So if mods dont mind, Im just trying to get more replies cause Im heading there in 2 hours after work. Can we move it to comp forum after 4pm?
Friend bought NEW acer laptop
take it home
"no bootable drive found -- please insert boot disk" on first power upinstead of the usual windows setup on a new comp.
i tried setting up the boot order, tried everything in bios, reset defaults etc. The quickstart guide (LOL) says put battery in, plug in turn on, follow instructions.
He takes it back and they say "thats why you should buy the $100 startup fee, cause every laptop is like this" <- WTF?!
I know for sure thats bullshit.
Ive never seen or heard of this happen yet.
Me being the software dev, am I just retarded right now?
Or does anyone here work for futureshop and know how to get around this bs? Im planning on going up there and having them fire up another new one on the spot to see how that acts.
In futureshop, you can do a return within 30 days no questions asked (even if it works fine). So just return it, and then buy another.

You can return it without restocking fee no?

+1 you can return it no questions asked, it doesn't work, return it simple as that, if they give u a hard time talk with the manager
and that 100$ startup fee is bullshit, no laptop from futureshop is like that, he's just trying to push it on you for your replacement...
Can return it without any fees being taken off
This is why I like Costco they return anything no questions asked :)
they may not have the most up to date shit but their customer service is great when it comes to problems, IMO of course

I would prefer an exchange over a return as it was a one day sale.

no bootable drive found -- please insert boot disk means the hard drive is messed up. I'm almost 100% sure. I would pay the $100 just to see what the tech would do and then yell at them for breaking my laptop.
Return the laptop and get a new one or ask for an exchange.

All notebooks come preloaded with Operating system. At most you just have to do the initialization of the O.S. I bet your buddy has a bad hard drive. Just get them to replace the unit for you.

I know that BestBuy has a 14 days refund policy, and FS should be the same.
I purchased a toshiba 11" laptop and found it incredibly slow, so I just returned it back. The only question they asked me at customer service was "whats wrong with it??" ... I replied, "too slow loading"...very simple, they said ok, typed it in the comment screen and got refund back.
Oftentimes, I find FS has bad service as well...bought a camera awhile back and nobody was helping, just talking near the counter.
at metro, there is an old guy standing at cashier, getting commissions without even helping a single customer, awesome

Probably, I mean honestly what is there to do. Hit the power button, set username/pass, they can't even set up your wifi for you. The system recovery discs are almost useless as well, just keep a copy of your stuff and reformat.

Having now worked at FS for 6 months and indirectly dealing with a few returns, you'd be surprised at some of the shit people pull.
just off the top of my head i've been given these excuses
1. i bought a case for my ipod, that's protection. I went to bed and when i woke up and there's a crack on the glass!!! i want an exchange.
2. i turned on the tv and the glass just cracked,
3. my tweeter fell off, and no i didn't use the grille for it. Exchange it.
4. The wire just came out of the headphone, i don't know how it happened!
seriously, not everyone at customer service is an asshole, but sometimes stupid shit happens.
lol..futureshop employees are douches. I was at richmond location purchasing new headphones. I asked one employee from t.v. department to show me where all the headphones are and I say thanks, just gonna browse around.
A while later I see him watching me as I grabbed a set of headphones but then walked to the cellphone section instead since there was also headphones. The man there talked to me about the headphones in that department also and I say thanks. After a while I walk to the cashier at the front to pay, and what do you know, I see the guy from t.v. department walking up fast because he saw the guy from the cellphone section, walking up to the cashier to tell her they "helped" me LOL. Fags

you do know, products often do have odd things break or heat up? the new iphone 4s has symptoms of heating up and burning so far i've heard in the news. I've had numerous products break on me or fall apart due to bad build quality. My laptop, just purchased recently, the bezel and frame is somehow built curved. I exchanged that.

