: Warmest Clothing Available?

Hi there,

Looks like this Winter is turning out to be freakin' cold ... (-9?!) ... and when the snow starts to hit my car is shelved, I'll be walking a lot to and from work.

I need to start looking for some REALLY warm clothes.

Jacket
My friend recommended getting this jacket by Canada Goose, it's suppose to retain heat and is really, really warm. Also I've heard about Nobis jackets being surprisingly warm, although pricey ...

Also what kind of gloves?
I tried googling for warmest gloves and it came up with finding "Thinsulate Insulation" gloves will keep your hands the warmest, is that true? Where would they carry these kind of gloves?
I wonder if MEC carries them?... I'll be walking a lot when the snow really hits this week so I would prefer some nice super warm gloves rather then the 1 dollar cotton gloves ... but I don't want to wear some super thick skiing gloves where I can barely hold a coffee mug...
I also got a suggestion to try E-Tip gloves from MEC, how are those?

Also this is kind weird, but I vaguely remember seeing a commercial on TV with this dude giving a tour of some visitors to a meat shop, he says "This is where we keep all the frozen food, it's negative blah blah inside so we can't stay inside too long!"... then he opens the door and there's a dude inside on his phone, it's an advertisement for some kind of under-clothing? Sort of like long underwear? I can't remember the brand... is that useful?

Advice plz!
Thx!

I recommend buying a milwaukee heated jacket. Uses same batteries as their cordless tools and lasts up to 6 hours per battery charge.

http://toolguyd.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Milwaukee-M12-Heated-Jacket-in-Black.jpg

I also wear a set of paradox base layer, which can be found at Costco, before winter starts.

Marks work wearhouse has a lot of warm stuff for reasonable prices.

My friend is in the prairies right now. Says it's -25 everyday :lol

The key is layers. Thick material like wool will help retain heat. Scarfs will protect your neck and face. Gloves are optional since you have pockets (I don't wear them).

I'm not sure about jackets.. I don't really have anything specifically for the cold. I just layer up under them.

The higher Canada Goose and North Face parkas are wayy too warm for Vancouver. A couple of my friends have them and they say the jackets are too hot even if they're just wearing a t-shirt underneath.

Bought a thermal skiin tight HH shirt from atmosphere in Coquitlam center then a carhart thermal zip up sweater then planning on a carhart rain proof jacket. Just food for thought on what I will be wearing in -40 weather. atmosphere is a nice store maybe just go check it out.

Do it.
I have a Ralph Lauren vest.. pretty much the same as the North Face 700 vest. That with a hoodie and thermal long sleeve is all I need.

That with a toque and some random black dollar store gloves.. Though I think it may be time for me to upgrade to some Thinsulate gloves.. :fullofwin:

I'm confused, what is this "Manning up" you speak of? ... so you big boys just run around in -5 degrees half-naked because you are "DA MAN" ?! ...
This is the Fashion forum right?... did I accidentally post in the "I'M THE MAN" forum? :seriously:

I'm just asking what would be some very warm clothing to wear in the colder seasons. Like what is the best bang for your buck jacket and gloves to purchase so I don't get a pair of $99 gloves that can't keep my hands warm when a breeze blows by. A really thick warm jacket is a hefty investment, some of these jackets go for $500-$700 each.

Don't get me wrong it's not like I'm gonna keel over the moment I step outside because it's negative degrees lol ... but I would prefer to be more comfortable without being cluttered by wearing layer upon layer of clothing. Hence the reason for this thread :p

Sorry I'm not the type to commute around in Speedos and flipflops this weekend like some of you macho men :fuckthatshit:

na, you don't have to get $500-$700 jackets
The secret is layering!

just like snowboarding, you should definitely layer your clothing:

base layer
mid layers
outter layer

Personally, I don't like thick jackets due to their bulkiness. A nice merino wool or lambswool sweater could be a good alternative, with a slimmer jacket that has synthetic insulation.

