Hi guys, recently one of my friend's macbook got stolen and even though it's

just a macbook he had a lot of assignments and projects which take a shitload

of time to do, so please help him out looking for a laptop

specs are 2.26 ghz, intel core 2 duo, 6 gb ram, and laptop has a black keyboard

also it was in a kenneth cole carry bag, and had a moshi keyboard protector, and it had no adapter

would be greatly appreciated if you guys look on CL, i've been doing that but no luck

thanks, greatly appreciated

edit - it's 09 version and he doesn't have serial number because he threw away box

So its probably a macbook pro 2010 version with an aluminum unibody?

It would be more helpful to just post the serial number of the macbook since that's the only thing that can never change.

And it is impossible to differentiate it from the millions of other macbooks in the world.

Resetting/wiping a HD isn't very hard and with no distinguishable features, it is even more difficult.

Yes, please post serial number. There's a guy on my Facebook that I know from high school (not close friends with and don't know him too well. He's got a rep for being sketchy) that's advertising "Apple laptop for sale". As slim as the chances are that you'll get your laptop back, I'd like to try to help. Eyes are open.

I have a feeling his documents are lost. If anyone who steals a computer first thing they'd do is remove everything that differentiates it.. data, stickers, bags, etc.

best bet is to figure out the serial number. maybe a receipt for warranty?

tell your friend to file a police report first, get a case number if anything.

No receipt of any kind?

Did your friend ever have it serviced? Warranty work?

They will have all records.

One of the local Mac resellers posted a story about how a Macbook was recovered by the RCMP using their software. I cannot find the article anymore, but the place was Simply Computing.

Simply.ca's Theft Recovery Software - Free with Every Mac – Simply.ca (http://simply.ca/theft-recovery.php)

Not sure how they do it. MAC (Machine Access Code) address? Thief goes online and software kicks in?

If he registered the computer to Apple when he got it, he should be able to get the serial number with his Apple ID

well OP, i might have some suggestions on where to look for your friend's stolen macbook.

I have found a list of possible locations which the stolen macbook might appear in:

Starbucks in Vancouver (http://www.starbuckseverywhere.net/Vancouver.htm)
