| Phone disconnects internet on laptop
Hey guys,
I'm using a laptop, and 60% of the time when the phone rings, the internet disconnects. It's fine on my desktop (where the modem is connected), but internet always stops working until the phone is hung up.
Has anyone experienced this problem before?
I'm a computer rook, so I have no idea what to do.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

JK, is it a cell phone or cordless? lots of times a cordless phone runs on the same frequency as the Wifi I think. maybe change bands on the phone or get another phone?

There's not enough info given to say anything meaningful. Is it Telus or Shaw? Wireless or wired? Corded or wireless or cellular.

or when you answer your cell phone, go to another room.
the thing is, if you have a lot devices that run on 2.4ghz, it will also hinder the performance..
changing the band to 5ghz has its pros/cons. like limited range (coz it doesnt penetrate thru walls as good as 2.4ghz) but it also have a larger packet size over the 2.4ghz..
If your laptop is close to the router, and both laptop and router support 5ghz band, give that a try.. If enable the SSID of the 5ghz band.. if after you try and seems slower, then switch back to the 2.4ghz..

Used to happen with me as well. When anyone would buzz into my condo, it'd disconnect my internet for 5 seconds. Was a really big piss off when I was gaming. Anyways when I had Telus tv installed, the tech noticed it was like that and fixed it.

Prior to that the enter phone would cut your line off while it was in use. In your case your modem would have lost sync each time. If op isn't losing connection on his wired computer it is unrelated.
