: Classy Lounge ?

Mr.Ping
03-30-2012, 02:19 PM
I have been on a quest to find a "classy" lounge...one that either play very light techno "chillax" or soft jazz. A place where people don't talk loud and have soft lighting...

I've manage to find a few place with "soft lighting" but everywhere i go ..places is always loud and have flat screen tv everywhere..

I want a lounge..not a sportsbar...but that seems to be the "thing" nowadays...

any ideas?

The decor in 0755 lounge is more modern, but they blast the music. I wouldn't call it classy. The one time I went, it reminded me more of a Vancouver Special crowd. Menu was overpriced and "meh."

Servers were attractive and friendly but clearly inexperienced. Overall experience: I'd go back on special occasion but would not suggest it if I was looking for a lounge to go to with a friend to have a glass of wine or to wind back.

I've been having trouble finding a nice lounge myself.

I've been enjoying the lounges at Fairmont Pacific Rim and George in yaletown (though it's often packed and noisy on weekends). The lounge at Terminal City Club is nice and quiet but I think you need a membership to use it.

The problem with a lot of our live music lounges is that the space is much too small. Instead of being pleasant, the music is often ear piercing loud and you have to yell for your voice to be heard.

I'd love to hear where other people are going

HK has some nice lounges, but I don't think I ever came across any in Van that didn't blast the music...

These ones are cool

No such thing as classy anymore even the lounges that start classy start going into the sports bar theme quickly because it's a good revenue generator especially Vancouver where majority of people are active and either love to watch sports, play sports or both

don't know if this would qualify as an actual lounge, but the cellar jazz club is a nice place with live jazz music as well when they're not playing "soft jazz". The place is pretty small so I wouldn't say the noise level will get out of control.

@0755 Went there, doubt I'll go back.
Drinks are on the pricey side, hard to justify considering the atmosphere: 1. People wearing sweats 2. Old and unfriendly staff 3. Music playlist from The Beat

Try Salt Tasting Room, it's not a lounge, but it's a more chill date place.

Also, there's a Whiskey lounge somewhere in that vicinity anyone know??

Are you thinking of Shebeen, behind Irish Heather?

Not sure how popular it is now, but Narrow Lounge was a pretty chill place... More of a hipster vibe, but it's a speakeasy so definite cool-points to impress if they aren't aware of the place.

Pourhouse has live jazz on Sundays.

Just came back from 0755.
Nice place. But older crowd....
It was slow but it's a Sunday so didn't expect much
Drinks are pricey, staffs were nice tho
Overall it wasn't good nor bad. I liked it because music wasn't blasting loud and I could talk with my friends

I was driving so only had a Stella. I think it was 7.95+ tax &tip
Cocktails were $12,
VIRGIN martinis were $7
They had 8 shots for $40 special.... Then waitress came back saying they have a big party tonight blah blah can't do straight shots must be mixed.
$7.95 for a shot of Russian standard vodka and that's all I can remember from the menu haha

I haven't been there in a while but Alphamale described it as "walking into a snuff film." I went there several years ago (before it was cool :D ) and they blasted music and by no means "classy" in my opinion any way. Neat place though!

I think when it comes to an upscale bar, something like a hotel's bar/cocktail lounge is best.

Yea, 'classy' isn't what I'd describe it either I guess, but it gets mad stye points for the hipster girls. High maintenance girls need not apply. Although It's kinda sketch bringing a girl there the first time coz it's in the basement of an industrial area building down a dirty sketchy looking staircase covered in graffiti.

Chop lounge in Richmond is kinda chill, I guess.

you'll prob run into some "Pk" (poke gai) honger girls who drink and go to C-daus everyday (ones with no life) :heckno: (the ones with heavy make up who date older guys and give you the "i'm so popular" additude") typical richmond/Vancouver gangster wanabe girls :heckno:

Went there last week.

The decor is pretty modern and ballin', almost too much though. The DJ booth background looks like it was designed by Skrillex. Feels like I'm in a space ship.
There's a ginormous projector screen and tons of TV if that's what you're feeling but I suspect it's not what the OP was looking for...

Drinks are hella expensive, $7 for a Kokanee and $13 for a cocktail that I couldn't taste any alcohol. :rukidding:

Food was even worse. $16 for the smallest plate of bland-tasting pasta I've ever seen in my life and $13 for braised pork that was salty as hell.
$12 for pork gyozas ... :fuckthatshit:

I overheard the waitress say that on the weekend you need to drop $800 deposit if you want to book a party of 10. What is this Vegas?
:seriously:

My friend went there on the weekend and it was filled with mainland China kids trying to impress, popping bottles of Dom lol ...

My bill was $81 for 2 people and I left starving ... went to Deer Garden after lol ...
I wanted to like this place ... but I don't think I'll be going back ...

I heard the owner is some filthy rich dude from China, he dropped millions on this place and took 2 years to renovate.
Thick marble slab tables, big white soft leather couches, personal booths on the 2nd floor, etc ...
The servers were friendly but you could tell they were pretty new.
The Koi pond thingy at the washroom entrance was neat hehe I wonder where to get that ...

I haven't been to Bacchus at the Wedgewood in a while but I think it might fit the bill. Speaking of the bill, bring plenty of money. Probably one of my favorite places in Vancouver though.

Nope, Lulu Island is now Jang Mo Jib Korean BBQ (they have chains on Robson and Kingsway)

7 Lounge is a Kareoke lounge so it's not that quiet either. Atmosphere is nice, it's kind of an upscale "pek cheung" though. It's behind what used to be Golden Award (now Silver Tower), same parking lot with Matsuyama ... I can't recall what that exact location used to be though.

Mostly older crowd (compared to other pek cheungs full of kids) mixed in with a few honger crowds.

Pek Cheung is basically what I classify a full-on Asian style drinking place complete with sets of dice in cups and everyone screaming "sup, sup mm, HOI SAI!" :troll:

Fairmont Pacific Rim Lobby Lounge has live music on weekends and its relatively quiet.
drink is a rip off, and food is meh though
but good atmosphere if you just want to sit and socialize with a friend in a quieter setting.

ROFLMAO Bar None, Pop Opera, ?! The picture of the martini glass/olive for Alibi Room is somewhat misleading, most people go there for the beer selection; overall a bad/inaccurate list.

Hotel bars/lounges such as (UVA, Yew, Bacchus, Reflections, etc), Salt Tasting Room, Chill Winston, The Diamond, Pourhouse, L'Abbatoir may be things you're looking foor.
