Anyone pass by and see what happen? Like 14 cop cars came in total. A bunch of them took off on foot down royal oak.
An Altima pulls up with flashing lights and these cops look like they're pretty high up.. wearing suits. Seems like a pretty big deal.
Stay away from this area traffic jam starting to build

no it wasn't.. i was driving by there at 10pm and there was only 1 cop car there at first. then the cops took off running down royal oak and then about 10 more cop cars came in total. last i saw they were roping off the whole street. definitely happened at night time.

The section on Imperial past Macpherson to Royal Oak was blocked off with cop cars and fire trucks at around 11AM. It was really strange because none of the police or others were doing anything, just directing people to back and loop to Rumble or something.
I order from that restaurant a lot and dine in too, would never think that 2 people would be killed in there.

Like last night when I posted..? Or are you saying it happened the night before I posted. I find that highly unlikely cause I actually saw a shitload of cops run down the street.. Makes no sense that they would be chasing someone a day later. Maybe something else happened the day before.

Possible double homicide in Burnaby
Bodies were found in a restaurant last night
Adam Forsythe May 28, 2012 03:22:17 AM
BURNABY (NEWS1130) - There has been a possible double homicide in Burnaby. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is on scene at a restaurant on Royal Oak Avenue between Kingsway and Grimmer Street.
A person walking along Royal Oak last night spotted one of the bodies inside the restaurant. Burnaby RCMP was called and discovered a second body inside the closed eatery.
Sergeant Jennifer Pound says it appears foul play is involved.
“IHIT is leading this investigation and although it is in the early stages it appears to be a double homicide. Our priority is to identify the victims and determine their connection to each other."
The investigation is expected to last well into the morning. Tune into News1130 for the latest developments and for traffic every ten minutes on the ones for the latest information on the street closure along Royal Oak.

Sounds a little like the first guy died inside restaurant and the second guy got stabbed but made it to outside the restaurant before dying ?

maybe... gunshots can easily go unnoticed or ignored...

where did you get that from? nothing suggests a body was outside and in fact one of the reports says 2 of them were found inside the restaurant and another report indicating 1 of the bodies was visible from the outside looking in by the passerby

so the victims 1 male, 1 female, "were known to each other but not related" and its believed they were targeted and shot shortly after closing
based on comments in here its a husband/wife ran shop but the victims aren't related
was someone cheating and the other killed or had them killed?
I should be spending my time on other things than trying to computer sherlock holmes this like working....
side note im surprised their sushi place was so popular considering sushi oyama is right across from it or does everyone know that place used to be a crematorium waaaay back in the day and so is turned off

It's popular because its cheap. A 'party tray' that would cost $37+ at T&T costs $20 there and you get discount if you order past 8PM or something like that.
Really hoping it's not the owner and the wife for the sake of the kid :( And they were always polite and quick with the orders

Some updates.
Burnaby restaurant owner, woman, gunned down inside business (http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Burnaby+restaurant+owner+woman+gunned+down+inside+ business/6689316/story.html)
So it was the owner, and a woman, maybe a customer?
METRO VANCOUVER -- The owner of a tiny Burnaby sushi restaurant was gunned down Sunday night, along with a woman inside the business at the time.
Huong (Andy) Tran and the woman were found by police shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday inside Tran's Royal Oak Sushi House restaurant.
The woman's identity is not yet being released by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team pending notification of next of kin.
But Tran was confirmed as the man seen lying on the floor of the restaurant by a passerby about half an hour after the business' scheduled 9 p.m. closing time.
Neither Tran, nor the second victim, have any criminal record or were known to police.
Tran bought the small restaurant in 2005, according to corporate records, from a Vancouver restaurant owner named Binh Brian Ly. Ly said Monday that he had not kept in touch with Tran and had no idea what might have happened Sunday night.
IHIT remained on the scene of the double murder at 6514 Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby. More than a block of Royal Oak south of Kingsway was behind police tape, which was expected to remain up until Monday evening.
IHIT's Sgt. Jennifer Pound said the two victims appear to have been targeted though the murder is not believed to be gang-related.
Neighbouring businesses were forced to remain closed Monday morning. Workers and others who were able to open were shocked by news that two people linked to the sushi café had been slain.
Pound said the victims were not known to police and that investigators are searching for a motive.
"They don't have a motive at this point. They have got the tact troop out there and they are canvassing the area and they are looking to speak with any witnesses that have any information," Pound said.
Police are also collecting video surveillance footage in the area and looking into the background of the victims, who were not related though known to each other.
While the two victims were shot, there were no reports of shootings made to police at the time, Pound confirmed.
Asked if it was possible the business had financial troubles, Pound said investigators "are looking into it. They really are looking into the motive right now."
There is a bank on one side of the sushi place and a car wash on the other. All are in a small strip mall at Royal Oak and Kingsway.
The neighbouring businesses were not open when the bodies were found, Pound said.
"We are relying strictly on witnesses in the residential area," she said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

yeah. i think why we care so much is that apparently this restaurant and its staff are well known in this area to locals. also from what we know so far they weren't any sort of 'bad people' or had something to hide.
it's more sad when they seem like hard-working upstanding citizens rather than gangbangers.

