Is this place good only because of the price?

How does it compare with sushi hachi in richmond? tsukiji? seto?

Their new Sushi Nanaimo sign is pretty eye-catching, spotted it on my way down hastings today.

I did a quick search, and both urbanspoon and dinehere has a few reviews for it, but really, not that much though.

Oh, and for the person who asked about their liquor license, no, they don't have it yet.

Is it a new sushi joint?

I've been here a few times. For the price, it's pretty good. Service is really good and friendly.

Maybe it's just me but I find the nigiri pieces on the large side.

I actually enjoy it, as I live in the nighbourhood and the other sushi joint is tentastu, which have fucking horrible service , the dynamite rolls are great and same as chopped scallops, they got takoyaki too :D the sashimi is quite fresh

Just got back from this place.. got some takeout
Cali + Dynam Roll x 1
Tempura Udon x 1

I have to say.. after reading this thread I'm not that impressed. Great service as said in this thread; however, the food I got was quite medicore / lacking. Nothing super special about the rolls, my tempura was extremely oily (though theres a significant amount) and the udon wasn't anything special, just MSG (obvious) and little ingredients in it (sushi garden makes it way better). Kinda ironic how the menu is pretty much identical to Sushi Garden's... they totally ripped it off them hahaha

Another thing was that in their kitchen, since its so visible was a lot of "pre-fried" tempura, heh, hopefully that wasn't the ones I got, maybe thats the reason why the portion seemed more than I thought I'd get. Anyhow.. just my honest review with no bias.

Overall, this is just another sushi joint but with great service, I'll stick to Sushi Garden.

most japanese restaurants in the late 90's and early 2000's greeted you when you walked in and when you walked out

it's more of a trend these past few years that they've seemingly stopped caring.

I live around the neighborhood, and have been to this joint a few times. Like one poster mentioned, it's no better than Sushi Garden, but the service is top notch. There's all this hype about it cause it's the only decent sushi joint in the area.

If you want great quality sushi made by real Japanese chefs around the area, go to KOKO instead.

I remember danizer did the headlights

Food was decent overall, no lineup, service was good FWIW.
Few minor complaints, menu is vague, I'm not a big fan of spicy food but I ordered the sushi pizza assuming that it wasn't spicy but man... Spicy tuna + spicy salmon + a spicy sauce... I told the server that it was too spicy/menu didn't say anything about it being spicy and he was willing to take it off the bill for us.
Also a few pieces of nigiri didn't arrive for both SWFK and I (separate bills) They also took these off the bill for us after we brought it to their attention.
Glad that they didn't try to argue etc.

Still left satisfied though and service was generally friendly. They keep having to come back to refill tea, should just get bigger cups or something lol...

With all the hype.. i went last Saturday. It does get quite busy even for lunch and the food was not bad. I can't say I would "crave" it but it is cheaper than sushitown.

We had the toro sashimi, party tray (the one for 2 people) and the awesome roll... That party tray is HUGE... we didnt finish (3 people)

I still think the awesome roll from sushitown tastes better. But its alot cheaper here and the service is 8/10

You bitches that keep on saying Nanaimo Sushi is the bomb, i love it when i'm high..etc

are fucking terrible people.

I went there and the food is absolute shit. I think it's worse that sushi garden and there is no way in hell their "awesome roll" is comparable to anything at sushiholic.

They make everything with waaaaay to much SHITTY rice @ sushi nanaimo. I'm not even comparing it to a gourmet place or anything the but the ratio is off the fucking scale and it tastes like doo-doo.

Conclusion?

Don't patronize this place and let it burn and rot in hell.

Oh yeah, if you think the pictures of the sushi pizza looks good, you've been deceived. It fucking sucks.

Oh but the service is decent. Also, does anyone know what the fuck they're yelling at you? It doesn't sound like japanese and it also doesn't sound like korean....

Ordered takeout there yesterday, some rolls, nigiri sushi and sashimi, as Alphamale said, the rolls had WAY TOO MUCH RICE and was inconsistent, some pieces were really big and some were so small. The rice was also pretty hard as if it was sitting there for a long time. The Nigiri Sushi was fresh and good except for the whole scallop one (had sand in it and tasted weird) but once again, WAY TOO MUCH RICE! Sashimi pieces were pretty big and did taste fresh.

Overall, 6.5/10.

Comparable to sushi garden - which I'll only go to with co-workers who have never frequented restaurants such as sushi hachi, shima ya, ajisai, hanako etc... I can see how this place would receive favorable reviews if you're looking for budget sushi and large portions.

Bottom line: nothing special. Vancouver is home to too many of these, 'sushi', restaurants.
