Are we voting for a specific PERSON or a PARTY?

I would vote for the limo guy who wants to implement bike insurance. He likely will not get the job, but at least he will have some votes.

He wants to shift the tax burden from businesses to the residents more. What does that mean? I interpret that as higher property tax, higher costs for use of public facilities (community centers, pools, ice rinks, etc.) and likely higher parking rates.

And oh yeah, those bikes lanes, they're just temporary trial lanes. :troll:

I'll go with gregor because Suzanne Anton is a twat and i don't know who thew fuck else is running. Not a fan of her proposed plan to bring back the street car. 200million plus for a service that will only help tourist, i'd rather go with bike lanes.

Seriously that was one of the dumbest ideas thrown around. As bad as gregor is, Anton from all her interviews, strikes me as a complainer with little in the way of ideas to improve things.

I hate it when a political campaign is based on "the opposite of what the current guy is doing".

The liberals did that in the last federal election, and it worked out wonderfully for them.

And that is what Anton is doing as well.

Here in New West I'm happy to go with the same old, same old. Build more shit that makes my city look less dumpy please. Yeah!

Gregor.

Although I think his decision of putting up those stupid TVs (at Vancouver taxpayers' expense) during the Stanley Cup playoffs was absolutely retarded (While our public programs are grossly underfunded [education, renewable energy, etc.] the mayor goes out of his way and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to subsidize people to watch MORE TV? Wow. Just wow.) I am also very disappointed at his subsequent handling of the riot.

With that said, I do think his policies on reducing homelessness (this program improves all our lives-reduces crime/injustice/etc.) and his aim to improve Vancouver's livability (bike lanes, local food, greenery etc.) is to be applauded.

I don't get why the NPA doesn't fight fire with fire and put up an mayoral candidate who's just as photogenic as Gregor, but is actually able to articulate. Gregor may be a pretty face, but he's pretty bad when he's forced to stray from his talking points. I can't listen to him for more than a couple of minutes when he ventures off-script.

Anton would probably make a decent bureaucrat, but she's not cut out to be a politician. She comes across as old and cranky (I suppose she reflects the majority of NPA supporters.) Mike Klassen, the guy who used to run that CityCaucus blog, should have put his money where his mouth was and ran for mayor himself (instead he chickened out and decided to run for council.) Heck, even Rob MacDonald would have done a better job of galvanizing supporters of the status quo and the wealthy by running for mayor. (He ran an editorial in the Province a while back in which he called for the ripping up of the bike lanes.)

Gregor will get it, hands down.

My summary of Vancouver politics...he's a twit and she's a twat. Pick one. It'll be cheaper to pick the twit.

I think he's more an "ideals guy" than good at actually running the city. Seems that a few instances he just kinda hopes it works out for the best. Let's hold hands.

http://vancouver.ca/ctyclerk/elections/2011election/profiles/images/Harley_Jaimes_Rose.jpg
Dubgee is a single dad, youth mentor and musician. from East Vancouver. His working class family roots have been part of the Little Mountain and Commercial Drive area since the 1970's. After becoming a father and enrolling his son in the same neighbourhood school that he attended as a child, he joined the Parent Advisory Committee and began working with youth in after school programs. Combining his two passions of music and youth advocacy, Dubgee soon began to facilitate hip hop empowerment workshops in order to help youth vent their frustrations through music. While working with youth, Dubgee observed the conditions that affected East Vancouver schools and became increasingly frustrated with budget cuts to education and civic spending habits. He became vocal about his concerns by joining community marches, and rallies and through his Music has decided to be the change he is so vocal about.

You're an idiot, if you voted based on this kinda reasoning, next time please spoil your ballot.

I posted an article where a woman was killed on a street 1 block away from a street with a dedicated bike lane. Why wasn't she using the bike lane still remains a question - yet bike lanes certainly did NOT save her cause she didn't use them.

Either bike lanes don't work, or we need a bike lane on every road cause guess what... not all bike lanes are going to take you 100% of the way to your destination. Bike lanes on every road aren't feasible, thus bike lanes don't work.

No you didn't

you posted an article about a woman getting hit by a car because she was riding too far to the right (leaving space for traffic) nothing in your post or the article was about having a dedicated bike lane 1 block away

A woman cyclist was killed in Ottawa 3 weeks ago cause she was doing cars a favour and riding on the edge of a lane, until some asshat opened their door, forcing her into traffic and a vehicle that didn't leave enough room ran her over. For safety reasons she could've and should've decided to occupy more of the lane beyond the reach of car doors, yet she like many cyclists was being nice to drivers, and she paid with her life for that convenience.