The PC guys are always tools. Last time I went in with my Father in law to buy a Desktop from BestBuy the dude was like do you wanna pay $100 or whatever amount it was for us to setup the computer for you? I'm like no I'm pretty sure I can manage that on my own and he replied it's not as easy as it seems and you could really mess things up if not done properly.
I'm no computer whiz but I took it home like any other PC, plugged it all in, power on and there's like maybe 1 or 2 simple things to set up and as long as you can read english you can manage it.

the ones at metrotown are pretty bad imo...and i hear a lot of horror story out of the surrey location (not sure if the central city one or scott road)
surprisingly i just walk a couple minutes to the bestbuy next door and they are generally more pleasant to deal with...the guys at least.

Most the information in this thread is incorrect...
Whether or not there is a 14 day policy in state at certain times is irrelevant, the guy that bought the laptop just recently has, until January 8th, 2012 to make an exchange, refund or price protection.
Secondly, was your laptop sealed? It seems like it was a demo or a returned open box. They might have started to do a restore on it and then didn't end up doing it making it unbootable. All computers should be able to boot into OS from the first time.

I work at Future Shop and yes, some people are douches because the warranties and the setup pay more commission then just selling the product by itself, so of course they are gonna push it.
Just take the laptop back and ask to talk to a manager and they will exchange it on spot no questions asked.
And the thing with them racing to the front to say they helped, some headphones can pay anywhere from $20+ and that is quite a lot for talking to someone for 5 minutes, every cent counts, so of course people are going to race for the commission instead of it going unclaimed.

the cost prices are the ones the manafacturer supplies to the company, they can change but that is only if the manfacturer decides to change them. For all I know, the cost of the product is probably super low but they give us these costs and we base prices off of them.

Turnover rate for staff is so high there. Not all staff are bad, but most really don't know very much. During Xmas they just mass hire people. Most know nothing. Maybe have a slight interest but not a pro. It's not like they pay people that well, nor do they spend to time and money to actually train people. The ones that usually know stuff are the ones that have worked there for many years.

Two words, memory express, have experienced nothing but outstanding customer service from these guys. (I am in no way associated) I bought a cheap gateway laptop last year from them but I turned down the free setup because I wanted it right away, half a year down the road my hard drive fucks up and I bring it back and they dealt with everything for me (including the fact that I didn't have a backup disk). Wasn't charged anything for the repairs and they also called me several times to tell me things like, part is coming in on xx date, work has begun and will finish by xx day, it's ready for pickup, etc.
Thoroughly impressed with their expertise and customer service and would gladly recommend them to a friend, also the price beat guarantee is nice too. The way they handled the warranty claim was better than Apple when my iphone screen started flickering.
I've had friends work at future shop and my own opinion of the company has always been inconsistent. I've had experiences where I was not pressured to buy anything, instead educated about potential purchases in the future and left happy. I've also had experiences where I researched the product online and planned to "grab and go" with the product, unfortunately the sales guy tried telling me something else was better (also three times more expensive!) and told me the manufactures warranty wasn't sufficient blah blah.
The way I see it, these sales guy need to make a living and this is their way of doing it. In terms of selling the warranties and services, sure these guys make money off these additions, but it's the manager who is shoving it down these guy's throats.
Just last week, I went to buy replacement speakers for my car. The doors panels, which were already removed was going to be an easy installation. I go to the future shop on Broadway to grab some speakers. I told the sales guy what I needed and he went to grab the speaker from the back. He had to wait for a manager to unlock the storage door so we just chatted about the car. He was calm and demo'ed some subs which I said was unnecessary for myself. The manager arrives, they leave together to grab the speakers.
A couple minutes later, he has the speakers and we go to sales terminal which I'm ready to pay. The manager that opened the door doesn't leave, instead he stands right behind the sales guy. It was making me uncomfortable, I couldn't imagine how the sales guy was feeling. The sales guy looks nervous and uneasy,
"do you want to buy the extended warranty for the spea.."
before he continues, I tell him I'm not interested.
"But they cover more than the manufacturer's warranty and only cost an extra $40, I really recommend it." The sales guy counters.
The manager is still positioned behind him, breathing down his back.
"Nah man I'm good, thanks for the offer."
The sales guy then offers me the installation required for the speakers.
"The doors are already off, I just have to unscrew the speakers and swap these in." I tell him.
"But we have lifetime warranty and if we screw it up, we will fix it." the sales guy replied.
Again, I told him I'll pass.
At the same time, the manager grunts and with a pissed off facial expression walks away.
The tension is fading and I could see the sales guy less nervous.
"I knew you didn't need the installation and warranty. I only offered it because the store hasn't met quota and he said I HAVE to sell it." the sales guy said as he completed the sale.
I told him it's alright and happy just to be out of the store.
With the amount of pressure they encounter day to day from disrespectful customers to number hungry managers, I try to understand why these sales guy resort to tactics us consumers find unethical or down right wrong. At the same time, I don't approve of lying and misinforming those less tech savy. These guys are here to provide a service, some do it well and there's always going to be some bad seeds in the batch. My opinion is if you can find a sales guy who provided great service, who you feel you can trust, just go to him for anything you need.
Regardless of Future Shop, Best Buy, Car Dealership or any customer orientated business. They will be some good sales people that actually care about your needs, but at the same time, there will always be some assholes who just want your money. It just depends who approaches you first.

