Cheap Alberta Pure Vodka ??
vietzation

Some dude came into my work the other day offering us 12 cases of 1.14L Alberta Pure Vodka for $300. It was the first time I'd even heard of the stuff as im a Absolut and Smirnoff drinker, Ive never drank the stuff before so I looked it up online. Apparently it won double gold in a San Fran Vodka competition, so then I checked the BCL website,it retails for $37 a 1.14L bottle, which made this deal way too cheap to be true.. could this stuff be fake? I was thinking of getting a case to try it out but i'm questioning if this stuff is legit..The box & bottles he showed us looked legit but these days anything can. Thoughts?

Purchased some smirnoff at the liqour store in Lansdowne amd the owmer was telling me that Alberta pure vodka was actually good tasting.
It was cheaper than the usual brand smirnoff and absolut, guess worth trying next time.

Brought back from the states by a trucker without paying duty that's why it's so cheap. Was in front of a liquor store one time and the guy was selling 60's for $25 bux.

The best cheap vodka to get in Alberta is Kirkland vodka from Costco. It's cheap and its pretty darn smooth. I've heard of the Alberta Pure vodka and its not bad. 12 cases or bottles for $300? sounds like someone jacked a semi if they are going that cheap.

$300 for a case of 12 cases? or 12 bottles?
If it's 12 bottles, that's a fair price. Works out to be $25 each.
A quick search shows this store in Calgary sell for $35.99 each:
http://csnwine.com/cart-product_28_743096.htm
Probably cost him less to purchase in bulk / leaving him some profit margins
by selling it to you since he knows it will cost $37 at local BC Liquor stores.
what if he has 1 real bottle and the other 11 are fake =\

It's smuggled in from the states I guarantee it. Truck drives do it all the time. No way he's getting it for under $25 in BC even at wholesale prices.

yes you can taste the quality of the vodka, something like goose and OJ its really smooth when you do taste it but it blends really good with the juice when with crappy vodka you get a real crappy after taste and it doesnt go down as smooth.
Haven t you had vodka before? its the same with most all booze.

thanks for the feedback. i've only really tried smirnoff so i haven't had anything really 'better or worse' to compare it to.
actually i ordered some martinis at a restaurant before and it tasted great but i didn't take note what kind of vodka was used. i guess it must have been something good?
i usually drink captain morgan's spiced rum & ginger ale and captain morgan's is the only spiced rum that i know of. been switching over to vodka because i'd rather mix juice than pop.

:heckno: It defeats the purpose comparing alcohol is you chase it. I roll my eyes going to parties with grey goose and watch people quickly chase it down afterwards.
Grey goose is smoother than most vodka but the price difference is not justifiable and it takes lots of drinking and experience to notice differences between alcohol
For the 25 and under crowd who's main purpose is to get shitfaced...buying the normal vodka is the same thing. Leave the expensive liquor for our dads who drinks it straight.

If it was a proper Martini, it would have been Gin instead of Vodka. Unless you specifically ordered a "Vodka Martini"

Grey Goose is mostly marketing hype although it is smooth from what I hear (don't really want to fork out to try it when Stoli is cheaper). However, Stolichnaya seems to rate rather high in a lot of reviews, and is cheaper than Goose.

i appreciate the info, i will take a closer look next time i order one. any advice on what i should order to have a proper martini experience?

Just ask for a dry martini. If they give you vodka, send it back and tell them it's not what you ordered. If they ask if you want vodka or gin, roll your eyes and repeat your order :)
A proper bar will know what to give you.. places like Earls or whatever might not

Interesting article regarding how Grey Goose was founded: Sidney Frank - The Man Behind Grey Goose Vodka (http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/bizfinance/biz/features/10816/)
Basically it has no history or heritage behind it that people think it does, and was completely a packaged marketed product from it's start in 1997. i.e. they basically came up with the concept, name and brand first before the vodka was ever even distilled.

All Sidney Frank's brands are like that. You can include Jagermeister and Corazon tequila along with it. The guy is a master marketer.
I thought he had something to do with Red Bull but actually he is the marketer of "Crunk"

I actually like Sailor Jerry's better than Captains. I swear Captains used to be better, and I think they must have taken a bunch of money out of the production process and spent it on all their recent marketing campaigns (which are actually pretty well done).
But if we are talking about cheap delicious spice rum, that whole conversation starts and ends with Old Monk. The 3rd largest selling rum in the entire world.
You have never heard of it, for two reasons; there is not a single piece of marketing or advertising done, and it is produced in India.
I understand it is available in other countries, but I have only had it in India. Was one of the few brights spots of my time there.
Unfortunately they don't even sell the stuff at the airport on your way out.
I heard it can be found around Van. I know serious rum drinkers who love the stuff. Give it a try.

Another spiced rum to try, which is stronger (47%) but more expensive is Kraken. Comes in a cool bottle:
http://www.choosy-beggars.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/kraken_bottle.jpg
I've got another vote for Iceberg too. I pick it up once in a while. It's cheap and pretty good as well. Produced using water from icebergs harvested off the coast of Newfoundland.
"Won the 2006-2007 Golden Icon Award for Best Vodka; the Golden Icon Awards are presented annually by Travolta Family Entertainment. In 1998, the Beverage Tasting Institute gave Iceberg a 'superlative' score of 94 out of 100, ranking it second behind the acclaimed Grey Goose in a blind taste test of the world's best vodkas."

If you ever come across a rum called "Screech Rum" pick up a bottle. By far some of the best of premium rums I've ever had. Distilled in Jamaica, bottled in Nova Scotia I believe. You can find it ta the liquor store at Lansdowne Mall.
