The test drive route wasn't very long either, according to Google Maps it was 2 minutes.

I'm assuming STi's come stock with summer tires. Do dealerships let ppl test drive cars with summer tires when there's snow on the road?

those look like winter tires. Subaru's normally won't let people test drive STI anyways. The two dealership i been to said NO to me
so.... if that happens...
does the guy whose test driving it, have to pay? :/
how does this work?

You bet, one of the salesperson at Subaru Calgary started a thread on WSC.
It's a bad day when the Test Drive ends like this... (http://www.westernsubaruclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=26156.0)

It's all in how you carry yourself and what you drive in to a dealership. Also, doesn't hurt to bring a pay stub with you.

I test drove an STI in kelowna, salesman even let me go alone with my friend and gf. Things are different up there, most dealerships let you drive almost any car you want :bigthumb:

Re: It's a bad day when the Test Drive ends like this...
« Reply #38 on: December 19, 2011, 11:37:50 PM »This is Drew Bell from Subaru Calgary, soon to be ex-sales associate. But no not because I was driving or riding in this car! My last day is the 23rd which means I'll finally have more time to be on the forums!
This is the unfortunate result of a 3 days new on the job associate agreeing to go on a test drive in the 09 STI without checking with management. Yes those are summer tires, and unfortunately they chose the slipperiest corner in our area to approach at 50 k...
Everyone was ok except for the scooby, which impressively is not leaking any fluids. No sure at this point what repairs are necessary or if it's a write off. Big question was how to get it off the rock... I will try to updat as I know more. Those who were interested in this car, I get you best price!!! (but in all seriousness this will be on the carproof, and if it is repaired it will be fully repaired and recertified through insurance)
So next time you take a test drive and someone says sign here for the deductible, let me see your licence, and I'm driving first to show you how the car handles you'll all realize why!
I probably shouldn't have posted these... But could not resist!

This.
If you show up in your kitted out 240 with a fart can wearing ripped jeans and a beater chances are you're not getting a ride
Show up in your rents boring car, wearing at least decent clothes and dont act like a douche it's a different story.

Pffft, that'll buff out.
Subarus are tanks. When they do break, it's usually 8 bolts to put a new part on and they're good as new.

I owned an 09 STI and the 1st time I drove it was off the lot. Even with a deposit down and a salesman in the car they wouldn't let me take it out.
Never doing that again, what a boring car.

Ya absolutely. I drove a newer version at track a while ago, it was better, but I believe it had quite a bit of suspension work done to it.
It is what it is, a family mover with a mother fucker engine. The brakes are good for a giggle but the rest of the car is mundane. You get over the speed quickly.
However, I'm not most consumers, my preference leans towards a precise, agile, fun ride than a lopey people mover.

ps it ate gas like it secretly bathed in it over night.

I'd tell them to eat a dick. I get not wanting to have test pilots, but there is so many little things about a car that can sway opinion. For me...fit being huge. A car can look great on paper, but just doesn't feel right.
Sample dialogue, " sorry, we can"t allow you to actually drive the car, but you can look at it"
"Cool! Well I can't actually let you sell me a car, but you can look at me-leave."
Just that easy.

I test drove a used '08 STI from Richmond Subaru before I purchased my '09 private party.
The salesman kept egging me on to push the vehicle through corners at quite an aggressive speed in spite of the car having completely bald summer tires on it. That being said, I was impressed with the car's ability to hold in corners.
Vancouver240sx, it's a shame you found the car boring. Out of the box the car is a bit soft in stock form, however, an AP and suspension work have sharpened up the car considerably and made it a fantastic car to own in all weather conditions.
As for fuel consumption, you gotta pay to play. Turbocharged full-time AWD vehicles aren't going to be fuel misers.
Too bad about that Subie test drive. Fortunately, these cars are outright tanks and that damage appears to be mainly cosmetic.

I was actually able to test drive a brand new 2010 WRX before I ordered one in a different color. Went in previously to look at some stuff, didn't really ask for a test drive at the time because i was not sure yet. Made up my mind later on, called to arrange a test drive, and got to drive one of the first 2010s at that time. Had to take off all the plastic covers and stuff before even testing it.
So i'd say it's possible, but indeed if you come across as a punk kid, the chances will be slim.
