Hey cool story bros,

So as some of you may know, I was in an accident this morning on the way to work between 650-7:00Am. You might have heard it on the radio, but they had to shut down KG for a bit. Sorry if you were late because of that.

Long story short: I was in the left lane heading northbound. A van in the right lane decided to change lanes last minute. I must have been in his blind spot. He made the switch, i slammed the brakes and horn but it was too late. He side swiped me hitting my passenger door, fender, wheel, hood, bumper, lip... There was minor damage to the other driver.
I went across the median into the oncoming traffic. Luckily, there was no one there otherwise I would have hit them head on.

They shut down the road because they had to tow me out. I told the truck driver that they'll need a flatbed or reverse tow but he wouldnt listen. This is what happened:

I am fine. Got checked out by the medics. I have started a claim with ICBC so ill keep this thread updated on what happens next.

That's lucky that the other lane was clear, it could have been much worse.

I was forced onto the shoulder of the highway last winter and just a few weeks ago into an oncoming lane in Surrey by people not checking their blind spots and merging into my lane, fortunately I responded quickly each time. idiot drivers...

I seem to experience this more in Surrey than any other location. Now I just keep very alert with the cars around me and try to anticipate what they will do. Give yourself enough distance from the car beside you and in front of you. Enough distance so you have more than enough time to react to any circumstances.

The ambulance came so I had to go get checked out. Flatbed Eventually came but I had to leave at that point.

if the car is to be rebuilt, it wont be cheap. my resale value will equal squat. good luck to them sourcing out parts that i had a hard time finding.
if its considered totalled... ive put in 10k that i will never get back. i have receipts on most things but just seems sad because it all goes to waste and cant really take it off the car.

yesterday at work i had the EXACT same thing happen to me while i was driving my manager back to work on e 1st ave just before nanaimo. the driver in the van didnt see me and switched last minute right INTO my lane where i was and i had to swerve onto oncoming lane to avoid him, i gave him the biggest honk ever.

The front lip was just cracked and fixable. He drove the whole lip/bumper into my engine bay/rad and cracked all the clips that were left.
Now it's all in pieces. I guess you missed the part where the car is trying to tow a RWD car from the front. I had the keys with me and the e-brake was on.

I can't imagine how you felt seeing that tow truck damage your car right like that. I had a friend tip my CBR over and my heart just sank.

Good job with the video capture to avoid any bullshit excuse the tow company might make to avoid paying for damages.

As far as the car being a rebuilt, i'm sure if you were to sell the vehicle on the forums there are tons of people to vouch for your car regardless.

the most important thing is health and coming out without any injuries.

From the stupid tow truck driver, it seems like it also damaged your fender and hood as well.

I wish I had a dashcam. I'm thinking of buying one once I get a car.
I got a call from my body shop today but I missed the call. I got super excited because he said he'd call once they get the car. So I was under impression she servived until I checked the voicemail.
He was just calling to see if I had heard back from ICBC yet. Lol got my hopes up.

As far as I can tell, I'll need new passenger door, fender, hood? Bumper, lip, fog light, head light, front plate :troll:, exhaust tips (he lifted the front cause the rear to drag along the ground), and wheel/tire. Good luck to finding another set of 88 vet rims. Now that I think about it, I might need new axle, control arm, rotor, brakes, caliper, basically the whole steering assembly.

ICBC will sort things out given the solid evidence you provide.

tried to tow my gf's mom's Volvo 850 (FWD) with the front wheels down... and yelled at me telling me that "wikipedia is wrong you moron, all volvos are RWD - you didn't know that?" R-Tard got it good when we arrived at Volvo and service guys had a big facepalm while he was unloading the car into the lot... "lot boy was yelling, WTF ARE YOU DOING MAN!!"

make sure you do your own research on value, they will give you a very deflated amount, you have to be able to counter with an educated value.

Ya I started printing off receipts for recent work done on it.
I'm happy I was running my winters and not my summer wheels.

I have the stock wheels that I'd like to swap for the vets but my stocks don't have any rubber on them.
If anyone has 215/45/17s to give away. I'd do it. Those blizzaks are expensive.

I don't know with ICBC he might luck out. My friend bought a rebuilt civic for 8K years ago. It was stolen 3 months later and ICBC gave him 13 grand.

Doesn't look that bad (assuming nothing in the rear). I had a similar accident a year ago to my drivers side (little more worse) and it cost $6000 in repairs.

The suspension and steering assembly is wrecked.
It's hard to tell from the pics. The repairs are over 10k now but I told them to do a more detailed estimate.

So I guess I have two options left:

Buy out the car for $$ and be left with $$
Or
Take whatever ICBC estimates it at (good chance they'll undervalue so I'll have to argue with them on the amount)

Depending on how much I can buy the car back, I just might do it.
Use the money to buy something else, and slowly rebuild my old car into a mean machine.

Ya pretty fair. It was below my expectations but above my low ball fear. So they met right in the below while I still pulled stuff off the car.
Sucks I can't take off the new sways, rotors and brakes because I don't have the old stock ones.

since its a write off, not much point. i just want to put this behind me and move on.
i got the rental until tuesday, so next purchase should be in the next few days.

i am picking up the vet rims on monday. having them switched with the stock 17s
