that game never gets old!

my brother was sent to France to work for 9 months and missed the whole Olympics...add to that, they did not really broadcast it over there at all. I set up my laptop in front of the TV and we skyped for the whole game.

it was actually a lot of fun to watch with him that way :)

I was in London at the time, couldn't justify a ticket home for the olympics so I just watched most of the games streaming on the bbc (with no commentary...)

Went to the Maple Leaf Pub at Covent Gardens to watch the game. Arrived a few hours before the game and it was already at capacity. Lined up for an hour or so before I could get in.

There were random people in the pub. A bunch of irish guys who had been drinking since noon. They told me people just started rushing in and they had no idea why so they figured they might as well just stay and find out what all the fuss is about.

There was a guy next to me that honestly teared up everytime we scored a goal.

So are we gonna start this thread every year?

FUCK.

YOU.

This was one of the greatest days in Canadian hockey history, certainly the greatest to happen in our lifetime for many of us.

I remember exactly where I was. I remember who I high-fived. I remember how after watching the Golden Goal several more times in slow motion, someone said "DOWNTOWN!" and we all rushed to our cars. Fucking epic day for anyone that experienced the Olympics every single day for those weeks. I was down there all night, taking pictures, partying in the streets. Vancouver has never been and will never be as awesome as it was that very day until the Canucks win the Stanley Cup. That will be the party to end all parties but for now, that one magical day two years ago is the day where this city was nothing but fun.

If no one else does, I would bump this shit every year. I'll even change the title.

And if you don't think the Olympics were awesome...well, then you're dead inside.

Thank you for not forgetting the Series of the Century - The Summit Series.

Both are great moments for Canadian Hockey. Henderson and Crosby, baby!

I wasn't old enough to witness the last time a Vancouver team won the Stanley Cup, but I'm hoping to see it this year.

I was at a pub with a few friends for the game. We had debated trekking downtown but decided against it. Don't think I've ever drank that early apart from camping. Such a fantastic day. Hell, those entire two weeks were fucking awesome. So much fun, so much joy... I've never seen people in the GVRD come together like that before. That day was the only time in my life I've ever hugged a guy in a Calgary Flames jersey. :lol

I am super glad I got to experience not just the Men's Gold game but the entire Olympics here. It genuinely is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences, especially when it's your own city that's hosting it. And to have your own country win in overall gold medals and the most important sport to boot?

Epic.

I apologize; At first I thought it was more of a "No need to start a new thread thread" type of topic, but I take back my comments. After reading your guys' comments, I remembered how great that day truly was. I was in BP downtown when it happened and I can't remember a time when I was more proud to be Canadian.

by the time we got to the pub (an hour early) the pub was already at full capacity.

all the big screens and lcds were taken and the only spot left was in front of this oldschool 30-40inch tube tv
(imagine like 20+ people crowding this tv lol)

i will never forget that moment lol

prob one of the last most epic moments in my life watching something on a old school tube tv

the all day/night partying afterwards downtown was EPIC

definately one of the best moments in my life.

I have a long memory and it's good to go back and see who the whiners were cuz the whiners are usually the first to hide their ass only to come back later to whine about something else. Remember this guy:

Chris Shaw: Why resist the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver? | Vancouver, Canada | Straight.com (http://www.straight.com/article-281104/vancouver/chris-shaw-why-resist-2010-winter-olympics-vancouver)

First, going out into the streets in February to call attention to the harm done by the Olympics is not a pointless exercise, rather the equivalent of bearing witness, basically a moral response to something many of us believe to be fundamentally damaging to our lives and communities
...
Far from futile, resistance to the Olympics may be part of the rebirth of the anti-globalization/world-social-justice movement. Indeed, if there is any positive legacy to be found after February to Vancouver’s Olympic misadventure, it might just take this shape.
