My brother and his family are on the 12:15 from Horseshoe bay to Nanaimo and it hit the dock. They don't know when they will be able to get out.

your title is quite misleading, i thought a ferry impacted a dock and passengers are stuck in between the dock and the ferry somehow....=.=

UPDATED: BC Ferries Coastal Inspiration suffers hard landing at Duke Point
Peter Meiszner, Global News : Tuesday, December 20, 2011 6:40 PM
BC Ferries vessel MV Coastal Inspiration experienced a hard landing at the Duke Point Ferry Terminal Tuesday afternoon.
The ferry corporation confirmed the hard landing at the terminal located south of Nanaimo.
The vessel was re-directed to Departure Bay in order to allow the vehicles to offload. Foot passengers were offloaded at the Duke Point terminal.
BC Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall confirmed to Global News that the ramp and one of the doors on the vessel sustained significant damage.
Marshall said the Duke Point terminal sustained considerable damage and will be closed indefinitely until BC Ferries facilitates repairs. In the meantime, service will be operated out of Departure Bay terminal.
“What it means to customers is anybody leaving the Nanaimo area or coming to the Nanaimo area will be using our Departure Bay terminal,” said Marshall. “So we will have service going from Departure Bay to both Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay.”
It is still not clear what caused the vessel to hard land. Passenger Angela Smith e-mailed the newsroom from the ferry. She said the captain gave a warning of “Hold on!” before two impacts she described as moderate.
Marshall confirmed a passenger and crew member were injured in the incident and are said to be suffering from "soft tissue injuries” that are not considered to be significant.
BC Ferries last experienced a "hard landing" on its Queen of Coquitlam vessel while docking at Departure Bay last month.

Electrical failure caused Duke Point ferry crash

BC Ferries say the Duke Point ferry terminal is going to be out of service "for months" after the vessel Coastal Inspiration came in for a crash landing yesterday afternoon.
BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall says an "electronic failure in a control system" was the cause of the accident.
She adds, “the terminal was heavily damaged, the berthing structure sustained damage, the ramp was actually pushed forward, we also need to look at the tower abutment, so there is quite a bit of repair that needs to be done."
She also says about a dozen people suffered minor injuries.
There are no reports of onboard vehicles being damaged.
