Got this idea from t-nation
can be food you are making or what you are eating
I will start
Chinese braised Chicken
250ml soy sauce
1 cinn stick
75gram sugar 1/3 cup, ( i used splenda dieting )
4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2.3cm piece of fresh ginger i put 5 in
4 garlic cloves
1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
1.5kg chicken thighs skin removed
1. combine water soy sauce ginger garlic vinegar and chili flakes and bring to a boil, add the chicken and then reduce heat to a min then let sit for 50min,
2. serve with bokchoy
there is a ton of sauce left over so i use to for days on just about to be done with it, you could put beef in there also if u want, endless solutions

salt and pepper to taste (my last batch i used no salt at all)

Meatballs. easy to make a bunch and freeze them. then throw them into spagetti for a quick and easy meal.
should make about 40 meatballs. good for 5-8 servings depending on how many you eat at a time.
2 pounds lean or extra lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup bread crumbs
1/3rd cup parmesan cheese
1 clove garlic, minced
2 eggs
salt and pepper
(you can add more spices in if you want. this is just a simple way)
*easiest if you make it 1lb (half) at a time
1-In a bowl combine everything and mix real well. get in there with your hands and do it
2-Roll into balls the size of a golf ball and place on a tinfoiled cookie sheet sprayed with Pam.
3-Bake in oven at 350 for 30 minutes flipping once at about 20 minutes.

You guys put way to much effort in for my time management skills.
1 of my quick "meals" is this...
Macaroni Noodles (enough to, when cooked, fill a big pot)
4-5 cans of Tuna
Mayo (I like it to be a little on the "to much" mayo side as it get's dry easy)
Sliced Green onion.
Makes a big ass pot and I just dip in and eat until I'm full. Good Carb/Protein/Fat balance.
2nd easy meal.
1 Box of Kraft Dinner/Rice-a-Roni/Hamburger Helper depending on my mood.
1lb Lean Ground Beef.
That's fucking it. Eat it.
At this stage in my life I'm eating because I have to not because I want to. I have very little time to actually cook so all my meals are quick, easy and to the point.
Berz out.

1L of milk
Rice or a banana if on the go.
If rice, chinese food too.
Total : 45grams of protein, 900 calories.
Just something simple, i dont really have the patience to cook food, mainly because i have a grandma who cooks food and prepares it for me :okay:

This is a good meal for low carb days, very quick and tasty. Works great if you are doing Leangains IF, on low-carb-high-fat days:
You'll need;
6 eggs (omega 3 if possible)
Coconut milk
Berries
Cocoa powder
Cinnamon
In a saucepan, use low-medium heat and some coconut oil. Beat the eggs, and slowly cook while stirring.
When eggs begin to solidify, add some coconut milk. Not too much, I'd say no more than 1/2 cup.
Keep stirring, and eventually you'll get this fluffy texture that is similar to a custard.
Plate the eggs, and throw on some berries. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, whatever.
Lightly sprinkle with cocoa powder and cinnamon.
It actually tastes even better cold. Like a dessert!
This recipe has a ton of protein, lots of good fat, and some carbs from fruit (not garbage). It's full of antioxidants from the fruit, cocoa, and cinnamon, and will keep you full for a long time, considering it only takes a few minutes to make.

so Ive been suggest to come here for my question.
" what do you guys eat?
I work out 4 days a week now and I am still not getting the body (more like bf) I wanted.
I think its the Chinese foods I eat everyday
What are your guys' routines? "
Basically... what should I eat with a busy schedule that is outside most of the day (sometimes till 9pm) so that means I cannot eat chicken breast for lunch or dinner etc.
RRxtar
01-18-2012, 08:56 PM
I work 10-12 hour days outside with no fridge or heat. I eat 2 full chicken breasts everyday for lunch.
The key is to prepare ahead of time. On sundays, cook up a weeks worth of chicken and pasta or brown rice. both can be eaten cold for lunch/dinner.
I always start my day with a big bowl of oatmeal. and not that prepackaged sugar oatmeal. add some cinnamon and chopped up granny smith apples. mmmm.
Other things like chili or stew can be warmed up in the morning in the microwave and kept piping hot in a good thermos for lunch. Infact, my thermos can keep chili nearly too hot to eat for 8 hours no problem.
ShadowBun
01-18-2012, 09:01 PM
dam thats nice. what kind of thermo you use?
Hmm i love oatmeal.
Regarding chili, isnt it really high in carbs (correct me if im wrong, I thought it was the high carbs from Asian food that's bad for you)
jeffh
01-18-2012, 09:21 PM
^ theres probably only 350 grams of carbs in that whole chili recipe

