RS Noob Hike #1
T4RAWR
06-02-2012, 04:48 PM
There were a few people interested in the outdoors at the Stock and Noobie meet.
Alatar and I figure that a RS Noob Hike would be a good way for everyone to get out and do something non-car related.
This thread is to see if people are interested in going/doing hiking.
So far the plan is to meet up at buntzen lake in port moody and do the buntzen lake loop. The hike is pretty tame and a good segway into some of the more challenging hikes that would come down the road (thinking of sandero diez vistas, seymour mountain, lindsay lake loop, eagle bluffs, etc etc).
The hike is about 9km.
The basic requirements for the hike would be decent shoes (hikers or running shoes would be fine), a lunch, water and a pack to carry everything in.
I'll be carrying extra things like first aid kits, etc so you guys and gals dont have to worry but if theres something else you wanna bring with you go for it.
We'll be stopping at the north beach to have eat lunch, sit around and relax for a bit and take a break before making the trip back.
The day of the hike is tentatively set for the 16th (saturday) of this month. Weather network says it should be sunny so hopefully it stays that way.
Post if you're interested in going hiking. :fullofwin:

You guys should totally do it.
RS meet ups don't always have to be about cars. It's about connecting with others, rs is just the medium :D

We'll give this another day or so, but if there continues to be a lack of interest, we'll be scrapping plans for this hike.

Forecast for Saturday is calling for rain, at this point. Looks like 20-30mm.
T4RAWR is on the fence if there's rain, but I'll still be in for a hike. Other option is we bump this to Sunday when the weather's a little more forgiving.
We'll check in on the forecast tomorrow to see what things are like on Saturday.
If anyone else is having second thoughts about this, speak up now so that we won't expect you.

I'm going to monitor the forecast and post/PM the attendees based on the conclusion.
Port Moody forecast is calling for 5-15mm of rain, not "steady" rain but periods of rain.
Weather in Port Moody - AccuWeather Forecast for British Columbia Canada (http://www.accuweather.com/en/ca/port-moody/v3h/daily-weather-forecast/52964?day=2) says 13mm for the day.

ill still show up unless everyone bails.
5-15mm isnt too bad when you have a decent tree canopy for cover.

Under 20mm of rain, WOOOOO! T4RAWR and I will be there if anyone else decides they still know where their nuts are. ;)
bring a hat and waterproof light jacket, spare socks..
rain hikes can be fun at times.
Have a good time guys, wish I saw this earlier.

I know where my nuts are! In my warm, comfy bed attached to a various collection of appendages that will hold my cup of coffee, looking at miserable rain, where it should be: on the other side of glass.
But have fun!

So, the hike ended up being just T4RAWR and myself. Took a few pictures, but it was fairly steady/moderate rain for most of the hike. Quite a few people on the trail otherwise, though. All in all, a good outing. Warm, but wet. No wet feet, just some damp jackets/pants at least!
Took a couple of pictures to prove that we were there. :p
Proper footware/jackets. Goretex boots & rain shells and rain covers for our packs and we were good to go.

We took the road back since there was some flooding at the north end of the lake. This was about the only time the rain really let up.
