Its good that he died.

BUT he died before his son could get the control over the throne. Stocks in S korea are going down, all the necessities like water, food, gas are being bought in bulk right now.. ppl are scared.

Its worse off that he died right now~ I hope they won't do anything stupid

^ stop posting naked pics of yourself online.. that is embarrassing.

I'm curious, how would everyone in this thread, including you, Jew, undo the brainwash?

And do you guys think it would be possible to make them see the light.

I heard some of his people really believed it all 100%. Which is scary.

You're absolutely right but I still think it's a good thing.
Yes, it'll be unpredictable but Yes, I'm glad that this is so.

I don't like the idea of the rest of the world being comfortable while millions of people there eat clay and starve.

Some might say "who cares" and to those I say "go fuck your dead mother", because people are people and countries are just imaginary borders, and they're people whether theyre here or there.

I guess that's why I'm glad he's gone, even though you're right that his death brings a lot of worrisome uncertainty.

The antagonists in Homefront were originally intended to be Chinese, but were later replaced by a unified Korea for two reasons: the risk of a possible backlash by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the reality of economic interdependence between America and China that made the Chinese "not that scary"[8] said Tae Kim, a former CIA field agent and consultant on the game's backstory. "We went to a very rigorous, academic research process to make sure to not only look at North Korea's current state but to look at historical examples how things could parallel and turn events. History repeats itself. From today to the day the invasion starts in the game, if you combine everything, the odds are very very slim this becomes true. But when you look at the storyline step by step, every step is a coin flip but a plausible step. So once you get there, it's plausible. And from there the next step is plausible as well. Even though the whole thing is fictional, it comes with plausible baby steps."

scares me the most that a CIA agent was their source..

The leaders of North Korea aren't viewed as political leaders by the population, they're messiahs, that reaction is completely genuine. It's as if Buddha, Allah or Jesus just died. It's also why an invasion of North Korea would be nearly impossible and they'll never have an arab spring style revolution, never mind the massive fascist military force, the ordinary citizens would lay down their lives without hesitation to protect the state.

Yeah, being oppressed and threaten with violence has nothing to do with this at all. I'm willing to bet more than half of the ppl are there putting on a show for self preservation, not to pay tribute to "god". NK is one big show, nothing more.

If someone wanted to "invade" NK, it would be a walk in the park in the context of war baring any intervention from the big two.

That's a very accurate statement when referring to certain fascist countries, the sudden uprisings in Egypt and Libya when the opportunity to topple a dictator arose are evidence of that. I'll remind you however, that even when it became very clear that the governments in those countries would fall many members of the military and some ordinary citizens were willing to fight to the death. What makes Egypt and Libya different than North Korea, it's quite simple, everything that makes the dictatorship strong is magnified exponentially and therefore the percentage of fanatically loyal citizens is as well. During the dictatorships in Egypt and Libya limited western influence was allowed, although the state run media released propaganda and controlled the information it's citizens had access too, they allowed foreign visitors and business. North Korea invites only very select foreign visitors as guests of the state and releases exponentially more propaganda, the result is a bizarre culture you see in the video, it's a very literal 1984 style society. Kim Jong Il wasn't a leader to the people in the video, he was a god, you can't fake a reaction like that.

It's not often someone responds well to being corrected on something, especially on a forum, fail removed and I commend your maturity.

The comparison to the way children cry is actually interesting, because in many ways I consider those people to being more on the mental level of a child than an adult, as a result of the isolation and restrictiveness of the society limiting their ability to intellectually develop..

