I have a Canon T2i and a few SD memory cards. I want to test the read speeds when transferring files from the camera to the computer. Any software that will do this?

Thanx. Non of the programs would recognize my camera so I used the laptops card reader. My cheap class 4 Hp SD card maxed out at 21.2. My new Panasonic class 10 that claims 90 mb read speed maxed out 21.1. I think the card reader and USB 2.0. is holding the speeds back.

Get a USB3 or Express Card (if you are on laptop) readers. :)

It could be the card reader, too. USB 2.0 has a max bandwidth of 480Mbit/s (60MB/s), and Manic's testing at not even half that rate.

I'm using some software that controls my camera. After the Camera records for 30 seconds the video file is transferred to the computer. I am trying to reduce the transfer time because when the file is transferring the camera cannot be used.

What are you trying to accomplish? Wouldn't it be ideal for the video output to just go straight to the computer?

doesn't you card reader have to be UHS-1 compatible to achieve those speeds? and 90mb is not sustained, it's UP to.

The camera is controlled buy a computer touch screen. it would be better to got straight to the computer but that's not how the software works.

I believe you are right. So now the question is what would be the fastest SD card for the Cannon T2i

i think any decent class 10 card will be fast enough for the t2i to run out of its buffer. having said that, i use extreme III sdhc cards in mine, 'cause they've been so cheap at B&H and several sales at BB/FS.

It's not the photo buffer I'm worried about it's the transfer speed of the video file from camera to computer.

well you said for the canon t2i.

1) if ur connecting ur camera via usb to transfer files, buy two cards so you can use ur camera when another card is transferring

2) get a faster card reader

OK I returned the Panasonic card and picked up a Sandisk ultra that claims 30MB/S. I did a test and got 41.2MB/S. Kinda surprised. I thought my car reader in my laptop was holding me back, but I guess that's not the case.

did u get an ultra or the extreme? the extreme can sustain that advertised speed i think. is the 41.2mb/s the max/average/sustained?

the panny card i have in a P&S is a lot better than the cheap $9.99 16gb crap they always have on sale, but i guess you proved that the sandisk is still better.