Armed and dangerous suspect shot in Maple Ridge - News1130 (http://www.news1130.com/news/local/article/367984--armed-and-dangerous-suspect-shot-in-maple-ridge)
BURNABY (NEWS1130) - Angus David Mitchell has died in hospital after exchanging shots with police in Maple Ridge near 132nd . He was wanted for attempted murder and was believed to be carrying a high-powered rifle with a scope.
Burnaby RCMP were searching for Mitchell after his former landlord was shot in front of his home in Burnaby last night.
Superintendent Dave Walsh says Mitchell was alive when they left the scene but the 26-year-old has since been taken off life support.
"Shots were fired between the suspect and Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team members. We are certainly pleased none of our officers are injured at this point in time."
A tip came in an hour after Burnaby RCMP made the public warning. Mitchell was discovered in his green van in a rural area near 224th and 132nd street.
He is believed to have been armed with a high-powered Mossberg Maverick rifle with a scope. Mounties don't think Mitchell has the gun illegally; they believe he bought it.
Police think he's been living out of his 1994 green Ford Aerostar van. They say he has been evicted from a few places in the past and he was fired from another job.
Mitchell recently posted an angry rant on his Facebook page that seems to be aimed at his former employer.
Victoria Police are meeting with the man who recently fired Mitchell from his job at Themis Security Inc. His parting with the company was reportedly bitter and the owner is now worried for the safety of the employees.
He is a former security guard. He is 5'4" tall and weighs 121 pounds. He is not known to police.
Neighbour describes last night's shooting
There's still police tape around a two-storey home on Gilpin Crescent just off Willingdon near Metrotown. The victim of last night's shooting in hospital with serious injuries.
We spoke with one neighbour who ran to help a man who'd appeared to have been shot in the shoulder last night. He says the victim was conscious, but bleeding profusely.
"I thought he had an accident... He said 'I got shot,'" he explains. "I called the RCMP. I called 911, my wife called 911. I told them someone was shot."
He believes a Mandarin-speaking family lives at the home, including two teenaged daughters.
Mitchell is also believed to be involved in a double homicide at a Burnaby sushi restaurant on Sunday.

Mixed feelings of the death.
Would have kept him on life support long enough to get a motive for all this bullshit that happened. Yet happy he's dead so it won't go any further.
I really wish he lived, so that we can find out why he went apeshit (but I think people have already guessed the reasons as to why he did what he did).

It's best this guy is dead rather than see him walking our streets after serving a few years in prison because he would have most likely plead insanity, got a light sentence and we still wouldn't have known the truth behind the shootings.
And I suspect the shooting had to do with him getting laid off and getting evicted.

