If you can spare a minute too sign, please do. The same people that stopped the skytrain station and Walmart from going in down in Kits are also behind stopping the development of new condos here.

Just a question, but does anyone really bowl anymore?
Because I'm going to tell you, those lanes are worth far more as a 1 bed, than as a place for seniors to bowl.
Have the owners of the alley weighed in?

all the bowling alleys I've driven by seem to be rather active so I imagine lots of ppl still bowl
they should build apartments on top of the alley

Varsity ridge is a terrible place to bowl anyways and so many businesses that open at the ridge complex have closed down except for mcdonald's and the crappy chinese food place for white people.

You mention that the same people behind stopping skytrain and walmart from being developed/opened are behind this petition. It would appear that they do not care for saving bowling but are only concerned about their property values. There is demand for affordable housing in the area, let them develop and stop whining.

Vancouver has succeeded in leveling, well, pretty much everything in the name of condos and now, people are ready to stop because of a bowling alley?

I would support this if it wasn't associated with the anti-Skytrain crowd.

Anyone know if the new condos are affordable housing or just regular condo's?
I'm not from the area, so I have not voted!

We don't need more people in Vancouver, we need more jobs.

+ 1
not just that, but also I think there will still be commercial retail shopping on the bottom floors like for most developments. Chances are mcdonalds will still be there once it's completed (similar to the mcdonalds on main street). This helps the city out by increasing their tax base as well. The annual property tax from the 50 or so condos plus the retail units outweighs the bowling alley.

Though I'm not familiar with the condo project, I doubt it'll be affordable, being centralized in the Arbutus area.

OP is worried on his $3 million+ market value house has to be neighbor to some less than $1 million condo...
Good try but I don't see any reason to keep that bowling place.

even whole foods didn't last over there, don't know why varsity ridge continues to stay.
let the developers do what they want with their land. if you don't like them developing on it, buy it and do what you want.
same goes with the native indians below arthur laing bridge and the mega mall being proposed by the ferry terminal.

I'm going to verbally fail you on that one, has the OP told you what his situation really is? Do you even know?
Because if you don't, and you still find the nerve to bitch about the 3 million dollar house that he might not have, you're just another judge a book by it's cover joke.

I dont live in that area, thats not why im trying to get a few signatures. Regardless of how it goes i will have at least tried. I grew up around that bowling alley, i worked there during multiple summers and met tons of awesome people. Working there i was amazed at how many people it brought together regardless of age. Its something thats affordable to do to kill some time, which is getting harder and harder to find.

Why verbally fail when you can hit the false button? :failed: Funny how somebody like you is so serious on the internet.

Move forward man! I understand you have some good memory there but that is not enough to get people to support you. The land value is worth more than your memory.
Varsity Ridge Bowling = don't care.
Grandview Bowling Lanes = I give a damn. East End Rules!!!!
Grandview Lanes Bowling Centre in Vancouver, BC (http://www.grandviewbowling.com/)
I lived a block away from the Ridge for 15 years. I went bowling there maaaaybe 3 times in my life. Went to the Ridge Theatre a handful more times. Honestly, what do people expect the petition to do? The owners of the bowling alley probably appreciate the support, but appreciation doesn't pay the bills.