The managers are different store to store. At my store, they don't breathe down our necks or stand behind us, they just remind us to try and sell it and if we can't then it's ok.
I have people come back to me for stuff out of department and people will go to whoever they are most comfortable with no matter what dept. they are in.

There should be a partition for windows...
ALL PCs bought either comes with a partioned drive with the restore CD or the actual CD.. if not, bring it back and tell them to fuck themselves with the laptop...
INSTALL WINDOWs yourself..
my friend bought a laptop from FS last year.. paid this So-Called Fee and also another fee for installing antivirus after she bought it... WTF...
Two words, memory express,
Exactly, if you want a computer or related items, GO to a computer store.. not a store that also sells home appliances.. all FS is missing is the kitchen sink

the fee is them basiclly just setting up windows for you and making a recovery cd which u can make yourself lmao, but imo you can try doing a clean install of the oem os by torrenting it and booting it off a usb and see if the harddrive pops up in the set up. If it does you most likely just needa format the drive within the setup and you're good to gooooo

With regards to the warranty I'm always polite at first, no thank you I'm not interested. When they keep pushing I'll start to question them on it. How it obviously is -expected value for me to buy it because if it was positive they wouldn't be selling me it because they'd be losing money.
Then I'll usually end it with, nah it's cool I throw them out after a year or two and buy a new one I have no respect for money. That will usually be followed by a what the fuck look and silence.
It works when people try and sell you something or try and get you to switch over to something as well? "Don't you want to save money?" Are you kidding? I can't spend all the money I have right now, fuck no.
There was a reddit thread where an old guy walked into a futureahop and said he wanted "the internet". They sold him an xbox 360 with a shit ton of accessories

the last one was new and sealed, im not sure what the hell happened.

anywho it wasnt a really big deal to return it.

I've had my fair share of good and bad experiences with Future Shop. the worst, though, was when i was a kid and went in with my dad We bought a cheap coded phone for something like $20. Between the shelf and register we had no less than four different associates and managers try to sell us a $40 replacement plan. After declining three times, my dad told the fourth that if the phone dies he'll simply attach a brick to the phone and throw it though the window of the store. lol. Even though this was at least 15 years ago, it kinda stuck to me about FS and how ruthless some associates are.

