The security guard for D&G said "You're not allowed to take pictures.....except if you are from China" That sent hongers over the edge and it resulted in this.

In (my) serious note though, this Christmas season in HK has been terrible if you wanted to do normal shopping. In that mall that D&G belongs to(in Harbour City TST), it virtually became China the entire holiday season and its becomes comical how hard it is to get around and look at things without a FOB bumping you/screaming loud/climbing over you for stuff/standing in the middle of the path. To make things worse, the service industry in HK caters to the biggest buyer and neglects all sorts of manners.

I went to shop for shoes in TST, and in most places you don't get greeted and if you do you're greeted in Mandarin. But its not "Ni Hao", it's "Ke yi ma" (is this ok? But in a "You gonna buy it now?" tone) Fobs have made it so easy on stores that they don't need to sell anymore, ask a clerk anything and he'll look at you like "dude why haven't you bought this yet, why are you asking me stuff?"

One more thing, you're not letting hongers take pictures, you know what that means here? People take a giant DSLR and point it 2 inches from their food for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner. People take pictures of EVERYTHING here. You're telling them only FOBS can take pictures of a glitsy bright decorated store front of a name brand? This was bound to happen.

Service @ Lane Crawford was amazing when they first opened in CWB. I remember going inside (this was when I was 12), one of the gentleman in the suits section (obviously I had no intention of buying one) gave me a quick 15 minute lecture on how to shop for a suit even though I was just browsing the whole store (their rounded escalators drew me into the store).

Kinda. What happened was that some wanted to take a picture at sidewalk of the front of the store (with probably no intention of actually taking a picture of anything made by D&G) and was told by an employee of the D&G store that they couldn't take a picture there. When pressed for a reason why a picture couldn't be taken in a public place, the store employee replied with a reason that "they didn't want pictures taken of their products so that fakes could be made". However, logic tells you that you could probably get a better picture from the D&G website itself.

That person got a hold of Apple Daily, and Apple Daily News went back to try to verify. Apple Daily News reporters went and tried to take a picture of the store front from the same location, and were advised by a D&G store employee, AND a security guard, that they couldn't take a picture, even though it was public grounds. The security guard, in a moment of stupidity, added oil to the fire by stating "Hong Kong citizens can't take pictures here, but if you were a tourist from the mainland, you can". That's what set off the throng of people to show up in front of the store with cameras.

Yes, going to Canton Rd is just like going to China now. And in the last 8-12 months the same can be said for the main shopping areas of Mong Kok. Most of the electronics and clothing stores have been replaced by cosmetics stores, and it is way busier now, every night, not just weekends like before.

Last time I went to Harbour City, I saw a lady wearing a really expensive fur coat and designer bag, shoes, etc, hawk a loogie on the floor :heckno:

You are a serious social noob if you think wearing Dolce and living in Mid-levels is anywhere near the very top of the game. I know a ton of people who actually moved away from Mid-levels to other much more expensive places in Hong Kong. See, people like you only know of Mid-levels as the baller places of Hong Kong, when people like us know that there are much more baller places. As a matter of fact, we are considering moving away from Mid-levels as well, but we are staying here because its right beside the 'downtown core' of HK.

Please see above. Even if I tell you where these places are, you still probably don't know where they are or what they are. For example, a wonton noodle restaurant in Central is invite only, and that can be completely ridiculous to a lot of people. There are tons of places in HK like this such as nightclubs, golf clubs, bars, and restaurants. No hard feelings but this is the harsh truth of reality, because social statuses here are a lot more apparent and distinct than in Vancouver.

Harbour City was ridiculous. Line-ups outside these stores on a Tuesday afternoon. The customers and staff were mainly mainlanders. We weren't greeted and when spoken too, the staff's attitude was simply - are you ready to buy something? I agree with the poster above, Elements was far better.
