Hits speeds close to 300 km/h on busy highway north of Victoria
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/04/16/bc-speeding-motorcycle-video.html
The RCMP on Vancouver Island are hoping to track down a motorcyclist who made a video recording of himself travelling at extremely high speed just outside of Victoria.
This video has shocked even veteran traffic officers.
The driver could be seen passing, weaving between other vehicles and driving along the centre line on the road.
At one point, the motorcycle was travelling at close to 300 km/h.
Investigators say it's lucky no one was killed.
The video was posted to YouTube a week ago and now Saanich police are looking for the driver.
Anyone with information is asked to contact them.

-Well known within the community, won't be difficult for the RCMP to trace his identity.

So is heroin, it's especially death defying if you use a needle you find laying on Hastings. If you're going to place your life in severe jeopardy, that's your decision and one you're entitled to make, but you cannot make that decision for other road users.
A motorcycle may weigh a fraction of what a passenger vehicle does, but at 300km/h the force of it striking another vehicle is easily enough to kill it's passengers in addition to the rider.
Pics of motorcycle/car collisions in spoiler tags, mechanical gore, but no bodies shown.

This isn't all that different from doing burn-outs at a car meet...not only is it endangering you and the people around but it's also giving bike/car enthusiasts a bad rep.
People on here have double standards.
Canadian justice system is so fucking pathetic he won't be found guilty of anything or face any serious repercussions. He's doing it all for laughs. He was very well known to police before he did this. He did this knowing he'd get away with it because the cops can't do anything about it.
Instead they'll crack down and rape anyone on two wheels all summer, and collect thousands and thousands of fines from people who actually have something to lose. And he'll keep riding his uninsured bike, with no license, and not a single fuck will be given. Sad.

April 19th, 2012
Saanich police believe they have seized the motorcycle that was at the centre of a storm of public outrage after an internet video showed its being driven at extremely high speed on the Trans Canada Highway.
Police say it was a tip from a member of the public that led them to the suspect bike....a blue Yamaha. They say it bears scratches and other marks that match those visible in the video.
The motorcycle's owner is an Esquimalt woman...but police do not believe she was the offending driver. Suspicion at the moment is focussed on her son, who had already amassed a significant record of traffic offenses.

You Tube motorcycle seized, but no charges against driver
April 19th, 2012
Saanich Police have seized a motorcycle seen in a You Tube video blasting down the Trans Canada Highway at nearly 300 km/h.
The video is shot from a motorcyclist’s perspective as he weaves through rush hour traffic in Saanich.
Now, that bike – a blue Yamaha R1 – is in police possession.
Police think the incident took place on April 6. Shortly after that, a public tip identified the bike and its location in the 800 block of Admirals Road, Esquimalt.
Officers found and photographed the bike. They then forensically matched it to the bike in the You Tube video by comparing scratches and other marks.
Police may have the bike. But, charging the rider is a different story.
"The registered owner of this particular bike is the mother of the person that we believe, allegedly, was driving," says Sergeant Dean Jantzen. "Unfortunately, at this point we are unable to meet the burden to proceed with criminal code charges. However, we have relied upon specific provisions in the motor vehicle act to take action against the registered owner of this vehicle."
Sergeant Jantzen says, even though the owner wasn't driving, she is ultimately responsible and faces the following penalties:
•A violation ticket, charged with driving without due care and attention - $368 penalty.
•Excessive speeding - $483 penalty.
•No insurance - $598 penalty.
•That totals $1,449 in penalties.
Police are also looking to impound the vehicle and possibly seizing in permanently using civil forfeiture procedures.
Police suspect the rider in the video is a 25 year old local man with only a class 8 license, which requires supervision. That driver has 27 driving infractions to his name and 5 previous license suspension. But, at this time, the alleged speeder does not face any criminal charges.

