| Bangkok Floods
Bangkok is fucked right now. A friend of mine's house is basically a foot away from the ceiling of the first floor, give or take.
The domestic airport has flood waters covering the runway.
Many factories are under water, which is going to have a lot of repercussions on the workers in the city, obviously.
And it may take a month or more for the waters to recede. Meaning? You are going to have tropical mold for years to come. Yum!

This, on top of the political instability for the last 5 years(the gov't was overthrown 2 weeks after I left in 06) is just going to make things so much worse for years to come.

Yeah they are FUCKED so bad. Couldn't have happened to a country with nicer people either. I always love going to Thailand. No so much Bangkok, but once you get out of there the people are so nice.
But they always persevere so I think they'll tough it out like they always do.

Even my friend is kind of taking it in stride. I asked if he was going to go over to help, and he basically said, no I need to make more money here to send over and that will help more than I can.
Things get a little risky when you get in that region. If an earthquake doesn't get you, we've got: monsoons, tsunamis, floods or a coup d'etat to take you out.

its not just Thailand though the whole area was hit pretty hard i think Cambodia has the 2nd most deaths
It sounds like Bangkoks flood barriers were able to stave off a serious surge of water though yesterday so i guess that's an upside?  | |

I want to go in January and rebuild houses. I figure the expats might appreciate dealing with me, instead of thai workers direct. BUT no one has any money because all the factories are in the flooded regions, so i may need to re-examine my business plan.

When does monsoon season usually run for Thailand? Is it always mid-July onwards?
I was thinking of visiting Thailand next May too... Hmm, think it'll be okay then?

This is some serious damage...
For those that are into computers, WD and Seagate closed their factories and are having HDD shortages.
Prices on HDD's are going up by a lot, some prices have almost doubled, and NCIX excluded them on their weekly sales now.

A friend of mine is organizing a tournament with all proceeds going towards a charity that is currently helping. Hope this is okay with mods, no profit is being made here and I just want to share the word. WHAT:

My bro-in-law lives in BKK with his wife and the first floor of their apartment is flooded. They have fled and are staying with her parents just outside the city. The government gave a 5 day holiday recently to encourage people to leave town. It's pretty scary to say the least. My wife and I will be visiting in December for a couple weeks.

With people that know Thailand-I have a question.
Do you think there are enough people left with money to support someone(ala me) setting up shop in a place like Rangsit, hiring me some companies and setting up as a contractor to be the face for expats so they can deal with someone that gets shit?
I've been running it through in my head, about spending a month or so and just pounding out home repair.
I like vacations that make me money, not cost.
My concern is with the majority of factories fucked, it won't be a worker shortage at all, but a money shortage.
