I'm in the market for a Herman Miller office chair. I was told that there are often good deals when Corporate close down their office or something. Anyone know where to find one of those sale locally?

Personally I hate this chair. We use this model at work and while the ability to adjust it to your desire is awesome I find the comfort level to be poor but that's just me.

I bought 1 Aeron and 2 Mirra chairs from Workplace Resource.
They typically sell large quantities at a time to large companies, but they do sell to individuals if you ask nicely.

Talk to Janet Cunningham, she gave me a good deal on 3 fully loaded versions.
The chairs were shipped to my doorstep, brand new from factory (in a box and sealed).

Aeron seems way too expensive for me. I notice the Mirra is more (relative) affordable. How does the Mirra compare to the Aeron? I know you get what you pay for, but should the Mirra suffice?

I love the lumbar support on the Aeron, it's so sweet.
The tabs/knobs are very pleasing to look at on the Aeron (not as nice on the Mirra).

I use the Mirra myself, so when I sit on the Aeron, it doesn't feel as comfortable.
I'm sure if I adjust the Aeron to my specifications, it would be just as comfortable.

My office has Aerons everywhere... one for each workstation, and even work stools in the lounge, and stationary versions for the meeting rooms. I don't actually like them that much though... I prefer a good cushy office chair.

areons are not designed to be comfortable. they are designed as ergonomical office tasks chairs. you can work in an aeron chair for 14 hours with minimal body strain and circulation issues. its shown that an aeron chair can increase productivity for workers whereas a comfy chair would not.

There are 3 Herman Miller chairs, each designed for a different purpose.

The Aeron is the task chair. Meant to sit straight up in front of a terminal for a long time.

The Mirra is mostly task chair, part lounge chair. The back is flexible and the chair has no hard edges like the Aeron, so you can turn around and chat with your coworkers in a variety of creative positions.

The Embody is "the" executive chair. Meant to lean back and broker deals on the phone. It has a spine that forms to your body, and a tension system that hugs your body. It moves with you as you lean back or turn to order your servants around. The seat moves independently of the back as you lean.

My Mirra chair is very comfortable and has tons of adjustments for all body sizes. I do wish I spent the extra for the Embody chair yet the $1300 price tag scared me off. If I ever see one for sale used I'm grabbing it.

aerons are far from uncomfortable.. instead, they're saying it's not soft and cuddly, which is true because it's made of mesh. OTOH, i did all my work in a slouch position. It felt like a hammock.

you'll be preoccupied by how ergonomic it is if you're sitting in one day after day for the whole day.

I was on the market for a new "higher-end" office chair around December as a Christmas gift to myself since I get to work from home.

I tried out:
- Humanscale Freedom
- Herman Miller Aeron, Mirra, and Embody
- Steelcase Amia and Leap

After trying them all, I decided to go with the Leap due to the amount of adjustments available. Best to try them all out and decide which one, then try and find used ones. Although the Steelcase and Humanscale chairs are tough to find used.