Yeah, their extended warranties are a joke. Most extended warranties are jokes!
I've been sucked once. Never again.
I've had the odd good experience with extended warranties, too.
Example: way back when the PS2 came out, a friend pre-ordered one, then got one through a friend while he was waiting, so we took his pre-order from EB Games in Brentwood Mall. DID NOT buy the extended warranty.
Cut to a little over a year later, the drive starts failing - first won't read games properly, then won't read DVDs, and eventually won't even read CDs. Did some research online and find that this is a very common issue with first-gen PS2s. Contacted Sony, only to be completely given the run around and ultimately talked down to like we were complete fools. In the course of this, my wife got on the phone with the guy, pointed out that she worked in wholesale and so was familiar with the process: that if we HAD bought the extended warranty and took the thing back to the store, the store would simply give us a new one and ship the dead one back to Sony for replacement. The Sony guy insisted that's not how it worked.
So we called the closest EB Games (Lougheed Mall)... despite the PS2 being over a year old and having been bought at a different branch, they sold us the extended warranty ($70)... and then promptly swapped our dead PS2 for a new one. The guy even confirmed, that yes, they would now simply ship it back to Sony, and get a replacement for their stock.
So props to EB Games and their extended warranty!

futureshop is only worth going to for there sales. ive gone in with my girlfriend a few times and have been completely ignored by the sales people while they hit on my girlfriend (right infront of me) and try and sell her on shit she doesnt need.
a couple months ago we were buying a new laptop and this dirtbag salesguy at the broadway store was trying to push the extended warranty, start up fee and anti-virus installation fees on her for over half an hour. she must have said no atleast 15 times. he literally would not let us leave the store until he had explained every possible reason of why we needed this bs service. what should have been a 10min shopping experience ended up taking over an hour. im not your average customer, i research online and i decide what i want to buy before i enter the store. i know more about computers then anyone in futureshop or bestbuy and i guarantee i can fix any computer faster and better then them.
my cousin was also sucked into one of there extended warrantys on a sony laptop a couple years ago. his os got corrupted with a virus and was having trouble booting. he brought it into the store for a repair and they literally had it for over 6 months saying they needed to send it away for a new motherboard. i went with him to pick it up and they hadnt done anything to the computer, it still had the exact same problem it had when he brought it in and had been sitting on the shelf the whole time. long story short i re-installed his os and his pc was good as new within an hour.
futureshop is a store, its not a specialty store. treat it like your average 7-11 or grocery store where the employees have no idea what they are selling or where it came from and are there mainly for customer service. if you want a computer i highly suggest NCIX or memory express. they know what there selling and they wont try and give you some extended warranty bs. plus they will price match any price you can find.
great sites for price matching are: PriceCanada.com: Search. Compare. Buy. - Canadian Online Shopping Search and Comparison! (http://www.pricecanada.ca) and Canadian Deals Community - PriceNetwork.ca (http://www.pricenetwork.ca). you type in the product name or model number and they will search an online database and give you the lowest price.

Shit broke down 3 times irrepairable, within 6 months, took it back they like Oh policy is we replace it when it breaks down AFTER 3 times... me lookin at them i was told its 3 times, it says here, so you mean on the 4th time, dude looks back and literally says "No, but right after err AFTER the 3rd, time"
I looked at everyone around me for a second saw blank looks on every face, shoved the laptop hard over his desk making sure it would hit the ground hard enough to crack the lcd screen, walked right the fck out without saying a word...
Only goos experience i ever have there is when i walk in knowing exactly what i want, walk in and get it and im out... But nvr goin back there again

... and I thought I was the one who had a shitty experience with Futureshop.
I bought a Sony MiniDisc player from them a few years ago and something malfunctioned, so I brought the entire unit back for Warranty work. When I got it back, the battery was missing from the player.
It was one of these NH14WM flat batteries: http://images.priceme.co.nz/Images/ProductImages/StRetailer589/id8003007920_m.jpg
and so I asked the manager to locate the battery for me, or give me a brand new one. The manager said he'll call me, and he never did. I tried calling and he's always "not in" or "on a break". I didn't bother after a few weeks.

