Massive Facebook unfriend trend going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Timpo

People used to add everybody on Facebook, because it probably was nothing but a popularity contest...now here comes unfriending trend...people deleting eachother.
"Morley Winograd, director of the Institute of Communication Tech Management at the University of Southern California, believes much of the unfriending stems from users becoming more privacy-conscious as they grow older, according to a Complex blog."

Never mind, it's just a filler story from a random blog. Not exactly worthy of 16 exclamation marks in the title... why not put it in all-caps too?

Everyone on my Facebook I've either met in real life or have talked to on the internet for years like many of you assholes. I don't get why people add randoms.
Unless they're hot.

maybe people realized that of all the people they added as friends only 1 or 2 actually posted anything?

i have 500 friends on Facebook.
I have seen/met everyone in real life on there. Most of them come from High School, Elementary School, UBC, Cadets, and more recently... RS :lawl:
I do regular pruning of my list anyways... i tend to keep the hotties on there though

Why unfriend someone unless you have a huge falling out or they've personally offended you in some way?
Don't add them in the first place, or don't accept their friend request in the first place.
If you're old enough to use facebook, you're old enough to gauge whether you're adding someone worth adding in the first place.

i don't post anything on facebook unless i'm willing to share it with the whole world anyway, so don't really care if somebody i met once at a club knows what my status is

For those people who get annoying posts on their news feed, instead of defriending them, why not just edit their priority?
Just click the little arrow to the right of their name and unsubscribe from their updates. That way you can still bet here friend and not have to read their updates.

I trimmed a bit recently. Just deleted a few people who I never talk to/or didn't ever in the first place (just randoms from HS and such) or people I don't want to talk to.
My friends list is about 160, and I was being quite generous with leaving some people on.

I know I can ask questions or favors from everyone on my list.

Never understood the whole concept around adding complete strangers to Facebook, and the whole "stalking" thing associated with browsing someone's content that was put on there for the sole purpose of others being able to look at it
I get Twitter, cause it's a totally different setup and it relates more to the networking cause, but on Facebook? :heckno:
I'm so scared :tears:

lol, I don't really unfriend people.
I secretly like to "spy" and see what's going on in people's lives at random times
if that person ever pops up in my mind after a long period of time.
That being said, I have unsubscribed to many people that I no longer talk to or care about,
so that my news feed wall isn't listing a bunch of posts from people I don't care about.
I find it works better this way, as I'm not bothered by those people's daily posts,
yet I don't feel like I have burnt any bridges. You never know when you'll need to talk to them some day.
I do that with MSN too. I have a list of real friends that I'm close with.
And a massive group of randoms that I may or may not need to talk to ever again. But good to have just in case....

Those who have thousands of friends, and are all random adds, are kids.
Those who have very few friends, choose this path for privacy reasons (whatever reason that maybe), or are introverted, and/or, don't know how to utilize facebook for social purposes (and if they deny that fact, they are just ignorant).
Those who have a few hundred to a few thousand friends, but know all, or almost all of them, are the true extroverts, or people that know how to utilize the power of this social tool.
anyone who wants to refute this argument can. I'm ready to fire back.

LOL I'm guilty of unfriending people
I used to have like 350, but I went through my list one day and had like 40 people on my list that I didn't even know in person. I unfriended most of them, and also unfriended the annoying fuckers who kept popping up on my news feed, updating their statuses every fucking couple of minutes
I don't usually add people first. I don't really care overall
Unless they're hot, of course. In that case, I add them to piss my girlfriend off

I unfriend all the time. Mostly because the new facebook newsfeed is shit. I see posts from fuckers and broads I don't give a shit about, while missing out on photo's and posts from people I actually do. I know you can change priority, but all that seems to happen is some other tardfucker ends up in my feed instead of someone I want.
Maybe I'm full of it, but it seemed early on Facebook it was way easier to see my friends posts and photos, where as now I seem to miss them half the time, and only see them when I actually visit their page and see a new album.
Anyone else have those "friends" who announce on facebook their "cleaning" their friend list?

lol.
All you have to do is unsubscribe to all the news feed of people you don't want to see.
It's a bit of a hassle at first, but eventually, you'll end up weeding out all the people.

:rukidding:
i did that once:smug:
i only have bit less than 500 and that's a pretty big task...i can't imagine people with like 1500
you don't need to unfriend people.. you can just unsubscribe.
i'm honestly only subscribed to my family, close friends and of course, RS people :)
that way, whenever i feel an inkling, i can satisfy my stalking urge with a simple search.
it prevents me from hiding outside in the bushes of peoples' houses and peering inside their windows with binoculars, maybe getting arrested :accepted:
..just kidding. but not really.
