| Would you help me find an Android phone under $300 used?
Hi everyone,
I'm getting tired of my berry. I need something more powerful. And I know an android is a lot more cost effective than an iPhone.
So I want an android.
I'm just too overwhelmed by all of them. There's like a 1000 Samsung Galaxy's?
I'm looking for one that is around $300 and can take at least 720p video.
I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy S 4G or Samsung Nexus S. Is this the best bang for the buck right now?
Thank you very much

The amount of captions on my BBM list that say "switched to android or iPhone" is ridiculous lol
I've joined the movement as well back still have my blackberry as a company phone.

Virgin Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy Vibrant for $199, no contract price.
Easy to unlock for free, probably your best bet in terms of getting a brand new android phone. Don't think it will do 720p though... but is it really that important to you?
Alternatively, Koodo Mobile, sign up for the $20 monthly plan, get the Nexus S for $300 (factory unlocked) and cancel the plan right away. You'll end up paying for the phone and having to pay like $5 for the 4-5 days of service you'll have to eat. Android Smartphone : Samsung Galaxy Vibrant - Virgin Mobile Canada

But, if I get the Samsung Vibrant and I unlock it will it still have 3G capabilities on Rogers?
I'm confused with the whole HSDPA thing??
ps. I just checked gsm arena, it does take 720p videos @ 30fps... no flash though.

Bell/Telus/Rogers each use the same bands. 850/1900, basically.
Mobilicity's Nexus S would work on Rogers, but only on 2G/EDGE.
So, to summarize, yes the Galaxy S Vibrant would have 3G on Rogers, if you bought it and unlocked it. The Koodo Nexus S would also work on Rogers. Bell/Telus/Rogers and their subsidiary brands of Virgin/Koodo/Fido all share the same network bands, just different portions of said bands.

So that means Virgins Samsung Vibrant will have 3G capabilities on the Rogers network? (ie. it will have the 1900 band?)

pretty much... the only oddballs are phones from wind and mobilicity because they run on different frequencies than the big 3.
i would vouch for the nexus s tho. i got it from wind and its a solid phone. not sure if it meets all of your requirements but its definitely my choice for a cheaper android phone

Thank you guys for all your replies. I appreciate it.
I'm actually going to go with the LG Optimus 3D.
Only because my friend is selling his for super cheap (~$200).
The only downside is the size and weight are a little much. But, I think it'll be ok.
And if I don't like it, i'll just sell it and grab the Nexus S.
Thanks again everyone!

3D phones are just a gimmick, I doubt you'll ever use the 3D feature. But thats not a bad price. =P

I'm not good with the hacking and stuff. Is it worth doing it? Is it like jailbreaking an iPhone?

FYI LG phones have been really problematic so buyer beware.
Also Koodo runs the 850 as that's the most prevalant band of the big companies with the exception of Wind and Mobilicity.

but the way i think of rooting... its like removing a limiter on your phone. that way you'll have access to tethering, modding, and all sorts of other customization while also being able to access certain apps where you wouldnt be able to without rooting
feel free to correct me on any/all parts of my post |