It's not a scam, really. It's there because people are stupid. They have setup fees for PS3s and Xbox which are basically plugging in a couple of cables. The $100 setup fee basically charges for turning on the laptop and pressing Next a few times.
No, a laptop should work out of the box. If it doesn't, paying those idiot techs at FS $100 isn't going to fix it.
It's not a scam because people are dumb enough to pay and FS makes huge margins on tech work. It's just like how Monster cables are a "scam".

After getting screwed twice by their extended warranties and having an FS salesdroid LIE TO MY FACE about it, I vowed never to give them another cent of my money.
Never buy extended warranties. We all know at least one guy that works at FS or BB or whatever. Just take it to them and return it, even I'd you're years late. Most employees are trained to make the customer happy. Just skip the bullshit. I take all my shit to my friends that are managers. I smashed my iPod nano when I was on vacation, took it to my buddy who took it and gave me a new one, writing off the old one as a damaged demo.
They would be stupid not to do that one for you. You basically gave them $70 pure profit. They don't take the hit for that PS2. As you said, it's shipped back to Sony who will credit them for stock.
Next time someone tries to sell you an extended warranty, depending on the price, tell them you'll buy the extended warranty if they will give you an equivalent discount on the product, e.g. If the warranty on an iPod is $50, ask for a $50 discount. They aren't supposed to but a lot of retail guys do when they're behind on quota or because they make 10x the commission on the warranty compared to the actual product.

+1....
It may not be 100% upfront, but it's definitely not a scam. If someone told me that I had to spend $99 on setting up a laptop before I buy it, I wouldn't even think twice about it. I would've returned the laptop, gone somewhere else and bought it. Just the fact that people even question whether it's legit or not shows that some people are easily taken advantage of.
I see two HDMI cables at Future Shop and one is priced at $19.99 and the other is priced at $109.99. Yet people still buy the $109.99 cable despite seeing the $19.99 one. Why? Because people are vulnerable to marketing ploys.
SOME people actually need Future Shop to perform the services for them. But there are tons of people who are still paying Future Shop $99 to install Norton. $149 to setup an XBOX 360...Those aren't scams, it's just dumb people going for dumb offers.
As for everyone who is having problems with salesman lying to them about warranty policies, it's YOUR money that is being spent...Why not just read the terms and conditions yourselves. At the end of the day, the salesman can tell you whatever he wants and get away with it. Why would you trust spending your money on a policy explained by a salesman? In the paperwork, it clearly says that AFTER the 3rd MAJOR repair, you will get a replacement. Then people complain because they've had three repairs and can't get a replacement. Knowledge is power, know what you are getting yourself into, protect yourself, your money and investment.

