Best food in Richmond
I'm a little embarrassed to say this but I don't know that many food places in Richmond that are very good. It seems as if every place I've been to is pretty average and nothing that is great.
So please share with me (and the rest of RS) your favourite food joints in Richmond and why!

You shitting? Tropika, Matsuyama, Silver tower and Norhtern Dynasty? What the fuck has this food thread gone to....:heckno:
matsuyama is indeed pretty bad.
went there for late night, it was on par with the viet sushi joints (beef tataki was good thats it)
try kiriri sushi or master hungs (chinese bbq) both at blundell and garden, tandoori kona at 5 and cambie, or one of the billion other canto joints that will be mentioned all over this thread.

either are pretty bad choices unless ur poor. the rolls and nigiri are so sloppily made its shameful. id rather eat something else if those are ur choices. but yeah agree, sushi hachi, kiriri and seto are gems if u have the money.

matsuyama - WORST place ever don't go.. rahter eat mcds.
- Top Shanghai is pretty solid..

- HK BBQ Master
- Chicken Wings from uhh something Dessert in Aberdeen I think 2 stalls from to the right of Vera's Burger...
- Bubble Fruity the place is similar to Hui Lau Shan (HK) but not quite the same.. still pretty good.
- Deer Garden is pretty good noodle house.. the side chicken wings hit the spot and there lemon ice tea is super sweet.. as sweet if not sweeter then Vita lemon ice tea.

Ever tried amiga? I love their spiced tomato macau chicken.
I like the bbq duck in parker place, char siu isn't bad either!

For cheap food I usually just head to aberdeen food court, and get hainanese chicken from cafe delite. My friend says its decent but there are better. I honestly thought it was the best i've had so far, especially since people recommended prata man and it was trash. I tried the malysian place at steveston village and it was average at best.

Kisamos is good... get the youvetsi, almost as good as home made.
I usually go to bob's sub for breakfast, or when im feeling creative... this

I've probably tried every cha cha ting in richmond and honestly they are all the same, with some slight variations that some places do drinks better or certain dishes slightly better.

If you like southeast Asian flavors, there are a number of smaller gourmet joints (not any in Richmond that I know of, unfortunately) that are all much better than Tropika. Once you've tried authentic, non-cookie cutter southeast Asian food, then there's no going back to Tropika.
That's just my opinion anyways.

Buffet food no matter how good cannot compare to freshly cooked served in front of you.

keep in mind most restaurant food is not fresh anyway, just freshly put together.

(bridgeport) it deserves way more credibility. the portions are more than fair, i usually order the 1/2 chicken meal which comes with "6 bowls of rice" and itll be more than enough to fill 2 people all for like a little over $10 (i remember...)

actually, u can find way better hainanese chicken elsewhere. The chicken from there is kinda gross. They use fat chicken and theres so much "jello" in between the skin and the meat which is gross (i'm talking about thick layers of jello). That place needs a new renovation cause who knows how they prep their food since the resturant is so old.

A few of my favourites:
Ichiro Sushi in Steveston village - Can get very busy at dinner hour. Best to make a reservation.
Steveston Pizza - Good, filling pizza with some very interesting types. Unfortunately, they do not sell by the slice and have very limited eat-in space.
Pho Lan - I don't have a very developed taste for Pho, but I enjoy this place a lot. Also can get very busy. Honestly, the place kind smells/feels dirty. However, the broth is flavourful enough and their spring rolls are some of the best I've sampled.
Nan Chuu - Basically G-Men ramen now. I kind of miss Nan-Chuu's old izakaya menu, but I also enjoy a decent bowl of ramen. Staff are friendly and atmosphere is decent.
Koto - Open really late, the main reason to go here. If you are hungry past 12am it's one of the few places in Richmond you can go and grab a bite.
Taco Luis - Good lunch snack. Have the 12" special for $7. You'll be full and happy. Unfortunately, Luis isn't at the Lansdowne location anymore to shoot the shit with, but the food is still good and filling.

Didn't want to create a new thread for this but BECAUSE we are on the subject of food in Richmond and BECAUSE Richmond is full of Chinese cafes, does anyone know where I can buy the chicken filets (at a grocery store) that are used when you order the chicken steak at those chinese cafes?
Not exactly sure what part of the chicken it is but I'm guessing it's the de-boned thigh with the skin left on. Regardless, all of the chicken cutlets/filets at any restaurant are the same, whether it be from 1+1 Enjoy, Kingspark, Redhouse, etc...

