Plasti Dip FAIL

We all know how this product could do wonders to our cars, bikes, tools, etc. But it seems like nobody has started any threads about the FAILs on this forum, after searching about this topic. I'll start :okay:

M.O.R.E.
Instead of the grille and window frame chrome trim he probably clicked "select inverse" and painted everything else :lawl:
I'm going to guess that these were the guys (fobs) that made the Craigslist posting about plastidipping cars. Watched too much dipyourcar.com videos.

do yourself and the rest of us on the road, a huge favour and at least peel it off your fckin headlights and taillights
IF you do plasti dip your car (for whatever reason) it can be done right.. can't find pics now, but there's a guy on the G35 forums who did his whole car, except he did it in his paint shop with proper mixing of the liquids and proper equipment and everything, and it came out looking as smooth as vinyl wrap, not blotchy and rough like out of a can...
He warned others if you do it his way not to set the nozzle pressure too high, otherwise the plasti dip will rip your clear coat off when you decide to take it off.

I don't know what's more wrong with that picture. The sorry excuse of masking the front windows, the use of a wagner paint gun, the fact that they're spraying plasti-dip, or the fact that the guy is barefoot.

^looks great Jon and nice PS. What did you do??
well my friend swfk took the photos. if you're asking about the lip, i taped off the upper section of the lip and plastidipped the rest. it gives the appearance of a regular type r lip plus what looks like a splitter in the front.
this is what the lip looked like before:
http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n405/SpoonCTREK9/Khloefront1280x1024.jpg
this car was my inspiration:
http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n405/SpoonCTREK9/eklip.jpg
the above car actually has a CF version of the same lip and what he did was paint the upper portion white. so since i had the lip in white already, i just did the reverse and plastidipped :D

ok can someone clarify this for me. What is Plasti dip for? is is temporary paint? trim? some random paint product someone decided would look cool to coat their car in?
im serious. That first black car looks like someone shot undercoating all over it...
ZordosZZ
04-26-2012, 08:28 AM
i think it's original purpose is to give tools and other things a rubber coating for scratch protection/ extra grip.
then people started painting the interior trims for a while and it eventually starting spreading outwards to wheels/outer body
i did my roof and hatch. not the greatest job on my roof but it's good protection against rock chips, my hood could really use it from all my highway commute

Got all my fairings painted on the Husky pearl white for less than $350, you sir got ripped off, this also included prep work.
Plasti dip is a cheap job just for temporary coverup, I would never paint a whole car/bike with plasti dip, looks like shit, and you can tell its not something thats meant to stick. It fades and loses color super fast.
Plasti dip is a DIY paint. If you cant DIY then you shouldn't even consider it.
