Netbook: Installed Win 7, BIOS Upgrade Needed?

i have a eee pc 1000 with Win 7 x86 upgraded (custom OS that's lite ~2.75GB fresh install)

my function buttons are not working (except for screen brightness)..neither are the profile/screen off/scree resolution toggle buttons.

My ACPI drivers are dated. I look around online and it says I should install a hotkey service utility for the Eee PC 1005 to get the function keys working on win 7. I get the error that ACPI drivers are not installed and that touchpad drivers are missing so i uninstalled that.

All the resources online points me to download the ACPI drivers from Asus FTP servers as they are no longer under my product's support page...but even I can't access the FTP server no longer.

I noticed my BIOS is outdated...I am curious to know if updating it will help my case at all? It's sort of last resort for me seeing so many widespread reports of people bricking their netbooks/laptops after bios upgrade.

already wasted many hours trying to get this shit to work..agh! thanks.

yes
right now it's just kind of a trial and error...some i just have to use XP drivers...some win 7..which i hate because sometimes it leaves residual crap even after a complete uninstall of the drivers that dont work out.

Did you search on google whether there is any success story eee pc 1000 running Win 7? That would probably be a good pointer on all the drivers you need to get for Win 7. Is this 64-bit?

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

this is before SP1 came out but i sold my 1000H with W7 pro on it and all buttons working. i got the ACPI drivers from a certain blog that hosted them on file-sharing sites. pretty sure you'll have more luck asking on EEEuser than here.