Both LA Chicken and BBQ Master are on my list of top 10 meals to have after I get out of prison.
I've been a patron of LA Chicken for 22 years and I make it a point to stop there at least every 2nd time I'm in town. Ask for the crispy stuff and, if you like, ask for the rice. My brother and I are such regulars we get free chicken all the time, we gave her chocolate for Xmas and she took pictures of my brother's kid when he brought him in.

but their service really lacks....not that i expected anything but once the waiter/tress drops off your food and bill, thats all you'll ever see of them.

The Pho in richmond kinda sucks ! nothing compared to Vancouver or Surrey Pho.

For BBT, I've only ever been to Bubbleworld, Pearl Castle, Tapioca Express, What8ver Cafe, FloTeaRoom, Twinkle 2, Totoro, The One (Vancouver), and this other place near E-Spot.
They're all pretty ehhh for me, but What8ver is the best since they have those crystal pearls.. :sweetjesus: Lineups are long though..

My favorite pho joint in richmond is Pho Queen. Its in the same complex as richmond sushi. I think its probably the best pho richmond has to offer

Park on the street instead, always a few spots as everyone parks in the mall.
I haven't tried this place, as I always go to the other Pho place in the same complex. I think it's called Pho Tai Hoa.

Decent BBT style fare with good prices by richmond standards, inside is definitely meh and the place is small

tried LA chicken for my 1st time in the 10 years i've been living in richmond. Its all about the hype LOL. It aint even that good.I ordered "spicy" too. I would rate it at 6/10 the best. Its on the pricy side too, i ordered the 2 piece chicken snack meal which came with fries. Total came to $7.83 after tax.
BTW, this guy ordered before me (15 pieces) and the lady cashier told him "no tax" so when i paid, i asked her if i order more would i be eligible for no tax also and she replied me saying those chicken she sold him were "left overs" (not sure if BSing me or what) and kept telling me how if its "left overs" they are legally to charge no tax. The guy bought 15 pieces and it came to $10.80. Has anyone ordered leftover chicken from there before?
Maybe she thought i was a tax auditor from revenue Canada LOL :suspicious:

You guys should check out "Pho Han" on capstan way and Garden city (same mall as Manzo jap resturant) ! The place looks ghetto from outside but the stuff is pretty good. After 6 pm, its 15% off so i go there after work for cheap eats LOL

my picks off the top of my head:
Pho
Pho Han - I enjoy Pho Han too. The pho itself is okay, but I especially like their cheap subs ($3). This is beside Manzo Itamae (also a very good restaurant) at Garden City and Capstan.
Lemongrass - Good pho and friendly service (although slow sometimes)
Thai Son - probably the cleanest atmosphere for Pho in Richmond. Almost always busy and their food quality is good but not the best out there.
Curry
Mui Garden - Never get the small order to go though, it's literally just rice, beef, and sauce. Not a single vegetable, not even a potato.
Aberdeen food court one is good too.
Dim Sum
Gingeri (@ Lansdowne) - try their deep fried wonton :sweetjesus:
Kirin (@ Richmond Centre, CIBC section) - Best service and quality in town if you ask me. A little pricier for certain items.
Fisherman's Terrace (@ London Drugs on No.3 Rd) - Good quality food, check out their specials at the top of the dim sum menu.
BBQ Pork
BBQ Master (@ Superstore) - Always consistent quality, rather small though.
Master Hung's (@ Garden City/Blundell) - Always consistent as well. Check out their lunch specials (meal + drink or soup for like $7).
BBQ place @ Parker Place - I honestly think their BBQ duck is the best, also very large portions.
HK Style Cafes
Lido (mall in between Parker and Aberdeen) - You MUST try their Egg tarts. Seriously best in town, probably best in province. Atmosphere is a bit old but people go there for the food, not the surroundings. Food is pricier than you might expect.
Kam Ho (across from Sun Sui Wah on Alexandra Rd) - This is now my fav place for Beef Brisket on noodles. Before Yee Yuen (No.3 rd mall where Staples is) changed chefs, I went there but that's all changed of course.
Japanese
I don't eat a lot of this in Richmond but Manzo Izakaya, Manzo Itamae and Sushi Hachi are all good choices.

Quite a few of you recommended Deer Garden. I went to their website and they have 2 locations, is there a preference as to which one is better? The Sexsmith or Alexandra branch? Or are they pretty much the same?

I would recommend you go to the one on Sexsmith road beside Posh. Parking is a bitch at the Alexandra location.

Just finished eating at Deer Garden, very generous with the toppings for the noodles and the soup was flavourful! Curry was smooth and creamy. Service was horrible though, as someone mentioned earlier, no one there smiled at all. When I asked the waitress for an extra napkin her expression gave me the impression that I had just asked her to give a cow an enema. I was hesitant to ask her for anything else as she looked like he wanted to roundhouse kick me if I requested anything else... Shitty service... but food was good and portions were big.
