Why do I get the impression that the people in this video are more or less simply actors and represent very little as to how these vehicles are actually built...

I hate to say it but that's actually not a bad looking car.

And really, guys... how the hell do you think every other car is made? Robots can't do everything. And it's likely they built this one car with the cameras to show the assembly process. IIRC Great Wall is one of the largest car manufacturers in China.

They told the rest of the plant workers to take a smoke break, so they can film foreign workers assembling to make the video more international. Typical Chinese tactic, like how they hired foreign actors to play CEO's.

99.9% these workers in the video are actors. Actually, make that 100%. China companies do this a lot, hire foreigners to pretend to be a part of their employment force to make their brand seem more international therefore more desirable to others in china. It's a marketing ploy that feeds of the Chinese mentality that everything foreign must be better.

4:25 for a split second there, I thought it was a BMW 1M lol

wow the chinese dont even trust the chinese to assemble cars

This is very common.

Chinese executives know that Chinese people are not very trustworthy.
When I was in Japan, I saw some TV show and that's what Chinese business people said.
They would rather do business with Japanese people (that's why they're in Japan) or someone who isn't Chinese.

Also I know they're from Hong Kong, but if you look at Cathay Pacific, most of their pilots are non-Chinese.

Ignorant much? Cathay Pacific is owned by the Swire Group. A BRITISH conglomerate.

Cathay Pacific was formed when Hong Kong was still a BRITISH colony.

Their pilots have traditionally been British dating back to the start of the 20th century.

Given that they are based in Hong Kong, it makes sense to hire from the local populace for customer service roles (i.e flight attendants)

But for pilots, they obviously source it from U.K expats given the sense of tradition. Call it a gentlemen's club or whatever.
