Scrap metal junkyards. I think i recall the junkyard pepople tried to sell me back my stolen aluminum gate for $4 per pound. Gate is about 10lbs so $40. Those manhole covers are quite heavy, large profit at city's expense.

Couldn't you sue the city for damages if you hit a uncovered manhole? And if you know the location, call the city's hotline and report the location so they can have crews out there with replacements.

Yes, they are heavy, but they are just iron which has the lowest scrap metal value. I don't even bother with taking things in that are iron...not worth the effort.

Now the extra 500 I made selling the old copper pipes from bathroom renos I did was totally worth it-although I think that's where I picked up the nail in my tire.

Now I like to consider myself as a connoisseur of sorts for off topic posts, but this one leaves me scratching my head and derriere as to why you thought it was appropriate to post this here.

1) It's an old video, not really funny anymore and very played out.
2) It's about a rapist, last I checked rapists don't steal manhole covers to have sex with the drain holes forcibly.
3) Why abuse the multimedia abilities of this forum to link to such old, boring garbage.
4) How does one go from stealing pot hole covers to raping people? I guess you could make the argument that rape and stealing man hole covers is both forcibly uncovering holes for entry, however I digress.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The City of Vancouver says your safety is being put at risk by some really bizarre thefts.

Metal storm drain grates that cover catch basins in the city are being stolen; 47 have been swiped since Monday. Murray Steer manages the city's sewers and tells us most are being taken from laneways or back alleys.

"This has been hit and miss across the board. I can say that it's been predominantly south of 41st [Avenue], basically across the whole city. But there seems to be no rhyme or reason for the locations," he explains.

He believes whoever's doing it is trying to get scrap metal money, but points out the grates are essentially worthless.

Steer adds the open holes left behind can put you in danger; they're wide enough to have a small person or animal fall through and are up to six feet deep. "Once we get a call, we've been responding as soon as possible to cover it."

The police are also involved. If you see a cover missing, you can call the city's 3-1-1 hotline.