And from The Sun:
The 25-year-old suspected motorcyclist has no valid driver's licence and no insurance as a result of 27 driving-related convictions including speeding and driving without insurance, Jantzen said. He has had his licence suspended five times.
The driver also only had a learner's motorcycle licence, which was also suspended.
I hope this guy gets off. I mean I know what he did was terrible but sometimes you gotta root for the bad guy!
This guy isn't some sort of anti-hero, he's a fucking moron. If he'd hurt or killed someone, he and his mother could have been sued for millions. If the other person was from out-of-province (ie. not covered by ICBC) there may be no coverage for them at all - some douchebag third-party insurance company could decide not to cover them at all.

Exactly.
There's a huge difference in risk and potential disaster between just going fast, and weaving arount/through traffic.
I'm not going to say that in my years of driving I've always been a saint, but I always drew the line at weaving through traffic & rat racing.

I know that this incident happened on the Island, but it is sort of another example on why people need an outlet (Racetrack) to take care of their speed needs. I am not saying just because a couple race tracks were built people would stop spending in public. More and more people are getting faster cars/bikes in the lower mainland (I assume also on the island) with no real race track to use and test the speed their cars are capable of.
List of race tracks that I know of (that are close)
Lower Mainland - NONE
Fraser Valley - Mission, Aggasiz
Island - Saratoga (Nanaimo, Western Speedway (Victoria)
Mission the only one with a decent road course.
Dream note*
I always dream of some mountain circuit in the north shore mountains. The straight away being at sea level with the course climbing and descending the mountain side with trees over hanging the track in some parts. Maybe it has a tunnel at some point. Having F1, GT class, Bike races, hot lap events, drifting etc etc. You could also do it in a green, and economical way. You would need the government, public, and someone with a ALOT of cash to get it done though. Im in school to be a real estate developer so maybe one day I could make it happen. Don't hold you breathe though.

Unfortunately, this kind of clown doesn't care about just "how fast it goes", he only cares about seeing what kind of an asshole he can be and get away with it. Given how his mom is covering up for him, it's probably a learned behaviour.

riding a 1000cc sport bike is like being tempted to the dark side..... POWAAAAAAAAA!
yes it is hella exciting till u get busted...
Randy Scott, the man charged with dangerous driving in connection with a high-speed motorcycle ride documented on YouTube, has turned himself in.
Police have been searching for the driver of a Yamaha sport bike since early April, when a video camera mounted on the bike documented the rider weaving in and out of traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway at up to 299 km/h. Scott, 25, who was charged July 10, turned himself in to Kelowna police Tuesday just after 7 p.m.
Investigators decided “to turn up the heat,” Saanich Police Sgt. Dean Jantzen said Wednesday. Local police contacted family, friends and other community members to try to reach Scott. They also worked with police from the Lower Mainland and as far as Edmonton, where Scott had an address on record, Jantzen said.
“We could not have gotten where we are today without the tips we received,” he said. “We were at a loss to be able to charge the driver when we were first public about this and we’re in a much better place today, solely based on tips that have come to us from the public.”
Scott was scheduled to appear at a bail hearing in Kelowna this morning.
“Hopefully this is the beginning of the end to this particular incident,” said Jantzen.
The blue 2006 Yahama valued at $8,000, which police says belongs to Scott’s mother, is in provincial government custody. In April, she was issued $1,449 in traffic tickets in connection with the incident.

Speeding motorcycle caught on YouTube sold at auction
The bike was sold last week for $4,651.76
Jesse Johnston Aug 22, 2012 16:23:02 PM
VICTORIA (NEWS1130) - If you wanted to, you could have bought the motorcycle that was traveling 299kph on Vancouver Island for less than $5,000.
A video of the bike weaving through traffic while the speedometer hovered around 300kph was posted on YouTube and has now been seen by more than 1.5 million people.
Saanich police seized the bike earlier this year and the BC government put it up for auction.
It sold last week to someone using the handle 4x4albert for $4,651.76.
The buyer might have a little trouble getting the 2006 Yamaha R1 started, though.
The BC Auction website says it's missing an important piece.
"Please note that there is no ignition chip key included with this motorcycle so the bike will not start and the onboard computer will not work without this key," the website says.
Randy Scott, 25, has been charged with dangerous driving. Scott turned himself in to police in Kelowna last month.
He will be appearing in provincial court in Victoria in October.
