noob question here:

If I have my ipod plugged into my 12v outlet when the car is turned off, would it drain the battery? OR does the 12v only push out the charge when the car is running(driving) / in accessory mode.

thanks thanks!

It depends on the car... some cars do, some don't. Should be able to tell pretty quickly: plug it in with the key turned off and see if it starts charging.

You'd have to leave your iPod plugged in for several months for it to actually drain the battery, though (especially since it will draw almost no current once it's fully charged).

i could be wrong but it seems like all the domestics ive owned have given you a charge and none of the jap cars do.

True *in general*, but since there's so much crossover these days in what cars are designed/built/assembled where, you can't always count on it. Our 08 Jeep Patriot, for example, has the outlet on the accessory key... BUT it's also on a timer that keeps it on for one minute after you turn off the key, or until you open a door... AND this behaviour can be reprogrammed to keep it active for (if memory serves) up to 60 minutes after turning off the key.

I've had my ipon plugged into my car for months at a time, no problems.

08 mazda will only charge if it's on ACC mode. If the car is turned off , it will not charge!

Im sorry, but thats really, really noob. Its something you could've found out by walking out to your car to test faster than waiting for someone to reply to this thread.
