RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - Two brothers in their teens are dead after an accident in Richmond.
RCMP were called to the scene around 3:05 a.m.
"This happened at Number 4 Road and Steveston in Richmond." explains Staff Sgt Dave Conrod with Richmond RCMP. "It appears that a single vehicle struck a tree. The driver, who was believed to be under the influence of a substance, was taken to hospital."
RCMP confirm the passenger side of the vehicle was the initial impact point, killing a 16 and 19-year-old, who are brothers. The driver was taken to Vancouver General Hospital with minor injuries, but has since been released.
Mounties say speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Names are not being released at this time as the next of kin is being notified.
RIP, drinking and driving is a no... how hard is that to understand? lol

Every year we get this kind of shit.
Just yesterday when I was getting bubble tea, two cars packed with teens blasting gayass music so loud thinking they were all cool and shit. Driver was so drunk trying to tell me he likes my sunglasses or some shit.
I seriously hoped he doesn't kill all his friends that night.
No keys to these kids please.

Would they have crashed if they were driving a Corolla? Just wondering... If you give really young people powerful cars then it is more likely that they will feel the need to exploit that power and take risks.
Nevertheless, drinking and driving is really stupid. RIP to the two kids.

But with a Corolla you speed up and it isn't "fun" because you have no power and the car has no reflexes compared to a BMW. The BMW will make you want to drive faster because of its power delivery and quick response to driver inputs. You feel like you're in control of the car. Not disagreeing with you about speed but I think kids are more likely to take risks depending on the cars they drive.
That's why I believe kids should drive a Corolla or a Civic as a beginner car before getting anything with more power.
Anyway, back on topic now.

No man you got it all opposite. If the kids drove a civic they'd be like "VTEC KICKED IN YOOO". Thankfully they were driving a bimmer with it's shitty Vanos. :lawl:

Not true. Remember the thread about the vehicles with the most fatalities? 305Z is number one, despite being a 5-star rated vehicle in crash tests and having all the safety bells & whistles (ABS, traction control, stability control).
The 350Z gives the driver the feeling like they're "on rails" and this kind of false confidence is why the 350Z is #1.
I can remember several high-profile crashes over the last few years. There was the BMW at #1 and 1st avenue that killed (I think) 4 people, the BMW last year driving on the #1 through construction zone that hit a truck, the 350Z with the two Korean students and the 350Z downtown near BC Place. Two 350Z's and 3 BMW's. Too high to be a coincidence.
RIP to the passengers and a big fuck you to the driver.

Damn...right before Mother's Day too.
About the whole speeding thing: the car's capability leading to overconfidence is a valid point, but in the end it doesnt matter what youre driving. One has to RESPECT the power of any car because at their core, they're just rolling metal boxes just as lethal as the other.

I totally agree. I've done 180 in my civic. Any car is capable of unsafe speed and unsafe driving. It's all up to the person behind the wheel to control themselves so they don't do stupid shit like this. RIP. I've driven while intoxicated before and after ending up in the ditch I took myself through some deep personal therapy to make sure I never do such a stupid thing ever again.
As a parent, I can't imagine the sorrow the parents feel. Condolences to the them, especially when it's this time of year when Mother's day is tomorrow and Father's day is next month.
Here's hoping karma gives it back to the driver.

Used to seeing the victim walking around my neighborhood. They went to my elementary school before too. I sincerely hope that kids will remember this incident when they are faced with a similar choice and weigh the bleakness of this situation and that it could just as easily happen to them.

Such a waste of life.

I say it because whether or not the action was stupid, death is something everyone fear and wish to avoid for many years. They left behind their mother (day before mothers day) family and friends, its a rough time for everyone that knows em for sure, only reason why I said that, ill even say it if thw drunk driver died but will give that person shit for being an idiot
@ redlines, in no way luder and I saw this as a laughing matter, I guess the misuse of that is so common in our talks, we didn't see it as "laugh out loud" more of a sarcaastic facepalm way

Any car with all the latest gadget won't save you from sudden deceleration from very high speeds... especially what you hit are aging infrastructure, that are designed to last vs save lives.

