| Best dumbphone/non smartphone?
I currently am using a Sony Vivaz Pro, and its starting to act a bit quirky so I'm thinking about getting a new phone. I have a while left on my contract, not looking to upgrade to a smartphone (due to my current plans data & don't want the extra data cost)
Anyone have any suggestions on decent feature phones? (I like Nokia's and Sony's)
I use maybe 50mb of data a month for random youtube/checking e-mails etc... and don't want an extra 25 bucks a month just for that
I had hoped I could somehow use my SIM in a blackberry and just use the crappy data (I have a playbook), but as far as I can tell that's not an option.

Nokia Lumia 710. Smart phone but requires no data plan. Can be bought for $255 no contract.

Would I be able to use my crappy-phone data still with something like that? My understanding is I'm limited to feature phones to retain use of the data in my plan
(I use it pretty frequently on surf/snowboard/kiteboard trips to check weather/swell/snow/wind forecasts)
Would rogers consider something like the e71 or e72 a smartphone or could I use my data on that?

| Nokia Asha 303 getting rave reviews from all over the place even though Nokias only officially released it in India people have been importing them
you can order it from sellers on Amazon for as low as $160 http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-303-Asha-Silver-Unlocked/dp/B006XXMKU6/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1329381202&sr=1-1this guy on howardforums is selling it on their website although it looks a little sketch he seems to be a reputable guy on there http://www.welectronics.com/gsm/Noki..._Asha-303.HTML
this howardforums sponsor sells it too http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...y-at-CanadaGSM
could most likely find it locally too but ive never looked into it
newegg carries the 300 for $120 Newegg.ca - nokia asha but they're currently out of stock
I prefer the 303 though
1ghz which will come in handy for the major updates they're planning (to make it look/act like the N9)
(and yes angry birds comes on them) edit but at the price of the 303 you may as well buy the Nokia 500 from WIND for the same price and that's an actual smartphone and can be upgraded to Symbian Belle (which makes it bloody awesome)

The Asha looks like it fits the bill pretty well! Thanks! (I have another year and a half left on my rogers contract, and I'm in victoria, so no Wind mobile here, wouldn't go with them until they have better coverage anyways, I spend a lot of time in remote areas surfing/snowboarding/kiteboarding)

Well, I picked up the Asha, just got it today.
The only issue being that browsing/packet data doesnt work. Is this something that I need to somehow configure myself or talk to Rogers about? (I'm assuming its missing some settings)

you likely just need to manually enter rogers data address in the APN settings
should be something like this Quote:
Here are the settings for Data
Name: Rogers
APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
MCC: 302
MNC: 72 (If that doesn't work try 720, its already filled in, leave it at what it is)
Leave the rest blank. Now you Data should be working
Here are the settings Multimedia Messaging
Name: Rogers MMS
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01
Server: 172.25.0.107
MMSC :http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 72 (If that doesn't work try 720, its already filled in, leave it at what it is)
APN Type: mms
Leave the rest blank. Now MMS should be working!
|
or you can call and ask rogers to verify their settings information
or bring it in to a rogers mobility location and get them to set it up for you