Angus David Mitchell shot dead by police in Maple Ridge gunfight (http://www.theprovince.com/touch/news/Angus+David+Mitchell+shot+dead+police+Maple+Ridge+ gunfight/6702855/story.html?rel=838332)
BY SUZANNE FOURNIER, JOHN COLEBOURN, CASSIDY OLIVIER AND DAVID CARRIGG, THE PROVINCE MAY 30, 2012 RCMP tried to negotiate but then exchanged fatal gunfire with an armed murder suspect in a quiet Maple Ridge neighbourhood Wednesday.
The suspect, confirmed to be Angus David Mitchell, 26, who was wanted by Burnaby RCMP in relation to a shooting Tuesday, and was a person of interest in a double homicide Sunday, was shot about 12:20 p.m. and was pronounced dead an hour later, after being airlifted to hospital.
Ridge Meadows RCMP Supt. Dave Walsh said “an alert citizen” reported a parked green Ford Aerostar, linked to an earlier police warning about former security guard Mitchell, who appeared to be hunting humans on his own revenge mission.
“He was non-cooperative — he advanced toward police with a rifle and fired on police,” said Walsh, speaking as police swarmed around the shooting site.
He said Ridge Meadows RCMP began “covert surveillance” after 10 a.m. on the 1994 van, then called for backup from the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, police dogs and the RCMP helicopter Air One.
Mitchell was addressed with a police loud-hailer but got out of his van with his weapon, believed to be a Mossberg Maverick gun, advanced toward police, and fired, said Walsh. Police opened fire and Mitchell fell to the ground.
“This is not the outcome we would have liked —it’s a tragedy any time an officer has to use force,” said Walsh.
No officers were injured and a rifle was seized at the scene.
The Vancouver police department will now take over the investigation of the “officer-involved” shooting, said Walsh, declining any further comment.
Witnesses nearby, none of whom actually saw the shooting, reported hearing one distinct shot, followed by three shots and then a rapid volley of shots.
They heard and saw an intense police presence, followed by a medical evacuation by ambulance and then by a chopper landing in a nearby horse field.
Mitchell was seen on a gurney, his arm dangling, with paramedics performing constant chest compressions even as he was loaded into the air ambulance.
“I heard the police helicopter first, because the dishes were rattling,” said Anona Holgate, owner of Beulah Farms, a five-acre horse farm that backs directly onto the site where the shooting took place.
“I thought I heard one shot, then three shots, and then a whole series of shots,” said Holgate. “It’s a bit unsettling, it’s pretty quiet out here usually.”
Craig Marquis, owner of the nearby Maple Ridge Equestrian Centre tack shop, said his girlfriend Jessica Fergusson called him from the shop, saying the area was swarming with police who had blocked off an eight-block stretch of 132nd Avenue between 216th and 224th Streets in Maple Ridge.
“I went right there but all the police would tell us was there was somebody of interest nearby who was armed and dangerous,” said Marquis.
“The shooting happened about 12:20 pm,” Marquis estimated. “I heard one very specific shot, not a shotgun, a single shot. Then I heard pop, pop, pop. It was like a short machine-gun burst, but I know the police have a lot of suppressed weaponry, so it’s not as loud.”
“Then the officer’s radio went nuts: ‘Shots fired, suspect down.’”
Marquis said Fergusson went to attend to her horses in a nearby pasture, but shortly after the shooting an ambulance pulled up, taking out an injured man on a gurney.
“She said they were doing (chest) compressions constantly. Then the medivac chopper came over, dropped the orange flare and landed in our field.”
Marquis said none of the neighbours appear to know why Mitchell was parked in Maple Ridge, but he noted that there is a gravelled stretch of road just north of where Mitchell was shot that is a “seedy area, where drug dealers hang out.
“It’s a busy dog-walking area, too — whoever saw the van knew to report it.”
VPD Major Crime investigators are now at the site of the shooting.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the VPD Homicide unit at (604) 717-2500.
Investigators expect to remain on scene throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
On Wednesday morning, Burnaby RCMP had sent out an urgent warning that Mitchell was wanted by Burnaby RCMP for the attempted murder of a 51-year-old Burnaby man who was shot Tuesday in front of his home in the 4400-block Gilpin Crescent in Burnaby.
The victim, who survived, is in hospital in serious condition. He is Mitchell’s former landlord.
Mitchell is also a person of interest in the May 27 double homicide inside a sushi restaurant on Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby.
A motive for those homicides has not been established.
In a rant posted on his Facebook page, Mitchell directs anger toward Mirko Filipovic, owner of Themis Security Inc., describing him as a “bastard who pushes his weight applying pressure points to people.”
The owner was advised earlier Wednesday by Victoria Police detectives on what security precautions he and his workers should take relating to the manhunt for Mitchell.
Filipovic said Mitchell, 26, worked for his firm as a contractor on three occasions, the latest contract expiring about six weeks ago.
While unable to provide specific details, Filipovic said Mitchell’s parting with the company was acrimonious.
“I’m concerned for the safety of our employees and our families,” Filipovic told The Province Wednesday morning.

@CKNW: This as #IHIT says the rifle found w/ Angus David Mitchell when he was shot in #MapleRidge was used in #Burnaby shooting & double homicide
@CKNW: What isn't clear is if the weapon seized by #Victoria PD from Mitchell is the same weapon he used in killing 2 people & wounding another
VICTORIA (NEWS1130) - Victoria police say they seized a firearm in February from a man who was shot and killed by Mounties in Maple Ridge on Wednesday after a double murder and attempted murder in Burnaby.
Angus David Mitchell, 26, was killed in a shootout along a rural road after police issued a public warning saying he was armed and dangerous.
Mitchell was being sought in connection the shooting deaths of two people in a sushi restaurant and the wounding of his former landlord earlier this week.
Victoria police say they dealt with Mitchell in a Mental Health Act incident in February, which resulted in the seizure of a firearm.
Mitchell later made an application to have the firearm returned to him.
Victoria police say no links have been made between the firearm seizure and the current investigations into the Burnaby shootings.
