So I'm using the Telus Optik TV + internet bundle and they gave me the Actiontec V1000H modem/router combo. I
I'm looking to purchase a dual band router to improve my home network.
Wondering if anyone has successfully disabled the router features or created a bridge with Actiontec modem/router. I called up Telus and the rep told me to disable the wireless settings from the router GUI and plug in the other router in the WAN port.
However upon further research on Google many have reported that it doesn't work or creates NAT issues and whatnot.

what i did was put in my router into the DMZ zone on the actiontec and just use the router as the main one for everything and nothing gets plugged into the actiontec except for the router.
you wont be able to on the actiontec. imho like the suggestion they gave you lan on actiontec to the wan on your own router works fine.. *disable wifi on the actiontec* that is what I do
I have been running it like that for over a year, super fast on 25mb

Or you can plug a cable from LAN port to LAN port and disable DHCP on your own router.

I'm not on Optik, but I am with Telus. I returned the actiontec, and they brought me a SpeedTouch switch. It makes everything much simpler.

The thing with Optik is the TV cable (I have no idea what its called) needs to be hooked onto their modem as well. So im not sure if the Speedtouch has that same sorta input.
I'll be giving the above suggestions in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the input guys

Telus set me up with a separate modem and wifi router. So, all I had to do was remove their D-Link (DVA-G3810), and put my own wifi router in it's place.
If you need to keep the V1000 to get internet, then your best bet, as a previous poster mentioned, is to disable DHCP on your new router and connect them via the LAN ports. Let the V1000 handle the DHCP duties on your network.

with optik tv you need to use their crappy router/modem combo.