01-18-2012, 09:43 PM
for real?
the 8-9 serving one?!
RRxtar
01-18-2012, 10:19 PM
the pasta sauce has 70g carbs for the whole can. 1/4th of it is fiber
the 2 cans of crushed tomatos have 126g carbs total. 1/3rd of it is fiber
the 2 cans of kidney beans have 238g carbs BEFORE draining. half is fiber
the carbs in fresh veggies is irrelevent because the other nutrients in them outweigh the negatives of the carbs
ground beef has no carbs
so that gives about 434g carbs. minus the fiber (since fiber is not broken down into glucose) and youve got about 280g carbs over 9 servings you're looking at 30-35g of per meal. include veggies youre maybe at 50g per meal. most people will argue that veggie carbs are not a problem unless youre very very strict.
there is a TON of protein in it tho.
the kidney beans are good for about 130g protein
the ground beef is good for about 320g protein.
just those 2 are worth 450g protein. say theres another 50g protein spread amongst the veggies and sauce.. 500g protein over 9 servings. roughly 55g protein per meal.

^thats how you do it. prepare ahead of time.
i make 5 days worth of lunches at a time. you can freeze cooked food real easy (rice, pasta, chicken). if you cook sunday, have monday/tuesday in the fridge and the rest in the freezer, and take one out of the freezer and put it in the fridge every day. (one for lunch, tomorrows in fridge, rest in freezer) to keep it fresh, but thawed when you need it.
I usually just put my meals in the fridge, not the freezer. No issues so far.
I don't necessarily recommend this. A google search says not to keep cooked food longer than 4 days in the fridge. I've eaten refridgerated food stored in tupperware up to 7 days after I've cooked it without anything happening .

I LOVE noodles. And if these yam noodles are as good as people claim, then this might be the key to my 6pack lol

when im dropping carbs from diet i go in this order:
junk food/treats/etc - dont eat any ever anyway
all fast food
.
pop
juice
pastas
breads
white rice
.
oats
wild rice
if you dont normally eat junk or fast food, simply eliminating pop, juice, pasta, bread, white rice can be worth 250g or more of carbs per day. thats 1000calories. cutting 1000calories will almost certainly result in fat loss gains.
ive never dieted to the point of not eating oats for breakfast or wild rice for dinner tho i may eat less rice per meal. i will never under any circumstances cut fruit or vegetables.

Extra foods should have similar sales since it's all loblaws. Keep an eye on the flyers.
For chicken breasts, it's false economies you're looking at. Sure it's $2/lb when it's on sale, but have you actually calculated how much protein you get? If you buy bone-in fresh for $3.50 a lb, the $/g protein is actually pretty similar (~10%)
.. or buy a whole chicken for $2/lb. You basically pay the same you would if you got just breasts, but you get all this extra meat and bones for stock.

Who has the best frozen chicken breast? Like big 3-4kg or bigger bags or boxes.
Ive tried Costco, Safeway and M&M. Id like to find one that isnt so pumped full of crap that its rubbery when it comes out of the oven.
Also, what about pasta sauce? Im a fan of Hunts thick and rich pasta sauce but I need MORE. Like huge cans of it . the regular off the shelf sized cans or jars or sauce end up costing a fortune.
I just picked up this huge can of Hunts for 2.59 at Costco in bellingham. Although, Canada Costco might have it, haven't checked.

Brown and crisp on the outside. Takes about 15-20 mins in my oven. Times vary because oven temps are so wild inaccurate.