A reddit reply

Alright, I know I'm late to this, but I'll comment anyway. I'm using a throwaway because I work in the international security field, and I simply don't know what kind of monitoring my agency has placed on my main account and computer.
A military coup is a distinct possibility. The death of Kim Jong-Il has created a power vacuum, and many generals are looking to fill it. There are coups that have been in the works for a long time.
That said, Kim Jong-Un is not an idiot like the Western media and agencies like mine have spread as rumor. He is not particularly capable, but he is Kim Jong-Il's son -- he is ruthless and largely unwilling to relinquish power. A military coup against him would divide the country, and coup leaders cannot have that. NK is strong because it is united, and its leaders know this.
Any coup would need to be mostly bloodless and garner popular support, likely through moving Kim Jong-Un to a prominent but powerless position. The most likely culprits in this scenario are Kim Jong-Il's sister, Kim Kyong-hui, and her husband, Chang Sung-taek. Sung-taek has been a prominent figure in NK's leadership since Kim Jong-Il's stroke in 2008, and Kim Kyong-hui is a high-ranking general with considerable sway. Were they to stage a coup, the situation would likely remain rather stable with few ramifications for South Korea.
A less likely but scarier situation involves China. The Chinese are largely tired of dealing with North Korea, and Korea as a whole. They may make a move to establish power in North Korea. The Chinese already have a great deal of sway in NK due to them being North Korea's only real supporter. They may manipulate the situation there to consolidate more influence and reign in the North Korean rogue state. While this would be good for the Chinese, it would scare us here in the United States. While I doubt it would come to open conflict, posturing would be made over the issue of Taiwan. The US would likely arm Taiwan, citing a Chinese power grab in NK as grounds to prepare for one in Taiwan.
The Russians also have a vested interest in the developments in North Korea, because they are a buyer of arms and military technology (particularly of the nuclear sort). They do not want that market to collapse, so they would likely maneuver to prevent instability in NK.
The South Koreans are the most important actor here. SK wants to retake the region, but they know this would anger the Chinese, Japanese, and US (though they are SK's allies, Japan and the US care more about relations with China than they do about the reunification of Korea). Any action by South Korea to destabilize North Korea will likely result in a swift response from North Korea. NK's leaders know that the best way to consolidate power would be to head North Korea in a military conflict against South Korea. SK also knows this, and they also realize the ramifications any action would entail.
My department, though not all of my agency is in accord, does not see the situation as regionally destabilizing. Internal conflict will, as we see it, be the only outcome. All others will watch closely and carefully, and this will be used as a bargaining chip in the next few weeks -- I guarantee there will be a UN Security Council meeting over this and Russia, China, and the US will debate the issue.
I would not worry too much. If anything, the situation in North Korea is no more unpredictable than it was before Kim Jong-Il's death.
EDIT: to address what a few others have said, there will be no reunification -- at least not presently. This may be the beginning of the end, but the North Koreans will not peacefully reunify with South Korea and vice versa. Any violent reunification is highly unlikely because other (and much more powerful) actors in the international scene want to prevent that.
EDIT 2: I'm not using the same computer, and I didn't say anything sensitive; people from international security organizations probably don't care and likely doubt my credibility (I would as well). This is all common knowledge by now, anyway. Second, most agencies wouldn't actually have any monitoring tools, because they don't know anything about cybersecurity. Mine, however, does, but that's not really that important.

N koreans are brainwashed like non others.. try being under the control of most suppressive dictator x2 (Kim il sung and Kim jong il) for over 60 years... constantly brainwashed and reminded that the great leader grants them prosperity and happiness.. (they probably don't even know what they are)..

With Kim dying and his son taking over, which is said to be just like his old man, hopefully not much will change too drastically. S.Korean gov didn't expect Kim to die so suddenly... but they were aware of his failing health. If both Korea is to be united, the S.Korea govt has to be ready to put endless funds and resources to N.Korea.. (much like Germany but worse..).

Countries like China, Russia, Japan, and even US don't want South and North uniting for many different reasons. US would rather send their troops to N Korea because of overwhelming numbers of soldiers returning back from Iraq and Afghan and are with no jobs. China is secretly mining all the raw materials from N.Korea and Japan is just so anal about Korea uniting as whole, because they don't want Korea to get too powerful..

Anyways.. Kim's funeral is expected to go on for 13 days countrywide.. and they aren't faking it when they mourn for his death. :okay:

Edit: I just read the post above.. I agree 100%.. good read.

Kim's 11-ace debut round recalled on Twitter - Yahoo! News (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/kims-11-ace-debut-round-recalled-twitter-191948700.html)

:lol

"..North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il's death was noted on Twitter as an epic loss to golf, with hundreds recalling the Stalinist state media's reports of Kim's 11 holes-in-one in a single round in 1994.

Reports hailed Kim's 38-under par 34 over 18 holes at the 7,700-yard Pyongyang Golf Course in his first try at golf, a feat watched purportedly by 17 security guards protecting the man hailed as "Dear Leader."

Kim, who died on Saturday of a heart attack at age 69, was 52 at the time he purportedly fired a round where birdie was his worst score on any hole.