futureshop is only worth going to for there sales. ive gone in with my girlfriend a few times and have been completely ignored by the sales people while they hit on my girlfriend (right infront of me) and try and sell her on shit she doesnt need.
a couple months ago we were buying a new laptop and this dirtbag salesguy at the broadway store was trying to push the extended warranty, start up fee and anti-virus installation fees on her for over half an hour. she must have said no atleast 15 times. he literally would not let us leave the store until he had explained every possible reason of why we needed this bs service. what should have been a 10min shopping experience ended up taking over an hour. im not your average customer, i research online and i decide what i want to buy before i enter the store. i know more about computers then anyone in futureshop or bestbuy and i guarantee i can fix any computer faster and better then them.
my cousin was also sucked into one of there extended warrantys on a sony laptop a couple years ago. his os got corrupted with a virus and was having trouble booting. he brought it into the store for a repair and they literally had it for over 6 months saying they needed to send it away for a new motherboard. i went with him to pick it up and they hadnt done anything to the computer, it still had the exact same problem it had when he brought it in and had been sitting on the shelf the whole time. long story short i re-installed his os and his pc was good as new within an hour.
futureshop is a store, its not a specialty store. treat it like your average 7-11 or grocery store where the employees have no idea what they are selling or where it came from and are there mainly for customer service. if you want a computer i highly suggest NCIX or memory express. they know what there selling and they wont try and give you some extended warranty bs. plus they will price match any price you can find.
great sites for price matching are: PriceCanada.com: Search. Compare. Buy. - Canadian Online Shopping Search and Comparison! (http://www.pricecanada.ca) and Canadian Deals Community - PriceNetwork.ca (http://www.pricenetwork.ca). you type in the product name or model number and they will search an online database and give you the lowest price.
I don't know any extended warranty that covers viruses...Viruses are USER damages, not manufacture defects. They should've turned you away as soon as you brought the computer to them in the first place. Then again, you probably would've complained about them not accepting your warranty claim on the basis of a virus. I also find your story hard to believe because you embellished it too much. 6 months? Really? That's not possible...It's simply not. A store can't keep your laptop for 6 months...NO STORE would do that...2 months at the most and that is a rare and extreme situation which would more likely that not result in a replacement. But 6 months? Come on, if you're going to lie about it, at least make it seem believable. Why didn't you take your laptop from them earlier? Why did you wait 6 months to pick it up and try a re-install of the OS? If you knew the computer had a virus on it, and you're so tech saavy, why wouldn't you have taken that computer from your friend earlier and restored it? Your story just doesn't make much sense to me...
Future Shop, Best Buy, London Drugs, Staples, all these places push and sell extended warranties. Warranties have the biggest profit margins. It's nearly 80% profit. Are they scams? No...They work for people who know how to use them. If your product stops working in its 3rd year, your extended warranty has it covered...If you drop your product in the 3rd year, NO warranty has you covered, unless your lucky. Point being, a service is there with terms and conditions and as consumers we should be fully aware of what we are buying before we get it. I wouldn't buy a warranty at a full price ever. Unless I get it for half off the price, I wouldn't buy it. I'm sure there are countless stories of people who bought warranty and are happy that they did because they're sitting at home with a brand new flat screen TV because of it.
Realistically, we shop at these stores because of CONVENIENCE. There's a Future Shop/Best Buy around every corner. They have tons of products and a reasonable return policy. We on this forum are ALL aware of NCIX, NewEgg and Memory Express, yet we continue to shop at Future Shop...Because it's convenient. I've gone into Future Shop before, bought a laptop and walked out. I put my foot down, was firm and told the guy I want the laptop and I want to go. Instead of being "polite" and continuing to say "No I don't think I'll get the warranty" why not just say "I'm going to leave, it's your choice if I leave with or without the laptop."
There are advantages and disadvantages of every store...I don't buying big items from NCIX unless im 100% sure of them because they usually don't have them on demo, I can't see what they look like in person, and if I decided to return the item, there is a restocking fee...Future Shop and Best Buy don't have these issues.

London Drug's computer section is pretty bad as well. They hire a bunch of retards there who know nothing about any tech. Ask them a question, they stumble and try to pretend they know the answer but in reality they are just lying. I don't know if they have any standards when hiring, but from the looks of it, they really don't. I heard the bosses at LD are also douches so maybe that's why the workers are the same. Why would anyone work there under shitty conditions is beyond me. It must be for the benefits or something.

You sound like a bitter, ex-employee...
Bought a camera at FS before.. only reason i bought the warrenty was cuz they gave me so much discount off my camera and accessories.
Camera was originally 499.. guy sold it to me for 350, etc you get the idea.
Warranty is only worth it if they give you discount to make it cheaper or the same price as it would be without the warranty.

