However, I am no accident expert but I doubt the person(s) is still alive..

Doesn't matter what it was. A Hummer would have probably disintegrated. RIP to the passengers of that, because there is no way they survived.

There's not a passenger vehicle on earth where the passengers could survive a side impact by an 80,000 kilogram vehicle at 100km/h...

Also, Disclaimer: This is what happens when you purchase a used vehicle from Richmond Subaru. The paint gets damaged so much that upon accident or collision, the metals becomes weak and brittle from excessive use of wool buffer pads and lack of clear coat.

I would estimate speed to be closer to 80km/h for each which would bring a closing speed of 160hm/h

Be interesting to read the "official" report on it...
It's crazy when you think about how long there was NO on coming the other way... Then they just happen to loose control right in front of a Semi...
Talk about bad timing...
I don't see how the car lost control in the first place. Strait road, no need to brake or change direction...
Some driving lessons might have helped, but who knows!

wow...mother fucking destroyed!
Berzerker
02-28-2012, 08:18 AM
It's called traction. Heavy vehicle traveling uphill. It "may" have geared down to allow the hill climb and in doing so caused a surge of power and the rear wheels may have lost traction at this point. You can see it get swirly and then inexperienced driver likely let off the gas causing the weight to shift and then the rest is what you see. This is the reason your not supposed to use cruise control in slippery conditions. It can change the gearing and also cause sudden throttle increase and this is potentially the exact result.
Berz out.

someone explain why he went off into the center snow pile? seems thats what caused the loss of traction...
SumAznGuy
02-28-2012, 10:34 AM
It's possible that he was in 2wd mode and didn't have snow tires on. Hit a patch where it was slick, and the back end twitched. And like what Berzerker said, the driver panic's and let's off the gas causing the weight transfer, hits the cube van and then into on coming traffic.

Wrong, common misconception that two forces colliding equals double the speed.

I'm not sure about the laws and regulation where that crash happened, but here in BC the GVW of a tractor truck and semi trailer is usually around
47,000kg, while B-trains get to 63,500kg. I was told that there are a few occasions that a permit will be issued for overweight transporting. The same trucks when travelling in the US their GVW stickers will be 80,000lb and 105,000lbs. When you do the math, they are less than what is allowed here in BC, as much as 1/3 less. Either way, survivability of the occupants in the smaller vehicles is very unlikely. If you watch/read the news, whenever a passenger vehicle crashed into a tractor, the occupants of the smaller vehicle often die while the truck driver is shaken but unharmed. Only time the truck driver dies is if he crashes into another tractor/semi or goes into a river/off the cliff.
