| adding a sub to 2008 x5
Hello audio gurus,
I am about to start up on the sub/amp install on my 2008 bmw x5. The gear that is going in is a PG xe400.1 amp and a focal 33k sub. To acquire the signal, I will be tapping off the factory speaker signals as I want to keep the OEM integration. I will be using a Audiocontrol LC2i for the hi/low conversion.
Now, with that said, my question to you guys is, should I take the signal from the factory woofers or should I take it from the full range signal? The reason why I ask this is because the factory woofer output has already been "processed" for the lower frequencies, but I am curious if BMW will set the cutoff a little bit sooner than my liking. By using the full range, I can adjust the low pass filter on the amp myself to the desired point of cut off right?
TIA

Sounds like you've made up your mind, off the full range speakers is probably good. Posted via RS Mobile |

I guess I kind of did. Well, with that said, I am not too sure which set of wires I should tap off to the high low converter.
here is the wiring diagram: http://www.xoutpost.com/attachments/...t-no-hi-fi.pdf
thoughts?

Since you don't really have "fullrange" speakers, just "midrange" and "subwoofers", then I would suggest using the subwoofer output.
The LC2i is capable of both inputs and two sets of outputs (subwoofer & mids/highs). If you only feed it midrange, then the output will be limited.

^huh! never thought about doing it that way! I guess doing the sub and the mid would give me the full bottom half of the spectrum which is all I really need. But the only thing is that if there was a difference between the left and the right, it would only pick up on the side that I tap off of! Good option! I'll see if anyone else has any other ideas! thank you!

You should take information from both sides to get an accurate signal to the amp to properly replicate the music that you want coming out of your amp.
Also, I am saying that you need to take the subwoofer signal to get subwoofer output to your amp so that your amp can replicate that sound. If you are stealing the midrange signal, that's what you'll get to your amp and it won't be able to give you what you want from there.
Take a left & a right signal from the sub output from the amp to the LC2i. run your rca's to your amp. That is the correct way to do this.

I've always ran off the sub output. All the outputs have been "processed" as you put it and there is no fullrange signal in your system.

I received info from an individual who measured the cut off previously and he said it was between 100-200hz so I am content with using that. Thanks everyone! Just made my life a lot easier Posted via RS Mobile |