Article is here: CTV Ottawa- Woman charged with knocking Danielle Nacu off bike - CTV News (http://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20111025/OTT_nacu_charge_111025/20111025/?hub=OttawaHome)

So I get why you're upset, yet just chill. Waiting 30-60 secs for the light to change isn't going to kill you, yet impatient drivers might kill the cyclist.

i could swear you just bitch for the sake of bitching on here...

as for your first comment voting based on the reasoning of what a mayor has done for particular segments of the population (your segment it would seem since you attest to being a cyclist) isn't idiotic at all.... it's actually the proper way to decide if a candidate will be beneficial to you or the communities needs.. "what will he do for the city..."

and then you're bitching about how bike lanes won't work because there's not enough of them.... lol wtf? are you for it or against it? if you're against it your reasoning shouldnt be "there isn't enough of them to be useful", vote him in so he can give you more bike lanes then...

or the $65 million for "transit and infrastructure" where 60% of it goes to bridges and streets... something like 15% of it to "greenways" so... more fucking "traffic calming devices" aka roundabouts with dying shrubs in them. Fucking retarded voters.

The $68 million for parks, libraries, community centres and recreational facilities with $40m allocated to that portion of it, I'm less against. Some of the pools and ice rinks are in definite need of upgrades and repair. And I do actually use them.

Great point on the offices!

I don't understand why the city has to borrow for infrastructure. They should be getting gas tax transfers and using that for infrastructure.

I posted this recently: Google Maps

Go by this intersection and see the improvements the city paid to make. They widened the sidewalks, narrowed the street, made a corner harder to navigate, put a divider in the street, ... all to make crossing the street safer cause there's a school nearby. Makes sense, until you realize only a handful of students actually cross here. I drive past this everyday, so I got to see how many city workers were wasted on this for 3 months this summer!

If this is what they are borrowing for, its a complete waste.

Vision Vancouver definitely has a track record of doing things behind closed doors, but you know what's more pathetic? The NPA, the party of the rich and established, which finished a distant second. They screwed themselves by running a cranky old lady who had nothing positive to offer. You'd think that with all the commotion caused by the bike lane fiasco that the anti-cyclists, anti-environmentalists would have been out to vote in droves.

aaaannd....bringing this back to topic.

Susan Anton did a superb job of getting Gregor elected, and I think she should be very proud of he...oh, she was ona different party. Riiiight.

She never connected with voters. My test for people is, even if what you are saying doesn't make sense to me, does it make sense to others. She failed.

The only thing that she ever said where I sat there and actually agreed with her is in an article, she was talking about how being mayor is not as glamorous as 'some'-gregor make it out to be. She said quite clearly that she viewed homeslessness as a provincial problem. Their jurisdiction. The city's main goal, is development permits and infrastructure.

I don't think the city of Vancouver should be signing agreements to back the money for the Olympic village and all this other grandstanding, build a legacy bullshit.

Now, sadly that doesn't resonate with people that want solutions, see nothing coming from Victoria or Ottawa and have their candidate saying, "fuck that! not my bag, baby"

Gregor had this one in the bag before it started.

In New West, the incumbant mayor doubled his competitor. Doubled. I think in Civic politics, the only real time you get a change in Mayor is when the old one retires.

what???
Exactly, you don't get it and never will. Please spoil your uneducated vote next time.

i dont understand the part where you begin to type.... because you're constantly changing what you're saying ever so slightly to try and make it seem like you're not wrong when you clearly were....
Facts are not wrong. Just cause you don't understand them doesn't make them wrong.

just face it you're an idiot who comes on to bitch about anything and everything even when it contradicts what you were bitching about on a prior day and you'll bitch about things you support* as long as its coming from a person you dont like (robertson)
and now the personal insults cause you don't understand what you're talking about.

*no one really knows what you support since you're bitching about everything....
Stupid people don't understand, and I don't expect them to that'd why I talk down to them like they are idiots... cause well, they are.

solution: get laid (might be hard though since you'll probably bitch her/him out before you go at it)
LOL I've mentioned enough times my GF teaches sex ed. Yet you'd know that if you really followed my posts, right?

The solution is to kill off all the stupid people in the world, yet the government won't allow me to do that, so instead I just make fun of them.

I voted for Lotus Chung because I found this vid somewhat entertaining. She reminds me of a bad Asian stereotype

you don't even know what you were talking about thats just the thing... or else you'd explain like you enjoy doing but you cant...

Facts are not wrong. Just cause you don't understand them doesn't make them wrong.

you're still missing the point.... you're constantly changing and adding to things like a liar that was caught but wont admit to lying so he keeps on piling bullshit hoping that it'll eventually all make sense....

and now the personal insults cause you don't understand what you're talking about.
....so i guess that means you didn't understand anything from the very start?

since these were your very first words...You're an idiot

LOL I've mentioned enough times my GF teaches sex ed. Yet you'd know that if you really followed my posts, right?
having sex and having a "GF" are two different things and no i don't follow your posts... i simply remembered your post in a thread i was following...

maybe you should start off with yourself? since you still have no clue what your babbling about if there were no usernames attached to each post you'd probably be bitching @ yourself and not even realize it... that's just how bad a state of bewilderment that you're in
