| UPS brokerage fee question
So I had a broken Maha battery charger that I sent back to California for warranty service. Today I just received a UPS delivery notice saying that I need to pay UPS 40.96 for brokerage fee. This is ridiculous as I am not importing anything. The charger it self is only worth $44 as well. I would rather not pay the $40 to UPS and just not accept the package, but that means I loose my charger, What should I do?

UPS does not collect the spot but sends you an invoice later.

This guy gives the details on how to get the brokerage fees waived. You gotta make some calls, and fill out some forms, but it's worth the time.

If you really don't want to pay the fee, reject the package and it'll be sent back to the buyer. I'm not sure if you have to pay anything if you do that though.
Whenever you're buying something from the US, ALWAYS ask the seller to ship it to you by USPS.
UPS will always fuck you over with their bullshit fees.

UPS will always fuck you over with their bullshit fees. | If you must ship by UPS or Fedex, choose their express/expedited shipping to avoid brokerage. Yes, it's more expensive, but it's hella cheaper than the fucking brokerage scam.

you guys are missing the point
Boost didnt buy anything he was simply getting warranty service done
he shouldnt have to pay anything
I think whoever repaired your unit is supposed to list the package as warranty work or something.... not sure Boosty you should call UPS and the company that repaired your unit

Just got off the phone with UPS. It turned out rather well, I explained the situation to the rep and she said I just have to contact the sender, and get the sender to fax them a corrected invoice stating that it's a warranty repair instead of a new product. Apparently the manufacture wrote a value of $69 for the charger on the box, where they should've said it's for warranty repair. This is ridiculous that UPS will want to charge $40.96 for something declared as $69. What a rip off! Hopefully the manufacture can give them what they want and they can give me the package with that fee waived. I'll report back once I receive the package on how it goes.

I'll take the slower USPS over UPS any day.
Got burned a couple times by there brokerage fee. If anything HAS to be shipped from USA to Canada by UPS, I'll get it sent to Hagen's so I can avoid the bullshit fees.

If you ship it with "Expedited/Express" as Presto said above duties/brokerage is covered. A lot of people go around telling people that UPS is terrible because UPS Ground was selected. If you ask the seller to ship with the slightly more expensive option it gets to you faster. I find UPS way more reliable in terms of tracking updates and speed. I don't have to deal with the the ups and downs of USPS "Shipment Received" then it showing up at my doorstep. If you absolutely have to ship UPS Ground (Basic) phone in ahead of time right after you get the tracking number and ask to declare it yourself. It'll save you the duties and brokerage and all you'll have to pay is the taxes if you're lucky.
Don't get me wrong. USPS - Canada Post is still good, just don't let the word UPS scare you into thinking that they always charge brokerage.