I hate infographs like this because they overly simplify things that aren't necessarily accurate. This infograph is horrible.
Some points:
- Carbohydrates are not the only thing that drive insulin secretion. Protein does too. Carbs + protein drive is up the most.
- Insulin doesn't make you hungry. It suppresses your appetite. The hormone responsible for hungry is ghrelin. Its counterpart is leptin.
- Calories in/calories out do matter for weight loss/weight gain. What macro composition affects is your body composition. I'll happily take a bet with anyone that says they can eat 7,000 calories a day of nothing but protein and carbs and not gain weight. High protein diets are effective because of protein's satiety power so they eat less.
Some good reading:
- How We Get Fat | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/how-we-get-fat.html)
- Nutrient Intake, Nutrient Storage and Nutrient Oxidation | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/nutrition/nutrient-intake-nutrient-storage-and-nutrient-oxidation.html)
- Insulin Levels and Fat Loss | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald (http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/insulin-levels-and-fat-loss-qa.html)
, insulin is neither the only nor single most important hormone involved in fat storage. Rather, a little compound called acylation stimulation protein (ASP) has been described as “the most potent stimulator of fat storage in the fat cell”. And ASP levels can go up without an increase in insulin (although insulin plays a role).

It's simplified because that's what infographics are for. It's no more or less simple than it needs to be. You are talking about things like ghrelin which is the hunger hormone, but guess what releases ghrelin?
The bottom line is, the infographic is a great way to quickly educate people who otherwise wouldn't know or care to know about this stuff, and makes them want to research more for themselves. If you start introducing complications, it's not going to be very effective.

If anyone likes frozen breasts I've got a pretty good recipe:
-~4-6 chicken breasts frozen (as many as you can fit on a baking sheet) I use superstore Blue Label Easy Cook Chicken Burger/breast (Do not get the JUICY chicken burgers, they taste like crap)
-Line baking sheet with foil (otherwise your mom/wife/gf will kill you)
-Drizzle olive oil and coarse salt and Mrs. Dash Herbs + Garlic on the pan
-Get some soft butter (preferably room temp) and throw some Mrs. Dash herbs and garlic in there, and mix it up. Rub that mixture onto the tops of your chickens.
-Pour in a can of coke (non diet) into your pan with some lemon wedges (lemon juice will work too & coke should be just below the top of the chicken, the buttered top part should still be exposed).
-Optional .. use some of your fave bbq sauce/ketchup
-Optional .. I use the red peppercorns that pizza places give you with pizza and sprinkle them ontop of my breasts as well
-Cover with foil (otherwise splatter will mess your shit up)
Enjoy!
Most of the sugar from the coke doesn't go in, and even if it does it's split 4-6 ways. Don't use the coke unless I'm not caring about carbs anyways:ilied: It gets a flavor pretty similar to bbq chips. Sweet yet just a little spicy. Be careful that you don't use too little coke, because then it'll evaporate and just burn at the bottom of the pan/breasts.
If anyone likes rob hunter's chicken from cactus I've got a pretty good recipe for that but it involves a grill. I gotta remake it and actually measure it this time, usually i just throw random shit together and eat it lol.
self explanatory,
1-lettuce lean burger, with over easy egg, tomato, light mayo, bacon, sundried tomatoes and fried onions.
2-minimal burger bun for cheats.

Ghrelin is made by your stomach. The release of ghrelin is not (unless I'm reading things wrong) affected by insulin, but rather the other way around though it's a little schizo in that it can suppress or increase insulin secretion.
The infograph is wrong though and shortcuts people into saying shit like "All carbs are bad" or "if I kept my insulin down, OMG, I'd be skinny" when you and I both know that it's not quite like that.
If people don't know and care, then it sucks to be them.

The graphic makes it pretty clear that ALL carbs are not bad, and carbs don't AUTOMATICALLY make you fat. But they ARE what make you fat and unhealthy.
And if you do keep your insulin down, you can get skinny that way. That's how people lose weight overall without dieting.
And yes, calories are important, but still not as important as what they are composed of. Ask anyone who has tried to lose weight eating nothing but rice crackers and water, and compare that to someone who goes on Atkins. The former is eating probably 500 calories less than the Atkins person, but is not losing any weight and is hungry all the time, while the Atkins person easily loses weight and is never hungry.

When I first started losing weight, cutting carbs helped out tremendously in getting lighter. Granted, however, that I went from literally being able to eat a whole rice cookers worth of rice in one sitting to a cup a meal.
But I always wondered about this...in documentaries like Fathead, they explain how carbs essentially contributes to the obesity rates in North America...but what about in Asia? They consume carbs on a regular basis but are seemingly never obese. I was in the Philippines 2 years ago and the amount of rice they eat in a meal is fucking mind-boggling, lol.
Are their obesity rates lower because they're more active? Or is it because of the portions? Or maybe I'm just making an assumption that obesity rates in Asia are lower?

