Ok..So I just bought a ps3 game at best buy, go home, open it and its empty. When I go exchange it tomorrow are they going to be dicks and say I'm lying?

I would say go back to the store ASAP or at least give them a call and fill them in.

If you wait a day they will probably give you a hard time. Put yourself in their shoes, a guy comes back the next day and says his game is empty.

Good luck op!

Shitty.

I get weird looks sometimes when I have to return renovation stuff. Open it up and its cracked, or chipped, or parts missing.

My first thought walking in is "they are going to think I did it."

My second thought is, "try something. See the stink I'll make."

^they closed at 6.

tried calling but no go. The package was slightly opened already so I'm guessing an employee stole the disc. I never held it cause it was from the cage and the front desk just grabbed it and put it in the bag and off I went..

Ah that sucks. Give them a call in the morning and let them know the packaging was open. Internal theft isn't uncommon so hopefully the manager sides with you

^Luckily for you it's bestbuy and they are lenient on such things especially for something as small as a videogame.

I'd probably start off with, "I kno how this looks but I swear on...."?

Scammers probably brought the game home, took out the disc, sealed it back up with shrink wrap and then returned it to the store. They then prob sold just the disc on craiqslist or kept the game themselves.

If you bought it on a credit card, the card may have theft insurance. This may be covered under that policy

not the employee.
a thief. My buddy who works at FS told me guys do this all the time.
They'll buy the game (to get it out of the protective box) and then make a slit and return it. They'll put the game back on the shelve and sell it.

Are the rest of the manuals/codes in there? Not sure how that would come into play...

Call BB, ask to speak to store manager, explain exactly what happened and ask him/her to advise on the situation. Put the ball in their court.

:seriously:

I lol'd. Did the game not come in the plastic covering? :suspicious:

The FS I work at has some games in the "security" box, but all other games are always covered in plastic and lying on the shelves :lol

Don't you guys grab a card.. then go pay? Then they grab you a fresh copy with the wrapper? Rarely do I see the protective box casing anymore.

it would be less suspicious if you exchanging it for the same game...if you refund, then they may have a harder time believing you

best of luck OP!

That's what EB does. You bring the box of the game you want to buy to the cashier and they find the game and put it in the box, seal it for you.

They may be more inclined to believe you if just want a new copy. If you are asking for your money back...you may be fucked.

If you just want a new copy and they are giving you a hard time, ask them what they think you are getting out of the deal.

Phone or go in first thing...be honest and sincere.

it's happened to me before..
I bought a game at EB in Vernon.. drove back to Vancouver and opened it and it was empty.. right before that one of my buddies was like.. "wouldn't it be funny if there was no game inside?". Turns out there wasn't a game inside.. I called the EB and told them what happened and they checked and realised that they had forgot to put the game inside the case.. They just told me to go pick it up at the closest EB.. they would call and straighten it out with them...

It was a PC game.. not a PS3 game.. so I could see how they would make that mistake since they don't keep the game inside the boxes..
Might be a little tougher with PS3 games since they're sealed..
best of luck to you..

Our local Best Buys have experienced this same issue a few times this New Year already. Hopefully they're equipped to protect the honest, paying customer by this point. Some thieves had been buying iPad's and taking them out, filling the boxes up with cement and then shrink wrapping them up again. Now, every iPad that gets returned brand new, has to be opened to make sure it's in there; basically making it an open box...

thats some crazy stuff, filling it with cement!
Anyways, this situation really does suck and I've never heard of it before but am very curious to hear how it ends up. Hopefully it all works out.

Yup. This happened to me. Bought an ipad2 online from Staples with stackable coupons (thanks RS!) but decided to return it and buy a used one from Senna. I never opened the package/cut the shrink wrap. At the return counter, the manager told the clerk to open the box to check. I was like wtf but okay sure. You do what you need to do to give me my refund.

I was returning a playbook and they opened it as well. I was like WTF??!! You guys are gonna lose out because you have to sell it as an opened box item. Now I understand why. But what would of happened if your/my box was empty? And by no fault of our own. :suspicious:

I guess we have to open it on the spot at the point of purchase if that's what we're afraid of. Of course, I'm sure that affects future return of the item somehow. Especially in the OP's case.

I always open package now to check (specially used disk, check for scratches).
Bought a ipad2 for a buddy from states bb. He opened and won't boot up & it was scratched. He took it in to apple , they told him best buy repackages used stuff (specially ipads) and sells them as new!

Don't worry, if it didn't and you got screwed, I was ready to give you my copy anways.

PS3 Needs to get their shit together. First the playstation network is hacked by anonymous and now they cant at least make sure to make game packages tranlusent so people can see if theyre is a cd inside. It wouldnt be hard to impliment

About ten mins. I'm quite sure this has happened to them before. Internal theft at Best Buy's is not uncommon from what I've heard. But props to them, they didn't even ask their manager lol.