Twitter skeptics wondered whether or not Kim might have tried to surpass such stars as Tiger Woods or reigning World No. 1 Luke Donald of England had he truly gone 21 strokes below best score from a US PGA golfer.

"Look at it this way: With Kim Jong Il dying, everybody will be moving up one spot in the World Golf Rankings," noted Dan Daly in a Twitter posting.

Others pondered the golf showdowns that never happened.

"Kim Jong-il's passing means LukeDonald is now indisputably golf's world no.1," Tweeted John Mackay. "Congrats Luke. Just a shame it wasn't settled on the course."

"Golf world mourns the passing of the prodigious world leader never to win a major," Tweeted Shaun Hinds.

Even Paddy Power tweeted that "The world has lost a golfing legend, we're 1,000,000/1 for any PGA player to beat Kim Jong Il's record round of 38 under."

Some saw hope for Kim from beyond the grave, Rick Reilly posting, "Just in from North Korean state news agency: Kim Jong Il's corpse shoots 54, incl 6 aces."

Nick Howell pondered what might have been, saying his record round "Could've been even better if his ball hadn't stuck under the windmill on the eleventh."

Alistair Barrie was shocked there was not more mention on golf websites, noting, "No one seems remotely concerned that the world's greatest golfer has died."

"With passing of Kim Jong Il, sports world may have lost greatest golfer of all time," tweeted HuffPost Sports.

"The golf world mourns the loss of Kim Jong-Il. Routinely scored 3 or 4 aces every round according to state run media, so it must be true," wrote Len Berman.

Ray Ratto had his suspicions, tweeting "don't fully buy this Kim Jong-Il golf story. Surely the Callaway people would have sent him a hat, a shoulder patch or something."

In a timely post with Christmas approaching, Chris Scoular said, "The North Korean equivalent of finding out Santa isnt real must be finding out Kim Jong Il didnt invent the hamburger or shoot a 38 in golf."

korean girls r hot, there are lots of potentially hot looking north koreans if only they adapt the south korean life style...

this shows how brainwashed north koreans are, if there were to make some sort of unification, dont expect it all to happen in a matter of 20 years, there are generations and generation of north koreans that grew up to the socialist system and live in content

A video of a pretty Korean girl heaping praise on the socialist system of the DPRK has gone viral in recent months. Her message is clear: life in her country is a socialist paradise, while in West poverty and chaos are rampant. The young woman, Pak Jin Jun, introduces herself as a student at Pyongyang Teacher's University. Throughout the video, Pak's voiceover praises the Korean socialist system, which guarantees a life of happiness and serenity to all of its residents. Jubilant scenes depict the whole family clapping their hands and singing. A far cry, she tells us, from the misery of the capitalist world that conspires against the great Kim Jong-Il, and where the people kill themselves and die of hunger.

Some interesting "facts" about Kim Jong Il, along with some actual facts that don't require "quotes" :)

“Fact” 1 : He had a “supernatural” birth – According to North Korean historical literature, Kim Jong-il was born in a log cabin inside a secret base on Korea’s most sacred mountain, Mt. Paekdu. At the moment of his birth, a bright star lit up the sky, the seasons spontaneously changed from winter to spring, and rainbows appeared. This contradicts way less interesting Western accounts of his birth, which state the dictator was born in a guerrilla camp in Russia, while his father was on the run from the Japanese. As he grew older, the rumor spread that his mood could control the weather. As you might imagine, North Korean textbooks are very Kim-centric. School children were taught that Kim does not produce urine or feces like a regular human. He transcends that.

“Fact” 2: He was loved the world over – According to the state run North Korean media, Kim Jong-il was the most prominent statesman in the world, and people in countries the whole planet over celebrate his birthday with films and festivals. In reality, most nations were confused and annoyed by his erratic foreign policy decisions on important issues such as N. Korea’s nuclear program.

“Fact” 3: He was the best natural golfer in history – In 1994 news organizations in Pyongyang reported on the opening of the first ever golf course in the communist nation of North Korea. “Dear Leader”, as he enjoyed being called, had never played before but he wanted to give it a try. Turns out he was by far the best natural golfer ever known to human-kind. He reportedly shot 38 under par on the regulation 18 hole golf course. That is 25 shots better than the best round in history. Oh, did I mention that his score included no fewer than 5 holes in one? It did. All seventeen of his bodyguards who witnessed the event swear to the authenticity of this story.

