: Celebration of Light 2012

LSF22
05-31-2012, 02:48 PM
Welcome to the Honda Celebration of Light website! 2012 is a new year and with it brings a new Title Sponsor, new festivities and new participating countries!

Competing this year at the Honda Celebration of Light:

Vietnam: Saturday July 28th
Brazil: Wednesday August 1st
Italy: Saturday August 4th

There will be lots of fun activities happening each day before the fireworks begin. Head down to Sunset Beach around 2:00PM prior to the fireworks to enjoy live music hosted by SHOREfest, take part in sporting activities put on by Urban Rec, and watch cultural performances as a tribute to the countries participating in the Celebration of Light.

Keep checking back to the website for more information about the bands performing at SHOREfest, ticket updates and more activities to take part in! Don’t forget, this year you have the opportunity to vote for the country you feel put on the best firework display. All you have to do is revisit the website after the countries have performed, click on the “VOTE” button that will be on the home page, and cast your vote!

Once again, a huge thank you to all of our sponsors who fully support this not-for-profit, civic event!

^ It's a bit of a well-known, but unspoken fact that HSBC is a bank that largely caters to a higher end client. Considering the majority of people who attend the fireworks are typical Joes and Janes, maybe they decided it wasn't the best way to promote their brand?

Honda, on the other hand, is losing the Joes and Janes (its bread and butter customers) to rivals like Hyundai.

I went in the end. I would say 5/10. Gf wanted to go in the end so we arrived at around 9:30. Parking wasn't too bad and traffic was bearable in many parts of downtown. It was my first time at Sunset Beach so I couldn't get a good spot.

Nevertheless, at least I got a spot lol

i give it a 8/10

did you guys even bother to watch the fireworks with the music they supplied?

i was dead center in front of the barge and could hear the music preety well with the speakers they supplied

i also believe the music played a big role with the fireworks.. otherwise i wouldof prob gave it a 7/10

the beginning was also preety slow and boring

for those of you wondering i believe the radio station to hear the music is 104.3

i think they even chose a song from madagascar and some one direction shit lol

we stayed at the century plaza on across from the wall center. walked down to sunset beach about 7pm. we brought camping chairs and got a perfect spot at the back of the beach against some drift wood dead center. hung out for the evening with the gf on the beach.

i thought the fireworks were decent. worth seeing but not the best i've seen (ive only been to 3 or 4 now). the fireworks were right perfectly synced with the music tho. and altho it wasnt filled with huge sky filling big bangers, the smaller stuff down low and on the water really worked well with the music. it was a good show, but not a mind blowing impressive one.

You can go on helicopter tours of the fireworks. I personally don't like it, because fireworks are designed to be seen from the ground. It is a unique perspective though.

Will be at Spanish Banks for tomorrow's show. Hopefully the drive home will be quicker and will consist of less idiots than last Saturday.

How is the view from Coal Harbour? Is there a pretty good view of everything or are you blocked by some buildings?

Italy wasnt bad.

Traffic was retarded though, no parking anywhere, basically ran to our car after show ended to get home before the jams started.

I :lawl: at the people stopping on Cornwall Ave in their cars to watch the show.

Parking was non-existent. I parked at Balsam & W. 8th approx. That was the only spot I could find.

Italy had some cool pyrotechnics, but there were a few too many lulls in the performance, I felt.

inescapable tight squeeze of a parallel park :fulloffuck:

Fireworks would not be fireworks without the PITA of a struggle getting home, be it driving or public transit.. when I went on Wednesday I waited for four buses that were all full, then I just said 'fuck it, let's take a cab' :fuckthatshit:

We found a church somewhere up Larch that had someone with a sign saying min.5$ donation. Donated 10$ to some private charity and we were good to go.

Brazil > Italy > Vietnam in my opinion. Brazil had better combos, although Italy had more familiar music and some unique moments :concentrate:

Italy's was by far the most creative. The crowd at English Bay totally loved Italy's.

-definitely agree that Italy had the creativity with their fireworks. -starting off the performance with the red, white, and green for the Italian flag, and adding fireworks to show red hearts in the sky was really good for their team.

-playing David Guetta, Maroon 5, and Coldplay songs along with the fireworks was a good choice too. :)
