That guy looked like a normal guy. The young black generation where it is cool to be stupid is the reason why black people face prejudice. Take for example this video, I wouldn't want my daughter dating anyone who talked like that in this video.

Personally I can handle racism or bigotry. It makes me furious.
I used to politely say 'hey that makes me uncomfortable, please stop' but I've discovered this doesn't work very well. Instead I now usually turn it around and find public humiliation is the best way to curb it by making a huge friggen scene and drawing attention and ridicule to it or cutting the person down with what ever I know bugs them them the most. If I have to be uncomfortable with what they're spewing, in my opinion they need to be just as uncomfortable. Shame and scorn, totally effective tools to ending undesirable behavior.

I 100% agree with eastwood,
I wouldnt want my daughter dating a black guy that has the education and linguistic skills of a 10 year old on xbox live.
now if the guy actually spoke properly and had a job, id be all for it, the guy in the video seemed to speak 100% proper. Unfortunatly this is very rare even to this day.

its really funny how im not racist at all but my dad is sort of in someways
for example when we talking about natives my dad would always talking about how they take all the government benefits but never give back or be productive & sometimes when i look back on the facts i do agree with him in someways, but i just wish he reword it so it doesn't sound like hes hating on natives
i think its just that some ppl word things wrong that make them sound like a racist

My sister came home once with a friend that was black and my father did about the exact same thing. They weren't even dating. I can't remember exactly what was said, as I was pretty young but it was a pretty eye-opening experience for her.
This was also the same man that said once, "I have nothing against black people. In fact, I think everyone should own one."
Usually, growing up with statements like that affect the next generation, but I guess he was so far out that it made me go the opposite.
Fuck! We've got better things to worry about than the color of someone's skin. If you want to judge, do it on the basis of their character and soul.

My aunts/uncles/grandparents love to give "names" to ppl from diff backgrounds/ppl with different skin colour. I am sure the Cantonese speaking ppl are familiar with the terms "ah cha, gwai lo, hak yun.."

I think what he means is, it doesn't matter if he's black, white, yellow, brown or green.
IF he acts like a 10 year old on a Xbox live in public, it's unacceptable. However, if he has a job, act responsible, and etc. Then he wouldn't mind him dating his daughter regardless of skin color.

before i met my gf's rents i thought it would have came down to this to be honest. Not because i assumed they were racist or anything but just because things like this is out there and i didn't know how her parents would react to all of it. But they accepted me for me (im hispanic and shes white) and it's been great.
i dont know if this is true or not, but i once heard that it's good when people get together that are off different race because the genes that they'll reproduce is different, but if let's say you do white genes and white genes, eventually down the road they will cancel eachother out. Not sure if true but it definitely made me think :accepted:

Since I was 17 I dated mostly asian women not by choice but they were who I met and had mutual interest in. As such I've been subjected to all sorts of slander and been the brunt of jokes. My daughter is half flip.
Its life I'm cool with it. The woman I'm with now is half indian half irish I'm sure I've got a long road of slurs ahead of me but thats fine its life. Stereo types follow all races and all races express them. Theres not a person alive that can deny expressing or believing in some sort of stereo types and why is that? Cus there is always some truth in them. Untill people stop lying to themselves and those around em and come to terms with that there will always be a victims and someone victamising.
I believe its not the words that hurt but the feelings accociated to those words that hurt.
Chug, nigger, chink, gook, wetback, camel jockey, spook, nipper etc those are all just words. Someone has to accociate feelings to those words to be hurt by them.
Let anything hurt you and it will and it will hold you back as a result.

No I think it's just different.
I forget sometimes because I live and work in a very multicultural place but I was just down in the states for a couple weeks and oh holy hell have I been reminded about how insane and irrational people get about anyone who appears even remotely middle eastern. And Gay is kinda the new Black down there as far as a lot issues too.
You don't have to go far from our little Vancouver bubble to be rudely awakened the fact that bigotry is still very much alive and well.

The young black generation?
I think you're a little confused.
Every generation of youth, regardless of race, think it's cool to be stupid. I personally have encountered Native, Asian, Indian, American, South African, South American, and white European young people who thrive on stupidity.
its really funny how im not racist at all but my dad is sort of in someways

Racism is more often than not the product of ignorance. There are very clearly defined reasons why First Nations people receive certain government benefits, and as a people we certainly do give back and are productive. If you agree with him, I suggest you educate yourself a little more on the Canadian governments position on First Nations people, and more broadly how we have contributed to Canada, your Dad should do the same.
Old people are racists because of all the shit that went on back then. I believe people are a lot more tolerant and understanding these days, and thank god for that. Showing compassion was a sign of weakness in the eyes of some people in the old days.
Having said all that, I cannot, in all honesty, say I am not racist, because I catch myself saying shit all the time. They are just words, but then again, words are hurtful. Perhaps it's because back then it was acceptable? I've changed a lot over the years and my wife has helped me with it. My children are uber cool. They are disgusted by some of the things I say and shame me.
So I should try to find that thread about thanking mothers and thank my wife for being a good mother to my children.
I don't think racism will ever go away, but things are getting better.

racism will never go away, we can try but it wont. I use racial slurs all the time and when someone tells me hey i dont like that, ill respect their wishes. I honestly dont care what people call me. Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

To answer the title of the thread, What would I do?
In that case I might interrupt them breifly there at the restaurant similar to the first guy and say this is 2012, I think if you two love each other go for it and as a loving father you should support your daughters position. I dont want to create a confrontation so I would just say something quick and go on with whatever I was doing.

So basically you would go up to them and say a bunch of shit that has nothing to do with the father being racist....Whether the the father supports his daughter or not has nothing to do with you....The father being racist, however, does....You would be doing something stupid if you talked to the father about anything else other than racism...

Sorry, I meant to imply that I would butt in like the first guy in that video and confront them due to the racism. (ie. this is 2012, racism is wrong and no longer accepted)