“Fact” 4: He invented the hamburger – Any influences from American society have long ago been banned in North Korea. This let Mr. Kim free to invent all kinds of “new” items and claim them as his own. One of his more popular ideas was a food item that he called the “double bread and meat”. On this side of reality we call it a hamburger. He said he developed this “meat on a bun” sandwich to ensure quality nutrition to university students. There is still no word on if he had a hand in the development of beer, or as he might have called it “carbonated amber inhibition reducing fluid”.

From the just crazy enough to be true files: The following items are true. You can’t say Mr. Kim didn’t live large.

Fact 5: He once kidnapped a prominent director to film a Godzilla movie for him – True. Shin Sang-ok, a South Korean filmmaker, was kidnapped under the orders of Kim Jong-il, sent to prison, and eventually forced to make a film called Pulgasari that was basically a communist propaganda version of Godzilla. By all accounts the film was terrible, but Kim loved it, and wanted to make a sequel. In 1986, he began working on a deal with an Austrian film company to distribute that film, and took Shin to go meet with them in Vienna. In Vienna, he managed to escape, and, after a taxi chase with some of Kim’s bodyguards, Shin found safety in the American embassy. He later made his way to the United States where he made a movie staring Hulk Hogan and Jim Varney.

Fact 6: He had disabled and short people deported from his capital – In preparation for the World Festival of Youth and Students in 1989, Kim Jong- il had disabled residents removed from Pyongyang. Mr. Kim was at most 5′ 3″ tall even with platform shoes and bouffant hair. He hated his short stature and disliked short people in general. He had governmental officials distribute pamphlets advertising a wonder drug that would increase the height of short people. Those who responded to the pamphlets were sent away to different uninhabited islands along with the disabled in an attempt to rid the next generation of their supposedly substandard genes.

Fact 7: At one time Kim was the world’s biggest buyer of Hennessy – True. Back in the early 1990′s Hennessy, the makers of fine cognac, stated that indeed Kim Jong- il was it’s best customer, spending about $600,000 to $850,000 annually on the liquor. He was partial to the Paradis cognac, which can sell for over $700 per bottle. In comparison, the average North Korean makes about $1000 per year.

Fact 8: He built a city that was made just to be looked at - This is true. The city of Kijong-Dong is very real, but it isn’t exactly a typical city. It is a propaganda city that was originally built in the 1950s by Kim Jong-il’s father right on the border between the two Koreas, this was to display the North’s superiority to the South and also to encourage people to defect. The city has no actual residents, but an extensive effort has been put forth to simulate a functioning city, including lights on set timers, and street sweepers to create an illusion of activity. Surveillance has revealed that the units lack window glass, and some buildings are just concrete shells that don’t even have interior rooms. The city also houses the world’s largest flagpole, complete with a 300lb. North Korean flag.

It happens all the time. NK takes it to the extreme, but in Thailand, they have a King. That King is loved by everyone and it seemed like once a week the entire population wore either a blue or yellow t-shirt to celebrate and honor either the king, or his wife.

So you say, well thats fine. Royalty is ceremonial, so who cares. Well, the King exerts a lot more 'control' than would ever be admitted.

But he can do no wrong.

my grandfather live through the civil war in china and the cultural revolution. He was a son of a landlord which goes completely against mao's idealogy. He join the communist army anyways. After the war is won the communist government than turn completely against him. His family's property were taken away and my grandfather was sent to rural china to be punish for being a landlord's son and for being educated. Some of his children were sent to the farm with him and the rest that stay in the city were forbidden to go to school. When his children grew up and join the police force they were force to severe tie with my grandfather in order to keep their job and/or get a promotion.

despite all that my grandfather was fiercely loyal to the communist party till his dying day. He even pass away on the same day as deng xiao ping. Witness say he collaspe and had a heart attack upon reading the newspaper...

it is hard to comprehend the power of propaganda and brainwashing until you have live through it. To my grandfather communism is THE way of life and the words of its leader is the gospel just like how we can not comprehend living in a non capitalistic society. My grandpa went to the states only one time in his life, he won a small jackpot from the slot machine and procceed to gave all the money away to his co workers and donate his own share the the communist party.

his children are not so much in love with communist... The difference being they grew up in china went through brainwash than suddenly china open up to the west and they are able to compare and form their own conclusions. With NK being so close off from the rest of the world I'm nkt surprise if almost everybidy there is like my grandpa.