As for gloves, maybe a pair of leather gloves with wool insulation. I find the gloves with fleece or Thinsulate are a little too thick.

^ but for example if you are going to the restaurant to eat, you don't want your sweater + hoodie + jacket/overcoat hanging off the back of your chair because they are blasting the heater haha ... so I was looking for a really nice, warm jacket that I can possibly use and just wear a t-shirt or dress shirt underneath because I was never a big fan of wearing thick sweaters.

A little shiver wont hurt. Most of the time you are in a heated building or heated vehicle anyways.

It is to late to find a nice winter jacket at this time, those come out around september.

In preparation for this winter I bought a new Monclar jacket worth $1000. Price tag alone doesn't determine shit but I heard good things and down feather is supposed to be a good choice and plus it looked nice. Fast forward 3 months now and I can say I'm quite disappointed. I randomly bought a Vince hoody the other day which has fur on the inside and I can honestly say just wearing a tshirt and that vs the Monclar I feel way warmer. Plus the added bonus of not having that shitty feeling or drag of wearing a bulkier jacket I'm loving the hoody so far.

Mo need to spend thousands of $$$ to stay warm, just layer up and shop at walmart. That's what regular people do.

+1.. This is a Vancouver forum.. Iceman, Good for you if you can go out in shorts and a t-shirt.

Just posted in a similar thread in off-topic, but I'll reiterate.

I'll start by saying I'm not for or against the $700+ jackets. If people wanna spend that much on a jacket, good for them.

People in Vancouver buy the big expensive jackets for a balance between practicality and fashion. They just wear a t-shirt or dress shirt underneath and they're good to go.

If you're going out to dinner or something you don't wanna be wearing 4-5 layers in the restaurant.

You can't really compare the urban Vancouver to say, Fort Mac in Alberta.

Say what you will, but being in the city, people wanna find a balance between practicality and fashion.
Whereas in a place like northern Alberta, you could walk around in snowboard gear and not even get a second look.

I can vouch for Canada Goose, I have a Chilliwack myself. And like you I'm not big on layering. With the Goose I can usually get away with nothing more then a T in the Vancouver cold and not get too warm indoors or out. It's not my dedicated winter coat though, I usually just break it out when it hit close to 0. I could care less about the fashion aspect of it, I plan on owning this thing for many years since it barely gets any wear annually.

Normal people may just shop at Walmart and wear 4 layers of clothing but I still prefer to get the best of both worlds of warmth and fashionable without having to break the bank too hard. Canada Goose for Vancouver? Give me a break. You are reeming out guys who are saying man up. You get a week of cold weather a year. Wear a thermal layer underneath whatever you normally wear during winter and you will be as warm as you need to be.

I had a Canada Goose Parka. The minute I left the arctic I sold it on the spot, and I spend a lot of time outdoors in Ottawa. Canada Goose is becoming more mainstream and stylish these days, and for that it is completely over priced. I mean it's sold at Holt Renfrew in Ontario for f's sake.

One other thing to keep warm. Make sure you eat food, just keep shoveling food down the hatch and you should have enough energy to survive the cold.

I work "outside" all day in North Vancouver and all I've been wearing is a t-shirt, paradox base layer top, nike hoody, carhart vest, paradox base layer bottom, carhart pants, socks, and blundstone steelcap boots. That's actually not much clothing at all.

I say "outside," because the houses I'm working on right now have no doors or windows or insulation. It's colder working in these wind tunnels than it actually is outside.

If you kids actually ate something maybe you wouldn't have to buy $9999.99 Canada goose egg jackets.

I didn't even buy a Milwaukee heated jacket as of yet, because I'm too cheap. Maybe next year.
Base layer and some good socks is all you need.

Ok well first of all I have only heard of Canada Goose, I have never personally seen one let alone try one on. Hence the reason I made a posting on Revscene to ask for opinions and reviews.
I was not reeming anyone, I was merely pointing out the fact that wanting to dress comfortably for Winter does not warrant a contest of having the biggest testicles.