For your future reference. If i were you, I would have just called the cops on them not because to screw them over but to protect a possible deadly accident that could occur. Who knows maybe they'll hit a car whom you might have known but you could have prevented it.. (Just giving as an example.. nothing personal :p)..

I went to same high school as 2 victims. Rest in peace Moses Brothers. Two young men taken much much too early by the stupidity and irresponsibility of another.
Sincere Condolences to the mother and father..... Who have truly lost everything.... No words can describe the feeling that I ( a stranger) am feeling, let alone the parents.
May the driver (R W) face the fullest extent of the unmerciful law.
This goes without saying but: Let this be a lesson that EVERYONE learns from, for overall driving safety, not just drunk driving. Sure alcohol was the biggest factor but inexperience behind the wheel and general disregard for safety also played a big part. Bottom line: impaired driving is JUST NOT WORTH IT any way you cut it ....
Just think of the poor Moses parents the next time you try to turn the key while drunk or let someone else turn the key while drunk. Also think of them when you step on that right pedal for too long or weave erratically, endangering not only yourself, but innocent people in the vicinity.
One of the MOST PREVENTABLE leading causes of death, period. Biggest shame.
Rest in peace Moses Brothers.

I guarantee that the driver started his life sentence that night.
I knew a guy who killed his friend while drinking and driving back in the 90's. Long story short he never got over the fact he killed his best friend and took his own life last year. 15 years later and his own guilt never let him forget.
What a waste this whole situation is.
But worst of all Mrs. Moses lost her whole future that night.
So sad...

I'm friends with the driver and chilled with Shane a couple of times, he was a good guy. Although it was a bad idea riding in a drunk drivers car, no one deserves for something like this to happen. Condolences to the family and RIP to Shane and Jess. Whole thing feels unreal, but hopefully people can learn from this that drinking and driving is never a good option or risk to take, whether you're the passenger or driver.

I went to the same high school as both brothers and hung out with Shane once through mutual friends. Great guys without a doubt.
Sad to hear this happen but such is life. We all make stupid decisions in our life and just so happen some end tragically. Ill admit and I'm sure a good chunk of Revscene has also done the same at one point in their life got into a car with a drunk driver.
The kicker is that Mrs. Moses is on a cruise so doesn't know about the news as of yet. Not sure if she's back yet as of today.

You know this crash could have happened even with a sober driver. Sure, alcohol may have played a factor, but it's not like catastrophic crashes don't happen with sober drivers. Would those condemning the dead passengers be as crass if the driver was sober?

I went to same high school as 2 victims. Rest in peace Moses Brothers. Two young men taken much much too early by the stupidity and irresponsibility of another.
Unless they were forced into the car by the driver, it was their own stupidity and irresponsibility that led them to this outcome. They should have never got into the vehicle to begin with, knowing their friend was drunk.
Not only did the driver think he was invincible, but the passengers did as well. All it would have taken was for one of the passengers to say that he didn't feel comfortable getting in the car, and that it was a dumb idea to drive, and they all would have probably ditched the driving idea, and the brothers would be alive right now.
i knew the older brother, and though he wasn't the most innocent kid or best student, he sure was a cool guy to hang out with. i've heard that everybody in the car had had alcohol, and that just may be a rumour, but i wouldn't doubt it. whether it was stupidity, negligence or drunkenness, nobody deserves this. not the 2 kids who were still so young, and not the family

i heard he'd left town shortly thereafter to get away from it all (who can blame him...hell a 'best friend'
is mostly responsible for the deaths of his 'best buddies', as the driver that deadly night....shit who can handle THAT).
i also heard he lived almost next door to the moses family; and that the father of the moses boys forgave him at the official memorial/'celebration of life' (I got this from a couple of gals I spoke with at the roadside memorial, and had attended the official 'celebration of life' for the two brothers)