The thing about obese asians is that they don't get as big. Just like a "tall" asian. One may be considered "tall" at 5'10" but compared to white people they'd be average.
So there are still plenty of obese asians, trust me, I see them every day here, but they are just not AS fat. Maybe they are also less common...
What IS common here is the 'pregnant male' look. Anecdotally, I think it is almost a MAJORITY of hong kong (and especially mainland) men over 40 who have a 'pregnant belly'. They aren't obese or anything like that, but have a huge round belly. Absolutely the worst, most unhealthy kind of fat there is, but it's extremely common. It's usually an indicator for diabetes, and often heart disease as well. This isn't too surprising since so many of them smoke cigarettes all the time.
Also some people tolerate carbs different than others as well. Some are 'built' for having extremely good insulin response. That's where insulin sensitivity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insulin_resistance) becomes important.

one note about asians eating carbs is i would venture to say while their carb macro ratio might be higher, their overall caloric intake is probably a lot lower. they may eat rice often, but their plates are significantly smaller.

Use leftover rice, fry in pan with small meat/veggies of your choice, egg (optional), some oil, and garlic salt.
Leftover rice = day old rice (leave it out so it's at room temp).
Even then, the rice should be cooked well on the day of making it, i.e// not overly moist, soggy/dry)
The egg should be among the last thing. Make an opening in the middle of the pan, drop in the eggs. Let it cook a bit, then scramble a bit, then mix it into the fried rice.
Add soy sauce and s&p to your liking. For Garlic/shallots, I like going with the real stuff, but minced up or in a paste (if you have the tool)
For veggies, I tend to use frozen mix for convenience (peas, carrots, corn), maybe shitaki mushrooms if I feel like more work.
For meats - they often use Chinese dollar brand sausages, or BBQ chicken from the meat markets.
Since we're trying to go for healthy, sub white rice for brown. More veggies. Sub typical meats for crumbled up meatballs that Halogod buys?

the sauce was unreal man
Made fried chicken. Yup I said fried. Co-worker gave me a paleo recipe and worked around it.
Batter is just almond flour or grinded steel cut oats (more carbs), flax seed, coconut flour, and un sweetened coconut flakes, chili flakes.
Toss diced chicken in egg wash then throw in batter until covered.
****edit you want to dice the chicken fairly small so you can just drop it into the small amount of oil and take it out right away
1 inch height of extra virgin coconut oil, flash fry just until batter is golden brown, took about 10-15 seconds of tossing chicken around the oil just lightly coating everything, then take out of the pan and place on baking tray and finish in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. (after drying chicken on paper towel for excess oil to come off)
then thats it.
toss in hot sauce.....
voila. semi Paleo Style fried chicken. Was. very. very. Tasty.

Man as soon as I saw that post about pancakes I had to make some.
I don't remember the exact measurements because I was too excited to experiment with something but I combined about 4-5 scoops of protein powder (thought using chocolate would be cool so I did) coconut flour, and steel cut oats. Some splenda, 2 eggs and 1.5 tsps of baking powder. Add milk until has same consistency of pancake batter, lumpy is good! Add blue berries. Eat with zero sugar maple syrup.

In an effort to get a hell of a breakfast into me as fast as possible:
I pre fried up bacon and chopped up ham. easy to toss into scrambled eggs in a pan in the morning
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/g2mike/Gym/IMG-20120302-00205.jpg
I have gotten my time down to make 2 slices of ham, 5 eggs, 2 toast, and coffee, (no bacon), to a consistant 13 minutes in the morning. Im hoping this will get me into sub 10s lol. Now the longest part of the prep is cracking the eggs.
awesome. that is how effective food prep is done!
you could also just toss it all into 2 seperate containers and portion out thirds to save bags

Just some constructive Criticism,
There's no need to s&p over night - doing it prior to placing on grill/pan is fine. And it's recommended to only flip once (the more flips, it lets more juices out).
Good job on letting the steak get to room temp, before cooking. And I also use olive oil here and there, but lately, been using bacon fat more often. Ummmm.