When I bought a laptop from them 6+ years ago FS wanted to sell me their extended warranty for the laptop. I said not and he said even if there was nothing wrong with it I can bring it in and say the computer is "not as fast as it was" and they will look at it and even clean off the dust inside the computer just to make use of the warranty if I don't use it. I ended up not getting it. So won't a virus be included in the check up????
Another story I have with FS. I bought the top of the line Palm PDA with Bluetooth and a big storage space and a fairly decent color screen. I had a problem with the touch screen sent it in, 1 month later the replaced the screen I picked it up. Got home put it in the cradle that had a flat plug and the unit went up in smoke. So I brought it back another two weeks they called me back and said I charged the unit through the headphone jack. Took me about 15 min arguing with them how I can stuff the cradle into the headphone jack. They told me to bring the cradle in to show them. I did and they shut up! So now since the unit was not repairable they had to replace it with somehing similar. They told me I can have the lowest model (black/white screen, no Bluetooth, small storage) I bitched at them in front of everyone at the return section for over 1 hr with the manager walking in and out of the conversation. Anyways in he end I walked out with the Palm Lifedrive and 150 out of my pocket. I ended up giving up as I was too steamed up to even think properly. FS extended warranty it SHIT! I rather buy vision's extended warranty as they will give you back the amount back if you don't use it, in terms of store credit.
Argh. I'm still so steamed thinking about my story!

FS is terrible, one time I walked in there looking for a monitor and I guess I didn't fit their description of someone who would buy something so I straight up grabbed the box from the top shelf myself and as I went to the front to pay some idiot then comes and asks if I wanted an extended warranty or help carrying it, I was like nope and walked away. That start up fee is bs too, the set up is so straightforward on most computers.

^Same applies to Futureshop for me =S I've only had good experiences at the Coquitlam Center store, and nothing overly bad at the others. Maybe it's just cause I tend to not need the associates' help but yea...
The extended warranties aren't overly bad, it's more the willingness of the reps that you talk to that're the issue. I've an extended warranty from Dell on a laptop ($50 for 3 years on top of the 1 year factory, and another year for Nvidia screwing up on their 8000 series chips) and it has paid itself off a few times already. It's usually a good investment on appliances and some electronics/computers. I've run into some people with really shitty luck on their expensive appliances, and the normal out-of-warranty repair bills and markup on the repair parts are pretty hefty.

This depends greatly on location. There are a few stores with people who are enthusiasts and really know their stuff, and quite a lot of others which are staffed with hacks just making a living. Some stores' techs are a joke though. Find a store with good staff and stick with that store or salesperson. I've seen corporate customers follow managers from store to store to ensure good service.
As a salesperson I never hesitate to say "I don't know" to a customer. It is better for the customer to see that you are honest and willing to admit your lack of knowledge about certain things rather than to try and come up with a bullshit answer that they will see through easily.
You can also turn it into a learning experience with the customer as you two do some research on the internet or on brochures or product sheets.

My dad who doesnt speak english very well went with another dumb friend and got scammed with start up fee.
I went to return the laptop because I got a better one for him and I found out.
Went on a bitch trip to get the money back and they gave me a list of what they did.
Some of the shit on the list is bs:
Check if any dent or scratches
Check dead pixels
Check if system turns on
install windows
install firewall
optimize startup
All bullshit to milk money. And I flipped out because I did the windows setup for my dad, and there was no fucken firewall installed.
Bitched for like 30 minutes and there like we did it and they called a tech to see if they did install it. And they didnt
I ended up getting 3/4 of the fee back.

People shouldn't get extra money if they didn't earn it. That's like going to work and giving yourself an extra half hour pay just because you showed up.
Commission based sales reps do have it bad, but they need to EARN it, not just because they ring you up. Multiple times I had someone ask me to pay in their section, I just find it easier to go to the cashier so I can at least browse the store some more.

#4, he only approached me cause i had a lot of stuff in my hand
i cant justify giving somebody my sales who doesn't try to even help me, who likely only approached me because i had stuff in my hands, if a rep helps me, i'd be glad to ring it in with them because they earned it, but if not, why should i? i know what customer service is, and its absolutely garbage at some FS. no offense to those good reps though, i know a few.
one more thing, i remember during boxing day sales at FS, when customers had like laptops and gps' in their hands, the reps would just get a sticker and stick on their reference # so that would get punched in when they pay.. needless to say people ripped it off because somebody had helped them already
absolutely unprofessional and desperate....
