sometimes and honestly who wouldn't get peeved after X times. His reputation was built on that and like the elephants people here are, they won't forget. So whether his next honest disagreement was put nicely or not, people fail him because his reputation for douchery is like 5 miles ahead of him. There are some people here whos voice can command an army because they vocalize themselves well, have logic/appeal, and apply an appropriate stance on it that people (without 12 year old mentalities) can be cool with.

That's just my 2 cents.

But obviously a large part of the board knows what we're talking about, and the type of bothersome behavior from one user has been established in this thread and others, apparently, over years. I don't see a point in going around in circles. The best analogy I can make is it's similar to when Taylor first came on this board, he had to be reeled in a bit. This is a magnified version.

^skinny, u shouldnt react to that. just know that the haters like to whine publically. but for every whiny bitch there is someone like me who thinks you did nothing wrong and thinks the people actually agreeing with this thread are pathetic little babies. rs is great but every once in a while something like this thread comes up that makes me depressed about how pathetic 18-30 year olds in this city can be. trust me, if there was some sort of "bulk fail everyone 'passionate' about this thread" button id use it in a heartbeat :-p