Definitely no salt the night before... salt by design actually draws moisture out; while this is what allows a liberal salting to create a nice crust, it will also dry your meat out. Ideally the meat should be left out unseasoned to come to temperature and then seasoned at the last minute. If you are going to dry rub it ahead of time, most dry rubs do not have a high salt content for this reason.

Definitely salt the night before. The original poster was right.
Kind of a dick move to fail me for my post... when to season meat is a HIGHLY debated topic and while you are right that some avant-garde chefs are beginning to salt earlier, the conventional wisdom and the curriculum at the top culinary schools worldwide remains that salting is to be done right before cooking.
I found this to be an interesting and informative article:
The Juicy Secret to Seasoning Meat | Food & Wine (http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/the-juicy-secret-to-seasoning-meat)
The consensus he came to was that for some meats like pork, seasoning a day ahead was a complete fail, while other meats like chicken and lamb, it produced superior results. FWIW he found the steak virtually identical regardless of when it was seasoned.
The real difference is that when you salt something 48 hours in advance, you are not really seasoning the meat with the same goals. Covering it in salt that early is much closer to brining than it is to seasoning... you end up brining it in its own released liquids rather than in a salt-water solution, but the results are the same, which is a great product.
It is also worth noting that which salt you use will produce a huge difference in end result. If somebody tries salting their meat 24 hours in advance using common table salt they are going to get a nasty mess for the simple reason that different types of salt have highly different moisture contents. Simple table salt has virtually no moisture so it will simply pull moisture out without imparting its own. On the other hand, a high quality coarse kosher salt has a lot of moisture in it so while it extracts moisture from the meat, it also imparts its own moisture.

I failed you because you said it dries your meat out which is completely untrue in the context that you quoted the original poster. The article I linked to shows that it does only within a certain time period of which the original poster's actions did not fall into.
I also disagree with your point about bringing conventional wisdom into this. Take dieting for example - "conventional wisdom" was to eat 6 small meals a day or OMG's catabolism. Before IF was popular on these boards, people were failing me for recommending meal skipping. What's conventional now may not be conventional in the future.

Just because they sell it, doesn't mean you can bring it over lol. Don't forget, American Costco - they were previously (shitload of Canadians now) catering to Americans.
If you're planning on stocking up on groceries, you must abide by certain limits of 24 eggs, 20 kg of dairy products not worth more than $20 in value, 3 kg of margarine or butter substitutes, 20 kg of meat products, a maximum of one whole turkey or 10 kg of turkey products, maximum of 10 kg of chicken, maximum of 5 kg of edible meats, meat products from cattle, sheep, goat, bison, buffalo and a maximum of 250 g of caviar.

Marinaded chicken breasts (maple syrup, dijon, balsamic, garlic etc, baked, reheated), roasted asparagus tossed in olive oil, salt and pepper, and quinoa. Was damn hungry after running 19km today.

They taste kind of 'livery' which I assume is a really good thing, so I'll be buying a lot more of this beef. It is really cheap compared to other cuts, but still really fatty and tender. Not big on the taste, but it's more important to eat healthy

Probably a silly question, but how can a meal be with absolutely no fruits or vegetables be healthy?

I'm glad you asked. I've been wondering this myself.

These meals are usually our (well speaking for myself) post-workout meals. Which is usually just good fats and protein - lots of it.
We do eat vegetables/fruits, but most of the time, it's just boring ol'vegetables and I figure, who wants to look at pictures of fruits/vegetables?
My steak with a side of 3 eggs looks a lot better, so I'd post that lol.

What subordinate said. Just because one meal doesn't have fruits or veggies, doesn't mean others don't.
Anyway, if you look at all the pictures posted, most of them have plenty of fruits and/or vegetables. This is the first pic I posted that doesn't have any in it... In fact, almost every picture has vegetables in it except for these 'supplemental meals' posted by myself, and most of Halo's pics because he probably eats 12 times a day and if there were veggies in each one he'd have to live on a toilet.

fuck veggies
i get my veggies from steak, cows eat grass, i eat cows
therefore i ate grass as well
(no srs lol)
Can you guys posts some simple marinates for chicken or beef? I'm getting pretty tired of soy sauce, salt and pepper, soy sauce and hot sauce, soy sauce and pepper...you get the idea.
Simple, simple, really simple stew recipes would be a huge bonus.
