Looking for a good 24" Monitor for games and movies.

From other threads the best is dell but I can not find any locally.
What is the best LCD non ips then?

NCIX has 24"s every week. However, today is Dell's last day, on their Days of Deals specials, and they have a 24" for a good discount. It's not the Ultra (IPS), but it's still good:

DELL Dell - Professional P2412H 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor with LED : Computer Components | Dell Canada (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors_Flat_Panel_Widescreen/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdt1&sku=320-2776)

Shipping is free. Unless you want something tomorrow, then I'd go for this deal.

I don't understand this thread ...

You don't want Dell ... Okay, some people don't like certain brands I guess ...

You don't want IPS, but want the best monitor for movies and games? WTF man?

TN+Film = Okay for games, sucks shit for movies (6-bit/pixel colour, terrible viewing angles, terrible colour accuracy)
MVA/PVA = Great for movies, sucks shit for games (highest input lag of any LCD panel type)
IPS = Great for both

OP doesn't want to go dell route because I presume he wants to see one in person before pulling the trigger..or needs in within 2 weeks that it normally takes to ship from Dell's US warehouse.

they often have okay sale prices on 20-27" LCD, and pretty good deal if you can stack a few coupons on it..

might have to just suck it up and buy from dell.
I just don't like playing the waiting game...

And those monitors recommended are 1920x1080 resolution.
Current monitor is 1920x1200... not gonna downgrade and want to dual it up

some people aren't that sensitive to picture quality, as long as the monitor doesn't have ghosting and dead pixels, then they are happy. Philips has some best LED TN panels I have seen. Last time I was in a monitor store, their Philips 247E3LHSU quality is as good as some IPS monitors if you stand straight front of it. Of course, all monitors need calibration, you will need explorer on it and read more reviews.

from my experience, low quality panels (all of which i've tried are non-IPS) need to be at a certain brightness to hide their non-uniformity. unfortunately, i like my screens a little darker than normal because i stare at them for long periods of time. after calibration, my previous non-IPS panels had different color temperatures at different areas of the screens. at high brightness, which is what they show at a store, the problem would go away (or be masked imo). my old IPS panel still calibrates to match nicely with my newer IPS panel.

that's not to say all TN panels are shit. you just need to do your research. read the reviews on TFT Central - LCD Monitor Information, Reviews, Guides and News (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk)

I'm very happy with my Samsung TN. But if I could afford it I'd get a Dell IPS

CAD159 for a 24" Dell IPS.... you can't get a better deal than this. I see TN panels sell for more than this.
Not gonna happen

I would go with that dell but the resolution is the only problem.

Regretting not buying the 2412m when it was on sale for 269 now. Hopefully it will go on sale again

16:10 is more comfortable for word processing
if you primarily use it for entertainment i'd prefer 16:9

OP said he already has a 1920x1200 and wants another one to dual it up.

I agree with SkinnyPupp, samsung TN panels are pretty good. I have the 2443BW myself as main overall usage.

Samsung SyncMaster S24A850DW 24IN Widescreen LED Pls LCD Monitor 1920X1200 5ms 300CDM DVI DP Pivot - Samsung - LS24A850DW/ZA (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=64741&vpn=LS24A850DW%2FZA&manufacture=Samsung)

^ On a curious note, what are you developing? Graphical ?

Yeah, if you don't mind the waiting game and shipping back and forth ( if dead pixel) then going for a Dell is the best route.

GL. I'll post in this thread if i see any dell deals on monitors

OP check openboxco. I got a high end refurb dell off them 4-5 years ago, still running strong!

IIRC they're located in surrey