Yes, when a flaw is found or a change is made, then that is what we start to teach. i.e., if we found out that the universe is not expanding, that is what science would then continue to teach.

My point was that the people such as your self who praise science for this attribute, seem offended at any theory that goes against a theory that science currently holds. In other words, science welcomes change, but the people don't.

freakshow was trying to say that it's absurd to assume that something can come from nothing. He was saying (correct me if I'm wrong here, freakshow) that it is far more unlikely that a universe can be created by it self, for no reason, out of nothing.. than it is to say that a man collected 2 of every animal and put them on a boat. (which I also think is absurd) . Out of those two crazy theories, the former is much less likely.

I'll accept all theories as they are. But religion is NOT a theory, it's a story. To follow the morals taught by the bible is fine. To call it a THEORY is not only literally impossible, but asinine.

BTW I apologize for calling freakshow an idiot. Obviously he was trolling, and I don't think all religious people are idiots. I think they are willfully ignorant (although some might argue that's the same thing), but some otherwise very smart people think the earth is 2000 years old, so... I won't be going to them for scientific advice, but otherwise they can be very smart :)

Once Freakshow accepts that the earth is BILLIONS of years old, not THOUSANDS (and this is FACT not a "theory" which can be refuted scientifically) it should be quite easy to accept that evolution can occur during this time. But if you are willfully ignorant of that FACT then yes, I can see evolution not "making sense" in your mind.

FFS I wish people would learn the difference between your run of the mill "theory" and a scientific theory. The Theory of Evolution is something testable, observable within our lifetime, with mountains upon mountains of evidence to back it up. The only change to that theory will be our understanding of the mechanics and nature of this well documented occurrence.

an interesting update that i found in news.

i believe most of you have heard:
kim jong-il wants his son, kim jong-un, to look like kim il-sung.
kim jong-un reportedly went through plastic surgery to look like his grandfather.

kim jong-un (teen):
http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/9T/kim-jong-un-teenager-090710-lg.jpg

kim jong-un (now):
http://o.onionstatic.com/images/articles/article/18374/Kim-Jong-R_jpg_250x1000_q85.jpg

there is another reason:

kim jong-il has a half-brother, kim pyong-il, that looks more like kim il-sung.
jong-il believes the resemblances might bring power struggle, so kim pyong-il is often sent to poland to work as an ambassador. when kim pyong-il is back in north korea, he is on house arrest. according to polish sources, kim pyong-il rarely talks about his family. when a polish reporter mentioned to kim pyong-il that a "thesis on kim il-sung's wives" is being made, kim pyong-il reacts violently and said "this is very dangerous".

kim pyong-il:
http://english.chosun.com/site/data/img_dir/2011/07/01/2011070100410_0.jpg

kim il-sung (old):
http://www.popten.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/kp04_02a.jpg

it's pretty terrifying to see how "resemblances" could put family members in danger and how it persuade people to go through plastic surgery to gain power :fulloffuck:

I remember my teacher tried to explain how unlikely the big bang was without some help from God. Telling us doesn't it seem possible without a helping hand. Basically that the wonders of life are not possible without God.

This is just the script the powerful in society run to misguide those who are uninformed. Its been said a million times before in some form, but religion is practiced by the weak minded yet preached by the intelligent. Its like telling your kids to behave otherwise santa will jot you down on the naughty list

Who knows if there is a god or not, but this supernatural being would not want to be acknowledged in the fashion that it is today by the varying religious groups

dub.g, i was about to post the crossing the line videos. you beat me to it hah.
nevertheless those are great videos to watch.

mentioning american soldiers who deflected to north korea, there are actually couple of south koreans that deflected to north korea lol.

prime example:
Oh Kil-nam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh_Kil-nam)

this guy has been discussed in korean forum, branding him as a "dumbf**k" and "traitor".

another one i heard from the news two years ago, a north-korean sympathizer from south korea, went to the north korea border through DMZ and surrendered himself. he said he was proud of his decision and can't stand the south korean capitalism. i hope he is not dead now lol.

during the holidays i read a great novel about north korea's life.

barbara demick's "nothing to envy: real life in north korea".

you can borrow an "internet version/ebook" from the richmond public library.

http://www.skyscanner.net/news/nothing.to.envy.jpg

i really recommend y'all to read it.
it gives you strong insights of how people survive in korea, their "ruthless selfish" culture, and the sadness of north korean deflectors' culture shock in south korea.
