The Android Rivalry

HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3

I think it is a good time to discuss this issue.
On paper most of the specs are identical aside from the storage issue where S3 has the clear win.

With everything in the picture. Which one will you purchase and why?

Given Samsung seeming to have a lot of quality control issues from reviews, the one x seems a little more tempting to me. I just don't know if I can get over not having a removable battery. For me I'd have to think about that one

But dat exynos

What about the HTC One X killing background apps if left unattended for 30 seconds???
No problem with HTC One X multitasking: HTC

Quote:
Earlier some users claimed that the HTC One X's memory management system automatically kills any possible application running in the background if it is left unattended for more than 30 seconds. So if you are browsing and you get redirected to Google Play Store then after 30 seconds your browser will automatically shut down. Hence, you have to continue from the beginning and start the application again for re assuming the browsing. But in a statement sent to The Verge, HTC stated that there is absolutely no problem with the One X or with its operating system. But it has all to do with the Sense User interface for which the memory control feature has been tweaked to provide a better user experience.
"HTC is aware of some questions in the enthusiast community about how the HTC One X handles multitasking and memory management for background apps. We value the community's input and are always looking for ways to enhance customers experience with our devices. That said, right now multitasking is operating normally according to our custom memory management specifications which balance core ICS features with a consistent HTC Sense experience," HTC said in its statement.
This seems like a pretty big pain in the ass imo, but it is user dependent

eh? my programs i have opened are always in the background so i never have that problem. i ordered myself the S3 so i should be able to do a quick comparison with my one x as they are both the international version

one thing i don't understand about the s3 though... so since it comes with a microsd slot that supports up to 64gb.. why does the phone come in 3 size? 16 32 64gb?? we really need a 128gb phone??

I got to play with a S3 today... one of our clients works with Samsung in their ads campaign got one as a gift from Samsung.

I gotta say, it's pretty disappointing... the screen on the One X is definitely a step up (subjectively to my eyes) to the S3 when you have them side-by-side

And the overall flow seems to be smoother on the One X too. Maybe the new processor in the S3 just isn't as optimized as the Tegra3.

And even comparing to the S2, the S3 felt... cheap...

I just ordered the international Htc one x (black) over the samsung s3.

I do agree that the s3 offer more features than the hox. But tbh, its not really significant to be a deal breaker for me. I prefer design and quality! Black is nicer than "pebble" blue

HTC One X for me

HTC One X isn't without it's fair share of issues:

Screen Flex that it pops out of the phone
Dust behind the glass due to rippling and flexing of the screen
Hot phone
Yellow spots on the phone
Yellow tint due to the lamination process
Housing coating issues
- CNA ENGLISH NEWS

There's probably a numerous others as well.

30% of HTC One X owners in a poll of over 1000 on XDA stated they had some sort of issue.

I'm not saying the S3 won't have just as many issues but there is no such thing as a flawless phone.

I do agree with Hehe though. The 720p Super-LCD is better than the Amoled one.

all phone honestly will have their fair shares of problem. One X is a good phone, Samsung S3 will probably be a good phone. But majority of the ppl will buy the S3 over the One X is because of the name. people know samsung, a lot of ppl don't have a clue what htc is.

arguing over specs is the thing of the past guys
Thats how I see it.

Just watching Samsung do their S3 presentation solidified my stance on the statement. It was very software focused and how their device can be adapted to everyday use

Yeah I can see that being a huge issue. I thought dust in the screen housing was an issue of the past. Unacceptable on a flagship imo.

Cant say I'm surprised that hehe says the S3 feels cheap, samsung uses thin plastic. Flagship build quality = to Samsung it seems

^^^^^ the S3 uses polycarbonate as well though for its case but supposedly feels tacky

oneX>s3 imo anyway although the camera is awful (saturation and sharpening that would put apple to shame) havent seen/heard anything in regards to the S3s camera

but the OneX looks way better and it has the better screen... Pentile on the S3 and people bitch at nokia for nHD rgb amoled...

where did you order it from?? did you just end up buying one from ebay?

honestly im caught in the same dilemma. only thing really keeping me from buying the htc one x is how the camera protrudes outwards.. keep hearing in reviews that it gets scratched so easily. other than that i love the phone. plus im really starting to like that new sense ui over samsungs touch wiz.

my vote goes to One X..especially since it's available now instead of samsung's lame ass paper launch like they did with the S II and the G Nexus

the Tegra 3 One X is on sale for $500...better than the $650-700 price tag the S III will carry when carriers decided to sell it outright in july

Is the camera on the one x that bad? I was watching some YouTube reviews and they were saying even the gnex captures more detail.

Which devices have you owned in the past? I personally have had nothing but positive things to say from HTC's star line up. Their flagship phones have never failed me and even their older Windows Mobile phones were of solid quality.

I believe my first HTC phone was the HTC Diamond. Unique and ahead of the curve at the time. I went to the HTC HD as well as the HTC Touch Pro 2; loved those phones at the time. Last HTC device I had was the HTC Nexus One and that was certainly one of the most solid phones I've ever had. Awesome build quality, screen quality and call clarity. In fact, I even had my HTC Diamond in my swimming shorts and forgot about it when I went into my hot tub and managed to fully recover it without losing any form or function.

Based on my experiences, I imagine your experience will be limited to the class of phones you purchase.

like people said...the specs aren't really a deal breaker.
most replies from people are preference than actual deal breaking facts
but I'm curious about what Hehe said..
how did the S3 feel cheap exactly?

S3 uses a lot of plastics for the build of the phone. Which makes it very light and feel less solid. Although this doesn't necessarily mean it feels cheap. My Galaxy Nexus feels actually really good and it's all plastic.

HTC One X (LTE with Snapdragon)

I have a GS2 and to be honest I don't see the real benefit of upgrading your phone (Android) this year if you have something similar. Almost all the high end phones from last year have ICS now, these 2012 phones are still running ICS.

Best to wait for JB.
