also share some memories of vancouver club history for some of the youngins.

Funktion Fridays @ The Big Bamboo and Daddyo's. The hydraulic cages were quite something for us when we were 19. Now, condos are on that block (the Denny's is still there though.)
A few off the top of my head:
- Sonar - Grande Wednesdays
- Purple Onion on Saturday nights
- Pure (or whatever it was called) on Kingsway
- Viva Club in Richmond
- The Shark Club on Lougheed (where Joey now is)
- The old Bimini's (before it burned down and became a Donnelly Pub)
- Plaza for the first couple of years (great house music on Saturday nights)
the rage became plush which is now gossip.
plaza -> venue
stone temple -> joseph richards
cherry bay -> modern -> post modern
tonic -> has some weird name now

I was on Granville Street on Saturday night to meet some drunk friends and my, what a gong show that place has become. There are still some decent places left like the Roxy and Bar None, but I feel sad for the kids these days.

The Shark Club used to put the tables away on Saturday nights and bring a DJ in.
Here's another one: the current Red Room used to be "The Drink."
And can we start discussing the many gentlemen's clubs this city used to have? :lol

Now its "unrented office space"
http://www.mediamarketjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/stefan.jpg
If you're looking for class b rental space with a hint of must in the air, then you need to go to "unrented office space". Junkies down below, fine clientele in the pay by the week hotel upstairs and something funny about midgets, this club is for you"
There was that one in burnaby on kingsway by Tim Hortons that got leveled for another condo tower too.
Now: strip clubs.
NBI is still there, no longer a show lounge and no longer NBI. Mugs closed and re-opened in Surrey. Um...that one in East Van that wasn't the #5...had the sleazy "hump your stripper" hotel upstairs.
Dammit..can't remember the name. We only went once and it was horrible.
Great68

My best memories are from the Fraser Arms, that time when they had the stripping waitresses, $8 pitchers, and $2 appies. At midnight all 4 waitresses would go up on the stage at the same time.
I can't stand dance clubs though. Went to a bunch when I was 19-20, pretty much always sucked. Not for me.

My friends and I actually miss Fraser Arms quite a bit. It was a 5 min drive from our house, no cover, they had toonie time ($2 for food), and strippers all be it they were not usually that great but we didn't go for the girls anyways but the food. If the girls were decent it was just a bonus.

When Cecil closed that was a big loss to Granville Street, not only was it a great peeler bar but it had a lot of interesting Vancouver history associated with it. In the seventies, before it became a peeler bar, it was the location of the founding meetings of Greenpeace.

Is that what Celebrities is like, not on a tuesday?
Pretty much.
Even to this day Celebrities is the most down to earth & most fun club to go to in the downtown core, they also play the best music.
I use to work there.
Celebrities dance floor & bar setup ftw

The music, atmosphere, vibe. The people that go there are just looking for a good time, not a fight or any other sort of trouble, also no gangster wannabes staring you down trying to act all hard and shit.
You should go check it out and see for yourself.
Tuesdays is still straight night? Celebs is always good times. Lots of young'uns there too.
Library Square on Fridays for your 90's night.

i always hear that celebs tuesday is always packed as hell. Is it because alot of ppl hv nothing to do on tuesday + everywhere is closed therefore they go down there?
