| Apple Certified Refurbished
Im having a hard choice between buying a refurb product and saving about 200 dollars before taxes, or buying a brand new 13 inch macbook pro for 1,149.99 (student discount ) vs 979 (refurb)
new
13-inch: 2.4 GHz
2.4GHz dual-core
Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz
500GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Built-in battery (7 hours)2
Refurbished
MacBook Pro 2.3GHz dual-core Intel i5
Originally released February 2011
13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1280-by-800 resolution
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM
They are very similiar , with .1 + Ghz and a bigger hard drive with the new ones.
From what ive heard refurbs from apple have been great with no exceptions.
what do you guys think? thanks!

Refurbished is practically like new. Even has 1 full year of warranty and qualifies for applecare.

Get the refurb. Add your own 500GB HDD - very easy to do.
Nothing wrong with the refurb, and the .1Ghz will not be missed.

I am going for the refurb too. Been reading about some possible complete refresh/redesign next year but who knows. It is impossible to keep up with the new version of any technology.

I got a 15" MBP Refurbished last summer and it's been good. I've only had one major problem and it was with the Hard Drive. The hard drive stopped mechanically working but luckily for me I had everything backed up. Went to the apple store and they replaced the hard drive for me no questions asked.
It's a really good deal, it's practically brand new and has been tested.

I got a refurb 17" Macbook Pro, and it's been fine for the past 2 years. I've heard that refurbs are more reliable than new products, as whatever made the first owner send it in has been repaired, and also been given full testing prior to being put back for sale.

I hate the lower prices now. I paid $3300 for mine, now you can get a 17" MBP for about $2400. Sheesh....

If anyone is thinking of getting a MBP, don't do it, their lineup is bound to be refreshed very soon. Rumors is the 15in" MBP will have Macbook Air like design.
