I can see that there's quite a bit of people working in the industry sifting through this forum. Their posts have been informative and helpful (you know who you are ;)) And for those who shared pics of your DIY projects--thank you for sharing and building up this forum. No pun intended :P

By no means am I an expert, but I do enjoy trying. Plus, I save myself some money.
Anyways the latest install has been this programmable thermostat. I was pissing in my pants because I took a gamble with it possibly not working. With the help of the internet researching and googling honeywell, I managed to do it. I'm sure there may be some things I missed, but the experts on here can help me :D

I followed my instinct and plugged the White wire in the W and the blue wire in the R's (there's a jumper that joins the two).

So far my furnace is working, so I'm happy. I've got to read up on how to program it though. I can adjust it to save more energy costs. Thoughts?

adjust temp to be lower when not home, comfortable when at home and awake, and back down to a degree or 2 lower when sleeping (the slightly cooler temp actually makes for better sleeps)

if u have multiple zones, u can always adjust the zones u are rarely in to be slightly lower temp. if cold, there are the quick temp adjusts right there.

do you guys know how to make this for zones like SG is saying?

It would be cool if I can heat the living room from 6p-8p and bedrooms only from 9p-10p. I wonder if it's even possible.

I believe the zones would have to be set up at the time when your furnance was first installed.

how many thermostats do u have in your house?

each thermostat = a zone.

in my place, i got 3 zones, upstairs, upstairs bedrooms, downstairs. there is a thermostat in each one of these zones.

you can not add zones later unless you make the furnace run independently from another room.

Some newer houses have different zones per room which is real handy to keep costs low, make sure when you buy a programmable thermostat you buy one with 3-4 time settings like sg said you can have the lowest temp when your at work thus lowering the bill by quite a bit

I'll take that one just because it looks cool.

I'm a few stages behind actually being able to put in programmable thermostats. My building re-defines the term "analog", as to control the temp in the individual apartments, you need to turn the knob on the radiator.

Oh, but mostly you can't because those knobs are 50 years old and they are broken. I can't replace the knobs because the parts aren't made by anyone.

Can't wait to see the size of the bill when we tackle that problem ;)

I only have one. So no zone control or anything. And yea you can get it at home depot.

I've programmed it like !SG said to change temperature throughout the day and night. E.g. wake up, leave, return back. So far, so good..
